I'm finally getting off my ass and applying myself to learning piano stuff. I've got 2/5 of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata learned in about a week, gonna go learn some contemporary songs to sing along with (like later Beatles stuff), then more classical and some ragtime.

If you're learning to play piano, don't underestimate having to learn scales. When you start crossing your fingers on your own without thinking about it it gets a lot smoother.

Oh, I also do piano covers of old video game music. I play by ear from cranking my TV volume with my NES on to learn them. Currently, I have part of a medly going from the Zelda 2 Dungeon Music to the Zelda 1 dungeon music. Hopefully it will get into other Zelda music from there at some point. Going to work on some various Mario songs, Metroid, Mega Man, Contra, etc. later too.

Learning scales on piano is the best because it' so linear (mention should go to melodic percussion instruments as well). Knowing HOW a scale is made (and how chords form out of them) is a wonderful thing to know. It was a pretty big revelation for me.
I know what you mean about playing without thinking. It makes anything you do musically worth while.
Gadds, man! Post some VGM interpretations!!

Post them how? All I have is a shitty electric keyboard which has no touch or pedal so it throws me off on my timing. If I could figure out a way to record from a real grand piano, and then store the mp3s created from it on the internet somewhere, then maybe I'd put them up...
