Penn writes angry letter to South Park duo
12/10/2004 - 11:35:07

Sean Penn is furious with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone for ridiculing his stance against the war in Iraq in their latest film.

The Oscar-winning actor, 44, opposes the Iraq war, and he is annoyed with the movie Team America: World Police, which he claims portrays his pacifist views as stupid.

Penn has written to the pair about his complaints, ending the angry letter with "f*** off".

The controversial movie is already in trouble for showing a simulated sex scene featuring puppets.

I admit that I haven't seen this movie yet, however, being familiar with Parker and Stone's work in the past could it be possible that they were just being sarcastic? Isn't that just what they do? I thought Sean Penn was a little brighter than that. I guess he isn't if he gets upset about a sarcastic movie about America and ends an editorial-type letter with the words: "Fuck off."

I'll admit I haven't read this post...but this is news?

It's sort of like, "HEADLINE--Monkeys throw poop! ...people were shocked today by this glaring lack of tact on behalf of lower simian life..."

It's like the buddhist parable of the man beating the mule for being lazy, & the wiseguy says, "the mule will never learn your language; better to learn the language of the mule." Because then you can talk to it in Kobold.

Silly Lefty. Sean Penn writes WAY more angry letters than monkeys throw poop. And there's only one Sean Penn.

As far as I can tell, Sean Penn is most irritated with the South Park guys for saying, "Hey, if you don't know who to vote for, don't vote. There's no shame in not voting." And, while I suppose if you genuinely don't know who you would want to elect, you shouldn't just pick someone at random. However, especially with the way things have been going, I think Sean Penn is right, no matter how self-righteous his letter was: if you don't know who to vote for, you should look into it and make a choice, not just say, "Oh, well! There's no way of finding out who I want to vote for!"

Yeah. Unfortunately Sean Penn is a self-rigtheous ass and Parker and Stone are just a little too cynical. Given a few days worth of watching the news, debates and reading up online you could come to an educated decision about who you should vote for. However, the people who are so far removed as to be undecided at this point probably won't do that work.

I don't get the undecided voter. How can you not know? You should -- at the very least -- be able to recall the past four years in this country. If you are conscious of anything that has transpired can't you even make the incredibly basic decision of whether you think the current president should be re-elected or not?

If you like it, vote for the president. If you don't, vote for the other guy.

I don't agree with saying that you shouldn't vote, but I think Parker and Stone's sarcasm and cynicism don't translate all that well to print.

We just had an election here on Saturday. On Friday night, one of my friends mentioned that he didn't know who to vote for(as it's compulsory in Australia)as he hadn't bothered about the election and had been focusing on his uni work as of late. But even so, I don't see how he couldn't of heard anything about the major parties without locking himself in a box for the last few months.

Sime, could you please tell me that John Howard didn't get back in? Please tell me that this was an elaborate hoax by the media to irritate the living shit out of an innocent Australian living abroad.

If the majority of adult Australians voted for that man then they are abusing the concept of a democracy. Democracies only work if people make intelligent decisions. If they vote for John Howard multiple times in a row, then I'm afraid I will have to annex my home country of Australia and make all the decisions myself.

So please tell me that that cretan is not back in office... please....

[sarcasm]Wait a second. You aussies actually get to have multiple parties? That's not democracy you beer swilling snake wranglers!!! You get confused too easily by having parties that exhibit any important differences. You get confused and you don't know who to vote for. Then democracy goes down the drain because of your stupid right to choose! And who would let the socialist party run for officee anyhow why I bet they're a bunch of socialists!!![/sarcasm]

This makes me want to break down and cry. Maybe I'll just wait it out in Korea and come back when our population knows how to vote intelligently.

By the way, does Sean Penn ever not finish a letter with the words "fuck off"? And Movie Goer, my condolences, we have the same problem here only it's no surprise. But at least we can be very certain that England is not populated entirely by idiots since Blair is already on a slow boat to China just about.

Well, as far as I can tell, education and medicare are now scrapped, or as good as. It's a dark time for our nation. I didn't want to state my political views, but seeing as you share them, I'm quite happy to say that I put the co-alition down last on my vote form. I just can't understand how the liberals not only won with their terrible policies, but won by such a landslide. Makes me feel sick being stuck in a country with people who would vote for such terrible policies.
