Okay, so I've downloaded Firefox (because stupid Gmail doesn't support Opera users, curse them) and so far I haven't had any problems at all. I think whatever bugs we were experiencing before have been smoothed out. I'm still sticking with Opera as my default (I just like it way too much to let it go now), but I no longer consider Mozilla to be a throwaway.

Opera is great. I like Firefox as well. I hate that Opera can't use Gmail... doesn't make any sense that it can't.

If the newest Firefox has fixed the previous flaws I'd say there's not much reason to move to Opera. I do like the feature that it remembers all the tabs you have open. So when you close your browser then reopen it it just opens all the tabs you had open last time you ran Opera. That's probably the best feature IMHO.

So, uh, what makes Gmail any better than Thunderbird or Opera's m2 mail client thinger?

Wait, I can answer the second one.

Opera seems to believe that everyone has a high-bandwidth connection, and is connected to the internet at all times. So, when I disconnect either by will or by fate, Opera will ignore the lack of connection and try to check my email. Then it will throw back an error message. A lot. This is very pesky when trying to view a page offline, and it's also why I stopped using Opera a while back.

Gmail is overhyped. It's nothing special, just some extra space. I don't even bother with my account that much.

Well, Opera is not a client, it's web-based. As far as web-based email goes I find it to be pretty great. It's slick, easy to navigate and very minimal... areas where AOL, MSN and hotmail all fail miserably. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't work with Opera. Works fine with IE and Mozilla though.

I don't really use mine at all... I do almost all my email via clients since I'm always at home. smile.gif

I see... I was thinking Google was starting to make more software instead of focusing on it's search engine. Instead, they're making a search engine for email. Interesting.

I use Opera because it has a pretty name, but I suppose I'll have to get Firefox just to use for my Gmail. But I'll never use Firefox as my default browser, because that would be letting Reiner win. dry.gif

Gmail is nice recieving big files and stuff. Slade gave me my invite. I don't use email much in general, because I'm on AIM so much, but it's nice to have the space. I always ran out of room on my hotmail account. I use gmail to store alot of pictures.
