Don't you hate wire hangers? You know, when they get all tangled up together?

I'm curious of which type of coat hangers people prefer. here are several kinds.

The flat plastic kind are good for travelling. The kind with the cardboard dowel are my favorites for all around use. Any thoughts?

Third from the bottom. I hate the complex ones with grips and all that. Your clothes just gets caught up in them when you try to remove them.

Have you been watching Mommie Dearest? Reminds me of the scene where Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford freaks out at the sight of the wire ones in her daughter's closet. No wire hangers!

Personally I don't really have a preference, although the ones with the clips I find are good for hanging skirts. I usually don't hang my pants up, mainly I just fold them and put them in my dresser. Most of my shirts are on hangers though.

The last one's good for hanging up my Coat and dress shirts, but I prefer the plastic rounded ones for stuff like pants. I'd say wire hangers, but they bend up too easily.

I like the ones that swivel, 'cause then I can pretend I was coordinated and had forsight when I put my clothes ON thehangers, rather than having a messy closet. I rarely use my closet anyway, though.

Rounded plastic all the way. They allow for stuff that belongs on your chest (shirts, jackets, T-shirts I can't be arsed to iron), and you can hang well folded trousers on the bottom bit.

Rounded plastic, all the way. The ones with the grips that you get for pants are crap. I hate working those stupid grips. The sleek wooden ones are too slippery and clothes just fall off of them too easily.

Of course, this is all irrelevant as I haven't put a piece of my clothing on a hanger in several years.

Those rounded plastic are great, however not for trousers. I found out that no matter how you try to balance the trousers, they always slid to one side and after some time you get lovely tiny crinkles halfway up the tigh and calf. And if your trousers do not have those little hoops in the waistband, the only other option is to hang them on those hangers with clips. I actually find them quite useful.

That is why I figured the styrofoam or paper dovel is for - to prevent trousers from sliding to one side on the hanger.

I forgot about those. Not an intentional omission, the "full bodied" ones are good for suits. When the wood pants rod is good and snug against the metal rod.

Sometimes the cardboard dowel has some lightly applied, "sticky" stuff on it to keep trousers from sliding.

the wire hangers from cleaners that have paper wrappers: How long am I obliged to keep the adwrap? 5 years? more? Until it falls off?

My grandmother taught me early on to hang all clothes "one direction" so in case of a fire you can make a quick grab. If I had a fire, I don't know what I'd grab. I suppose I ought to prioritize a list. I'm pretty OCD about making sure stuff's turned off, but you can't be too sure.

I prefer the wooden kind. Since they're thicker, they are more supportive for the various sweaters and pants I hang. The plastic kind is a close second -- the wire ones poke points into the corners of my shirts and sag and bend under the weight of pants. Not to say I don't use them, though -- free hangers is free hangers.

And Chefelf is right about not hanging up his clothes, ever. It disorients him! I hung some of his pants up in the hall closet so they would be off the floor, and then got a series of panic stricken emails at work with subject lines like, "PANTS!" and "WHERE ARE MY PANTS?" and "I HAVE TO GO TO WORK, WHERE ARE MY PANTS?"

There's nothing worse than having someone else suddenly start picking up and moving your stuff. My mom used to do that all the time and I could never find anything.

Quite right. I'll only be away from home for four months, and I'll bet my mum will tidy my room about fourteen times...

I have to say my sympathies are with your mum! However, in my defense, I did tell Chefelf that I was hanging up his pants. Here is a transcript:

Jen: Sweetheart, darling love, cookie pie, I am hanging up your pants for you in this closet so that they will be off the floor and ready for work."

Chefelf: Ummmmhmmmmmmm (while staring at computer.)

Jen: Did you hear me, angelcake? I have out your pants in the closet. Your pants are now hanging up, in the hall closet. So for future reference, cherub, your pants are now easily accesible and hanging up in our closet. Okay, dearest one?

Chefelf: (Looks away from the computer for almost enough time to be detectable by the human eye): Okay, okay, yes, I heard you! (Shakes head, while looking at the computer).

(This is how I remember it, anyway! But I DID tell him I was hanging them up.)
