I've had a falling out with Green Day in the past, however, "American Idiot" marks Green Day's return to form. It's a straightforward punk record, and so far I'm really digging it. If anyone out there enjoyed their Insomniac-and-before records, you will probably get some enjoyment out of AI. It's just a good fun album.

I've never really cared much for Green Day. But since they started playing American Idiot on the radio, it's kind of gotten stuck in my head. I might be convinced to check them out again sometime soon.

EDIT: ...That was kind of cool. The second I hit the Submit Post button, the song came on the radio. blink.gif

I have to say that I honestly love this CD - I'm listening to "Jesus of Suburbia" right now.

Word. I love punk, and have been needing to expand my rather small album collection. Hecc - I liked Nimrod a lot, haven't listened to any records after that, only before. I'll go pick up AI some time soon. Any reviews on NOFX's War On Errorism? I've found a couple songs off of it, and they are good stuff, and I like NOFX a bunch, but when a band is around for a long time I start getting wary of the quality of their newer stuff.

I've hated NOFX for years. They're idiots, and they usually don't have a clue as to what they're talking about when they try to get socially aware. The singer drones on and on about how much he hates Bush, but he never seems to have anything to back it up. He just hates him because it's the "punk" thing to do. If you want to get into some more punk music, talk to me on AIM sometime and I'll throw together some stuff that you should look into.

I'd like to talk to you online but I haven't seen you on for two weeks. I'll keep that in mind. Hypocrites suck. It's really tough to find bands that stay good for years, that's why I'm always wary, and good thing! "I'm gonna be punk, except I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon!" Like those six-second punks who just buy clothes from Hot Topic. *STAB* I've got some Misfits, Ramones, Millencolin, a couple Dead Kennedys songs, (but I don't like them much), got my old Offspring CD, Nimrod (like I said earlier)...

I heard Green days new album, American Idiots a nice song, and Green Days previous stuff like minority and warning i really liked, however apart from that its not really my type of music. Punk music doesn't have any melody(or atleats of the stuff I've heard), so it needs to be nice and fast, however some of the other songs seemed a bit slow. (Edit: I'm an idiot and wrong)

Personally I don't like listening to punk that much, punk needs to be experinced to really aprreciate it smile.gif

"Punk music doesn't have any melody"? Buy a Ramones album and get back to me on that. Either that or a dictionary, and look up "melody".

I actually surprised myself and enjoyed american idiot. It sounded like they'd gone back to writing good, fun punk rock. I still think nimrod is their best album, but at least they've moved on from warning.

I agree with Heccubus, nofx are a bit of a joke band. If you want some better political stuff coming out of that same scene, buy a bad religion cd. The process of belief has a little bit of melody.

And from my experience, it really pisses off the religious types when you play their music around them...well, at least that's fun for me. smile.gif

Yeah, it's really boss. Green Day has really come a long way with their lyrics, and concept albums are always pretty neat. The reoccuring themes and such... They manage to blend a bunch of different music styles without it sounding forced or wierd. My first impression of it wasn't that high, but it's really grown on me. Many kudos to Green Day.

I bought it a month ago for 12$ uncensored at Best Buy. That puts Best Buy infinity squared times above Wal*Mart, which would sell it for 20$ censored.

We don't have a Best Buy around where I live, so if I want something that Wal Mart won't stock or only has the censored version of, I have to go to Sam Goody. Their stuff is always more expensive...

We have regular CD stands that set up in our student union, that sometimes have absolute bargins - £3 for Dookie, because the cover was photocopied. However, I haven't bought much recently, being comically skint, so American Idiot is going on my "Xmas 2004 Presents" list...
