QUOTE
The scene in the prison with Han, Leia, Chewbacca and Lando... I'd just like to quickly mention what a powerful moment it is when Han realises that it is Luke who Vader is after...

I hate to pick moments out of the end of "Empire Strikes Back" because it's all good (well, there are some weak bits perhaps), but this scene is a highlight. "You've fixed us all real good, my friend--" *pow!*

But that reminds me of another moment. Lando has no idea who Luke Skywalker is, of course, and the first time he sees him is in the corridors of Cloud City, when Luke stumbles across Lando and the Stormtroopers escorting Leia and Chewbacca out, whereupon a brief firefight ensues. Just before Lando exits, he looks toward Luke and narrows his eyes with this quizzical expression on his face, as though he's asking himself, "Just who is this guy?" Billy Dee Williams adds a lot to ESB with little touches like that (which is why it's especially disappointing that he's mostly wasted in ROTJ.) I also like the way he says to Leia, "You look absolutely beautiful," with this ever so slight decrescendo on the last word, while Han rolls his eyes.

Thanks again everybody, I have more than enough to go on now. JYAMG, you highlighted just about the best from all three, especially Empire. So many great moments in that movie. I'd like to add a few scenes from all three movies

Star Wars-

1)The first Rebel/Imperial battle fight aboard the Blockade Runner. Sure it looks small scale now, but seeing that for the first time twenty odd years ago with John Williams music playing sends a shiver down your spin. You know you're about the watch something special
2)Han and Greedo scene (Before the crappy alterations) Showed Solo had an edge to him, and wasn't going to be a clean cut hero
3)Hans exchange on the intercom after he and Luke break into the detention area.
Han: (getting nervous) Uh...had a slight weapons malfunction. But, uh, everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?
4)Only on the Special Edition, but one of the few good things Lucas did. The exchange between Luke and Biggs before the Death Star battle. Add's some much needed depth to the friendship
5)"You're all clear, kid. Now let's blow this thing and go home!" Han coming in at the last second to save Luke before Vader shoots him down. I still get a rush when I see that

Empire-

1)Han and Leia's first exchange in the Hoth base. This scene alone put's the romance of AOTC to shame
2)"He is as clumsy as he is stupid" Maybe my favourite Vader line, and his subsequent punishment of Ozzel shows just how bad ass Vader could be
3)Luke's arrival on Dagobah and Yoda's first test as a "crazy hermit"
4)Leia: Captain, being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited.
Han: Sorry, sweetheart. We haven't got time for anything else.
I love this exchange between Han and Leia, and the wicked grin Han gives her as he leaves the cockpit area
5)"This deal's getting worse all the time." Lando learns what a deal with Lord Vader consists of

Return-

1)Emperor's first appearance. I was just glad he wasn't some damn muppet or midget
2)Luke's first appearance. It's still pretty cool to see Luke in full Jedi garb for the first time
3)Descent into Endor "I'm endangering the mission. I shouldn't have come." A sense of forboding that's never really realized, but still a cool scene on it's own
4)Emperor's constant taunting of Luke. Though he's straight out lying through his teeth about "his best troops" being on Endor (they run away from Ewoks for God sakes), his brain screwing of Luke show's he's the much more evil than "Papa loves Luke" will ever be
5)Luke burning Vader's body on the funeral pyre. Powerful closing scene, and the way ROTJ should've ended, instead of seeing those damn Ewoks singing

episode 4-

* the opening shot, with the Star Destroyer thundering over and over and over and over the top of your head. perhaps the best shot of the saga (so far)

episode 5-

* the first appearance of the Imperial Walkers

episode 6-

* when the A-Wing crashes into the Super Star Destroyers bridge

"intensify forward firepower!!"

"too late arrrraghhh!!"

1. I think it's safe to say that Luke looking at the sunset in the beginning of ANH is a winner. That was the first thing I thought of when I clicked on this topic as well. biggrin.gif I just love that expression, and above all how the music swells . . .

2. In ROTJ, Luke and Leia's moment. "The force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. . . . My sister has it." And the realization dawing on Leia's face.

3. Finally, when Leia tells Han Luke's her brother. He just can't believe it, it's so perfect. ^^

No way! Number three must be the most embarrassing scene in the whole trilogy. Harrison Ford's dopey expression with his mouth wide open is simply inexcusable. It embarrasses me even to think about it... and I'm sure it embarrasses Mr Ford too.

Number 1 and 2 were good though... although I don't care for number 2 much myself, I can still appreciate that those who didn't mind having Leia as "the other" would like it.

Fair enough. smile.gif But Harrison's acting job ... um, have a look at it next time you see that scene...

Even though JYAMG knows perfectly well that I share his opinion in this point, but I'll repeat it anyway.

Harrison Ford gave his worst life performance in ROTJ. Especially in the scene that Emlyn mentioned. "You could tell HIM!!!" It just hurt me to see Han from ESB turn into clown like that. It is I think almost the worst scene in ROTJ. This one and a dozen of others.

After watching the BONUS 3 hour long documentary (seemed really long) on all three Movies from the OT, I can tell you why Harrison did a bad job acting.

He didn't want to come back. He asked george to kill off his character early. Many other people, close to george, also felt that killing off one of the main roles (aside from Vader) would have been a good idea. Lucas rejected it.

I have to just point out that Madam Corvax, you have the wrong scene in mind. Granted, the one you refer to (Han's hissy fit) is terrible and Harrison's performance is even worse...

... the scene Emlyn is referring to is this one -

Han (dicky expression on his face, like he doesn't quite know what to do with it) - I'm sure Luke wasn't on that thing that blew.

Leia - He wasn't. I could feel it.

Han (still looking goofy but trying to hide it) - You love him, don't you?

Leia - Yes.

Han (overacting) - Alright. I understand. Fine. When he comes back, I won't get in the way.

Leia - No, it's not that way at all. He's my brother.

Then Han tries to make several over-the-top confused expressions, ends up looking like a chimpanzee trying to do some difficult arithimetic in his head... and in the end, Leia pulls him over and kisses him. I can only assume that this was to save him from embarrassing himself further.

They then laugh like two high school kids as if they've just kissed for the first time. Wicket, the ever annoying Ewok that Warrick Davis played, wants in as well so they both laugh and give him a hug.

I felt embarrassed for both Carrie and Harrison in that scene... but Harrison especially so.

I'd say your theory on his sudden acting deteroriation is pretty much on the mark, Jordan. I'd also say that landing the central role in Raiders of the Lost Ark may have also had a part in it. His career was taking off... and suddenly, he has to come back and finish the last film in the Star Wars trilogy. He clearly wasn't interested in it anymore and it definitely comes through in the movie...

... either that, or it was a side effect of being frozen in carbonite. wink.gif

Well, you are absolutely right JYAMG and I was wrong. Mea culpa. Of course this is a different scente.

The question is - which is worse?

Whereas Carrie Fisher could be exused as for most of the time of filming she was stoned cold, Harrison Ford did it deliberately. He just didn't care. I went off him as a character Han completely. I am Luke-girl after all. smile.gif
