Guilty pleasures? Tom Waits and Bruce Springsteen.

I'm not old enough for that to be ok.

What the hell does that even mean? Surely you don't believe what you say.

yeah... you should feel guilt for any day that passes without you listening to TOM WAITS...

that man is a ledgend....

and he was the best renfield of all time (Bram Stokers Dracula 1990).
perfectly nutricious actually

Have you ever seen one of those biography's on Burroghs? There's this one where he starts singing this mexican song. The only line i remember him singing is "Adios muCHA-cho-o-o-o-o-os" and i often find myself singing it once in a while. It's fabulous.
He either wanted the camera's off him, or he was just too damn comfortable. i think it's the latter since he seemed accomodating enough for most of it.
It also contains one of my favorite movie lines ever: he's showing the guy his weapons and he pulls out this switchblade and talks about how fast it ... umm... switches. He's talking about the usefulness of it when someone he doesn't like confronts him: "i don't have to listen to what YOU want to say" he says while making a lazy swipe indicating a throat-slashing. It's funny.

I've never seen any of his bios, but I'd sure love to. He had a bit part in this film called "Twister" (not the one with Helen Hunt) in the 80s. It starred Crispin Glover and Harry Dean Stanton and was about an eccentric family in the mid-west. Burroughs' brief dialogue went something like this:

"Jim...Jim hated horses. He went around shooting horses for a while. Then one day he ate the insides of a clock and then he dieeeeeeeeeeed."

old bill (lee) burroghs also did a great track with MINISTRY (yes, that's the third time this week i've brought them up) called quick fix

it's a spoken word thing over music and sound tampering...

the lyrics are great...

in fact...

here they are....
QUICK FIX
(W.S.Burroughs w/MINSTRY)

Put it country simple,
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want,
like the whole planet.
And maybe these folks would like a few changes made,
Like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere,
and room for their way of life.
We've seen this happen before,
right in these United States.
Your way of life destroyed the Indian's way of life,
The Indian Reservation is extinction.
But I offer this distinction
I'm with the invaders,
no use trying to hide that.
And at the same time I disagree
with some of the things they are doing.
Oh, we're not united any more than you are.
Oh, we're not united any more than you are.

Conservative faction is set on nuclear war
as a solution to the Indian personality.

Others disagree

I don't claim my motives are 100% humane,
but I do say if we can't think up anything quieter,
and tidier, than that, we aren't all that much
better than you new earth aches.

There is no place else to go,
The theater is closed.

There is no place else to go,
The theater is closed.

Cut word lines, cut music lines,
smash the control images,
smash the control machine.

cool huh, but you have to hear HIM say it...

i've got a "smash the control images, smash the control machine" T-Shirt...

I have a few more guilty pleasures, and i do in fact feel guilty about these:

a) I like the Grateful Dead. And as if that weren't bad enough, Dark Star is one of my top 3 favorite songs by them. I only have a few of their albums, though, and plan on maybe getting one more.

cool.gif virtuoso guitarists. Satriani, Vai, to a lesser extent Malmsteen (ONLY a couple songs) and stuff like that.

QUOTE (Slade @ Nov 1 2004, 11:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hecc... my bad, I sometimes lump stuff together that I shouldn't.

I can't stand Sum 41 or Blink 182 AT ALL. Like despise them with every once of my bitter soul can't stand them.

I know this is an old post, and old thread but I felt the need to do so.

Up until now, I only had fair knowledge of Blink 182 just by hearing some of their cheesy songs on the radio.

Well, I work in an office setting, and like most others who do, I find myself with some free time every now and then. It appears that a co-worker who just so happens to use the same computer that I do (on a different shift) decided to download lots of MP3 audio and MPEG video files onto our computer via USB link.

So....I found myself quite bored one afternoon on a slow business day, and decided to look into and see what these files were. There were many, many files. Lots of different bands here: Sum 41,.All-American Rejects,..Rammstein,..Smashing Pumpkins,..and lo and behold there was Blink 182.

I never saw any of their videos up until that day,..so I decided to watch a few of them. It was awful. Wait a minute, awful is too kind of a word,..the words I want to express are quite explicit, so I shall refrain from posting them here, but you get the idea.

Who is this band? They are very ego-ed out bunch of punk kids. They look like snobbish brats. But the worst thing is,..they have no utter sense of sincerity for performing music. If artists such as Eric Clapton and The Righteous Brothers are passionate and dedicated about their musical work and put much time and devotion into churning out masterpieces,..then Blink 182 would be the total opposite of this. They are trash.

