Do any of you Return of the Jedi defenders still want to argue that Luke and Leia were always intended to be siblings?

huh.gif Lucas is even more of a sick bastard than I thought. This guy had no clue he'd make Leia and Luke siblings by ROTJ. And if he did, the small amout of respect I have for him goes out the window

Alright. now I'm CERTAIN Lucas got the idea they were siblings from that post ESB, reader's letter/theory/suggestion from the mailbag column, Starlog magazine, Summer of '80. (Darn I wish I could locate that.)

ps, yeah, that was HOT. thanks Chefelf! mellow.gif

I remember the novelisation of original ST later dubbed as ANH - It went something like that - "Instead, Luke was thinking about Leia".

So without ROTJ - acceptable. With ROTJ - disgusting.

We would not be talking about this right now if Lucas had just come out and told the truth. That he infact made up the OT as he went along.

The lie was originally spawned because he thought it would help him market ANH (SW for some here).

Star Wars is the name of the movie. It's what came on the video box for over twenty years. Calling it "A New Hope" is kind of like calling Raiders of the Lost Ark "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark"... although not quite as bad as the latter makes no sense at all. Indiana Jones was one of those rascally raiders himself. I also hate the fact that at a glance, the new DVD for it could be mistaken for one of its terrible sequel (actually a prequel).

But I digress. You are right, Jordan. Lucas should have admitted he was making it up as he went along. Many writers make things up as they go, myself included. Lucas seems to be the only one that has an inferiority complex about admitting it.

Terry Pratchett is one of the best fantasy authors I know of, yet many of his characters have changed vastly from their original incarnations - 'evolved' might be a better word. And he freely admits that this is the case, rather than pretending he had some sort of 'grand design' for them all along. I don't understand why Lucas has such a complex about this either.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Because "Meesa George Lucas," Helena. wink.gif (but you knew that.)

I saw Marcia Lucas listed as a film editor the other night when watching some of Star Wars. Her name was like tenth or so. (Cushing was around fourth or fifth.) I'm sure a google search could clear up her influence coming to a halt.

anyway, I recall discussing SW a LOT with an older friend, highly creative and a certified genius. When ESB came out we got the album, reviewed the notes and started rolling eyes immediately. The "Skywalker theme" becomes "the Force theme?" (wtf?!)

First response to a ready-made antiquity.

Lucas screwed the pooch but he's sticking with his story.

From working at the Ranch and having many ties to the original production, I guarantee you this was not the plan. I even have a behind the scenes documentary from the ESB era where Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher were debating who Leia would end up with, Han or Luke. Hamil said something to the effect that if Leia chose Han she would be an idiot. They were all excited about the potentila of the series after Empire, and even compared its future to that of like James Bond. Always new adventures coming up with new characters and plots. Even they didn't know where the franchise was going. Lucas never even planned on a 3 story arc. After establishing the "Blockbuster" movie, he only wanted to repeat that success with each fil, regardless of the fallout.

Nice man in person, though.

That's why in my version of the trilogy, Leia and Luke end up together. I find this picture very pleasing, actually.

Way to go, Chefelf!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets infuriated by GL's insisting that he knew it all along.
