I've only played Shadows of Amn and loved the hell out of it. I had sooo much fun making the most bad assed party ever. Most of the gamers you'll find here are heavy rpgers though I doubt anyone could be truely loyal to BG2 since KOTOR is so similiar. I want to play throne of Bhaal sometime but I dont have a computer that's good enough.

I have the entire set. I played Shadows of Amn first, and loved it, so I got Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast(the expansion), but had difficulty playing them. If I had played Baldur's Gate first, it would likely have been fine, but trying to go back after Shadows of Amn is difficult. For example, there are no points on your map, so you just have to wander randomlly around town to find what you want. I was injured, and looking for a temple. I saw a big building, and went inside. Turned out it was just some guys house, and the next thing I know he had killed my weaknd party for tresspassing. On top of that, you have no health, no magic and crappy items. My whole party got wiped out by a bear fairly early on. As such, I haven't gotten very far in it.

Throne of Bhaal is excellent. By now, you're so powerful that you get attacked by an entire army and come off the better. You are wiping out dragons and pit fiends left right and centre, but the final battle is still really hard. Very well done.

And sometimes it's just fun to be evil. My chaotic evil half-orc barbarian has killed Keldorn, Anomen, Nalia, Mazzy, Aeiry, Valygar, Cernd, Yoshimo and Haer Dalis. I left Jan in jail, and Minsc and Jaheria abandoned him for being evil before I could kill them off.

And I have to say, when I saw both your name and avatar Imoen NoDolan I had a feeling you liked this game.

Bought Baldur's gate, should have been revising, flunked a bunch of exams. The cursed game had that 'just another hour until I level up' quantity to it I hadn't seen since I played the SSI gold box games. BG has a special place in my heart because it captured the pen and paper RPG so well. You never got too powerful, the storyline was excellent, a little rough around the edges maybe and very geeky, but so good I had to break up with my girlfriend until i completed it.

Baldur's gate 2 on the other hand was a mess, Every hostile joe bloggs on the street had 50+ hitpoints, even the goblins took several cracks from a longsword before they died, magic resistance was common and no longer a disadvantage, and you're mage spent half the battle removing protections before he could even cast anything (which would have been ok, if the enemy mages didn't have tons of hitpoints, whilst you only had about 50.)
The graphic design had been overdone. Anyone remember what a key looked like? or a staff? Did anyone equip the helm of balduran when it looked like a furry skidlid helmet with horns attached?
Plot got pretty out of hand, I know we're dealing with a son of a god here, but the power of your party and the enemies just ended up being stupid.
High level games tend to go this way and the programmers pandered to it a bit; want to own a castle? go ahead. +5 holy avenger sword? Got 3 in the back room guv. Shag the moaning elf b*tch who keep interupting you whilst you're trying to go to the graveyard? knock yourself out.

I do own the expansion disk but it's still in it's shrink wrap.

I'm the other end of the scale. I love being overpowered, and disliked the first game when you died whenever you tried to do anything. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. I prefer to play a mighty demonslayer rather then a green adventurer whos scared of a few lowly Kobolds.

Yeah, but do level ups really make a difference when all you gain is +1 thaco and 3 hitpoints? The start of BG was tough, but so was the PNP rpg. BG2 just couldn't offer the same sense of advancement as BG when you first got a magic weapon or learnt fireball.

Considering that BG ended showing you hundreds of statues of Bhaals children, they could have given you the role of another one, who can meet up with your old character later on in the game.

I never got that far in the first one. As I mentioned above, I was spoiled by playing the second game first, and was used to having a character who could do something other then die. If I'd played BG first, it would have been fine, but as it stands, I just can't do it.