I was happy when I did some research and learned that this band is currently broken up,..as it seems they are on a hiatus,..they can stay that way for all I care.

As I watching these videos,..I saw I think,.3 of them,..I watched with horror at: all the small things,...some other video that has the trio running around town naked,..and another video that looks like it was filmed on the steps of an abandoned courthouse during a sandstorm.

Lets start with the "all the small things" video. STUPID,..DUMB,...IDIOTIC. Here we have the lead singer,.who looks like Jim Carrey's character in "Dumb and Dumber"..kissing an outdoor metal telescope,..he is also dressed from head to toe in white,..and is seen dancing, as if he is trying to make a parody of some teeny bopper boy band,..such as the backstreet boys or 98 degrees. He is shown several times sporting gaps in his teeth...oh my gawd,..dude you are soooo cool,...NOT.

Then,.there was this other video,.I think it was called "whats my age again?"..well,..apparently,.none of these chimps are over the age of about 4 years old,..as they are seen running around town doing stupid antics all over town. And their genitalia is obviously blurred during the whole video (thank god,..I dont think Id want to see how small it is anyways)...ha ha,..in fact,.during this video,.there was actually a young girl hold a magnifying glass at them as they are running towards her,..I wonder if thats the point they are trying to make?, that they arent very well endowed??...hmmmm......but anyways,..back to this video,..like I said,..cheesy antics all thru town as the trio runs naked....THEN,...there it is,..this is how they decide to end the video,..the camera isnt blurred anymore..and we see Larry, Moe and Curly run off into the distance and see their bare behinds,...gross!!,...its like after watching the 5 minutes of this crap,..the band is saying "kiss our a$$,,,FU**ERS!!!!"......like i said,...they have no utter sense of wanting to even try to come up with any true music....maybe this is why this band is,..disbanded.

I hate the way a lot of these pop punk bands copy off one another. There is this stupid style of playing a guitar that just gets on my last nerve. The lead guitarist for Blink 182 flaunts this style until it is overdead,..it is hideous. If you dont know,.I will explain this to you. For starters,.a guitar is meant to be played at waist level...you dont hang the guitar down to your knees!!!...and the way their hand strokes the guitar,..its with this stupid constant motion...like they are trying to start a lawnmower or something,..arm goes down to knees where guitar is,..and then elbow bends and arm returns back to chest position,...and then arm goes back down to knees where guitar is,.and then back up to chest position....(this process repeats about 1,057 times during any one of their given videos). As they play the guitar this way,..they are jumping and bouncing up and down in about a 1 foot square area..looking like the Energizer Bunny on crack.

And its not just Blink 182,...but a lot of these type of bands..(such as Good Charlotte for prime example),..seem to have this annoying way of singing,..like a cross between a California surfer and a drunken Irish man...you know that stupid voice Im talking about,..its so annoying. I like Green Day to a certain extent,.but I dont understand why the lead singer has to sing like that just to put out some good songs. But Green Day tried to act like thats the way their lead singer REALLY DOES sound,.when they came out with that one effort at trying to put out a sincere song amid all their other kiddish pop tunes,..that song that goes "I hope you have the tiiiiime of your liiiife". (Is that an awful attempt at a British accent?)

Who developed this style of music? I will shoot down any who say this is an evolution of early 1980's pop...because its not,..The Ramones sound nothing like this. Its almost like the music industry got bored and is simply looking for the next big thing....the industry is experimenting with different styles and trying to concoct something fabulous,.but came out with this trash instead. I know that Hair Metal and Glam Rock of the late 1980's is dead by todays standards, but I dont think this crap is its replacement either.

GOD!!...I hate this style of singing,..sing normal,.retards....thats not your natural voice and we dont want to hear it either,..music should come from the soul,.and the best music usually does.

Peter Brady was by far the ugliest Brady kid on the "Brady Bunch". I mean, they were all pretty ugly, and the fact that the Brady dad wanted to always take the boys out on overnight camping trips just a tad bit too often, gave me the creeps.

I like the first half of the song 'Welcome to the Black Parade' by...My Chemical Romance.

I'm so sorry guys!

And most of music tastes are very niche, not many people really like them.

But I don't feel guilty about it.

(Except I do about the MCR song)
