a sad little WET girl...

but going back to the lanslide thing...

the problem is that Australians are big bunch of buck borrowing boneheads who are in so much debt... that they voted for the government that promised to reduce interest rates... and i have to admit will probably come through for us on that one... and they promissed to FURTHER reduce tax for rich people... which everyone but me seems happy with...

i think i have figured out the fundimantal flaw in our fine nations approach to democracy (outside of the self contradicting notion of compulsary voting) and that is that, in fact, a majority of our population is an uneclectic, ill-informed, uncultured congregation of absolute C*NTS!!!!

thank yoou and goodnight...

This makes me want to break down and cry. Maybe I'll just wait it out in Korea and come back when our population knows how to vote intelligently.

The problem with Democracy is that one must assume that the people voting possess intelligence. If you ask me, that is far too idealistic, and why the only functional form of government is the dictatorship. That or druidic tree worship. We should unquestioningly trust all of our decisions, from how we live our lives, to how we think, to what we wear, in the hands of a single man or woman. Preferably a two year old black female. Or a four hundred year old poplar, ripe with wisdom.

You kind of ruin all intelligent discussion by ending a letter with "fuck off". And since when have Matt and Trey's characters ever been taken very seriously?

Democracy doesn't assume to be run by intelligent voters. It is the will of the people, regardless of whether that will is intelligent, informed, justified, or even based on some sort of "good/evil" scale.

It is ideal however that the voters do reach an educated decision.

And remember Slade, America is not a Democracy but a Democratic Republic.

Democracy = The people vote
Republic = Representatives of the people vote
Democratic Republic = The people vote on the representatives to vote

Dictatorships are far too prone to instability from the people. Once a dictator who is unpopular or makes horrible decisions incurs the wrath of his people there are generally actions taken. And since you can't decide who your leader is or how long he will be leader, violence is usually the answer.

And the "fuck off" part just proves Penn's an immature ass.

So, uh, if people have to vote in Australia, what's so stop them from voting randomly, or choosing the first option on every question?

That's why John Howard won! He was the first option!

It really bothers me that voting logically can be made compulsory given how few people vote. I just wonder what length politicians would have to go to in the US to get the entire population to vote freely. I mean would a candidate have to promise them punch and pie if elected or something? Even that I doubt would help.

Sadly, we can't attribute Howards win to him being the first option. The voting list order is determined randomly to try and even out donkey voters, and in my electorate at least, the ALP(current opposition)candidate was top. If you don't want to vote, you technically don't have to. As its a silent vote, noboy can look at you when you write, so you can tick your name off, walk into the polling booth, then just drop blank sheets into the box. Or, as our uni newspaper suggested, draw a picture of a penis.

Edit: typo

Reiner - we live in an oligarchy too! And that post was obviously very sarcastic. Except for the druidic tree worship part.*

*That was sarcastic too.

I have often felt that an enlightened aristocracy wouldbe thebest form of government, but that's sort of cheating. An enlightened democracywouldwork, I'd take an enlightened monarchy or whatever else. Eh...OK, fine. The top 5% of the population, based upon a battery of tests measuring logic, historical knowledge, scientific and linguistics skills, and statecraft will be made into a controlling aristocracy. Our will is law.

That wasn't so bad. He was asking the duo to encourage people to know more, rather than just vote like idiots, or decide not to vote since knowing more is so hard. The "fuck you" was rhetorical, not heart-felt.

Some fairly bad writing, however.

I hate these actors who try be all political. Same with Musicians. Dave Mattews and Michael STipe were once cool in my books.

Some fairly bad writing, however.

50 bucks and my left nut says Penn paid some one to write that. If he wrote the letter then it would've been the target for late night stand ups.
