Im an athiest and i dont believe in any gods or anything, but nevertheless, i respect religion. but sometimes i think people take it too far, i mean devoting your entire lives to a religios figure is a bit much isnt it? And people who never take credit for what they do "dont thank me, it was God that made it all possible" THATS JUST PLAIN SAD!!!
And where i live (everyone is a katholic) if you dont believ in God, ur a satinist! thats just stupid, religion seems to cause more evil then it prevents...

This is probably covered in the "Society" thread though I admit to staying clear of that one.

The thing is that if you do truly beleive in a religion doesn't it necessitate that you devote your entire life to it in some respect? Religion, by its very nature, doesn't really lend itself to hobbyists.

True, however, a lot of those people aren't actually following their religion correctly. I don't think many religions state that you should go to church on Sunday they forget about it for the rest of the week. If that's the way you live your life then are you really that religious?

Keep in mind Jehova's Witnesses aren't supposed to attend/throw parties.

The UU church near my hometown seems like *I haven't attended, this is based on what several UU friends of mine have talked about in regards to their religous community* it claims to be a general life counceling group, but then spends a disporportionate ammount of time discussing sexuality, and that at conventions, people play games like getting in sleeping bags with other attendees in a spin-the-bottle sort of way.

Can either of you help me understand what's going on, here?

to further my point, zbout how religion is messed up in gozo, today at school i was forced to attend mass even though i told the headmaster of my atheism!

I went to a catholic high school, and going to mass was a condition of enrolment. There were a few mulim students who had to sit through it, and so did everybody else.

yeah but the stupid thing is that in malta and gozo, EVerything is katholic, ALL schools and practically everything (and everyone) else! the religion is practicall forced onto you!
