The Phantom menace was pretty needless wasn't it? anakin as an annoying little kid (and being a jesus wannabe from tatooine and building c-3po from scratch) obi wan as a roger moore impersonator, palpatine as a senator and some planet called naboo being blockaded by tax traders and their anorexic driods who can't shoot for shit. exciting. It's wasting time - we want to see and all out clone war and actually seeing anakin being a cunning warrior, the best pilot in the galaxy and a good friend to obi wan instead of all the whining we get.

Take it away and you can set up a decent prequel trilogy worthy of preceding the originals:

My Episode 1: Plot similar to AOTC, and with a few important changes. You see anakin's training and padme's important role to the republic, and more background on the jedi and role in the galaxy. There will be no jango or boba fett. C-3PO and r2-d2 will be droids that serve the hierarchy of the senate (palpatine or someone) and will not be built by anakin on tatooine (anakin will come from somewhere else other than tatooine, to be explained through expositional dialogue, ). All 3 leading Characters the same age as in AOTC, little love story just them getting to know each other like in ANH with a small hint of romance.

episode 2: basically a love triangle between obi wan, anakin and padme set amongst the clone wars. Palpatine's relationship with anakin will be shown in detail instead of being hinted at. padme will fall for anakin and obi wan will be jealous of this. bail Organa will be introduced, a han solo/lando type character fighting alongside the two jedi (he'll be a general, soon to be leader of the senate). The jedi and the clone army will continue to track dark prince xizor and some sith lord across the galaxy as they discover these people are behind the separatist movement in a bid to end the confilct. the adventure will take them through underwater, air, land and space battles on different planets and the separatist driod armies will be very imposing like the terminator T-X machines.

episode 3: very dark and few action set pieces in comparison to ep.II. detioration of the friendship between obi wan and anakin portrayed well. Anakin will kill the supposed leader of the separatists in the opening scenes, a sith lord, but will not be given any recognition from the jedi counsil. A lot of focus will also be on palpatine and his sinister influence, telling anakin of his power and how the jedi are not fulfilling it on purpose. Palpatine will have leading members of the senate killed and frame it on the jedi, so as to convince anakin of their corruption, and their underlying plans to overthrow palpatine and takeover the republic. obi wan will find out of the forbidden romance and marriage between anakin and padme, and will confront anakin who will mistake this as obi wan having feelings for padme and descend into a rage (cue anakin accidently fatally wounding padme later on and having a duel with mentor obi wan). The jedi purge will be shown briefly, anakin/vader will lead stormtroopers to protect palpatine and murder all the jedi in the temple on coruscant. final scene will be vader and palpatine overlooking the construction of the death star on a star destroyer, obi wan will deliver the luke to tatooine and bail organa will take leia to alderaan (this scene will be like the end of empre in cloud city where the main character are fleeing imperial troops for the millenium falcon, only here the characters are fleeing coruscant and the fall of the republic led by palpatine. yoda will flee to dagobah.

Lucas will not direct and kasdan will be back to write the screenplay.

legal note: no jar jar, fart gags or hayden christensen.

That actually sounds good.

It really doesn't seem like Lucas even did an outline of what was supposed to be accomplished in these movies, hense the plot we see: a tattered thing hanging flacidly from set-pieces.

Wasn't Episode 2 originally suppose to be a love triangle? I was hearing that for the longest time. Of course Lucas took the easy way out (again) and went on to make a more conventional love story. Both ROTJ and AOTC could've used much better love stories. For AOTC, Obi Wan also falling for Padme would've truly given him depth as a Jedi who was flawed, and maybe an actual reason for Anakin resenting him!

The "love story" of AOTC was very uninspiring, I wonder if the emotional aspect of the SW prequels comes second to Lucas behind all his action scenes.

I think it does. What makes it more sad is that his action scenes aren't much either.

I thought the Jango/Obi Wan fight was pretty cool the first time I saw it. Then Chef Elf pointed out in his 78 reasons to hate list Lucas lifted it straight from the Shadows of the Empire videogame. So the best action seqeunce from the prequels comes from a game. I prefered it when he borrowed ideas from old, hard to find movies.

BTW Garth, your idea for Episode 3 sounds much better than what I've read from the real script.

Jariten, you're the only one on the forum who feels that way. Everyone else here thinks Episode I was a waste of time (except for Mike Mac, who feels that it was a good idea, poorly executed).

It's a hard fight that you have taken upon yourself, mate... a lone prequel fan in the stronghold of the prequel haters.

Okay guys, as you were.

Where can you get the real script, or is it just a mock-up?

Sorry, I should've been more specific. I like Garth's idea for Episode 3 better than what I've read from the real Episode 3 script. Lightsaber fighting is usually cool, but if Lucas stays true to the script half the movie will be lightsaber fights. That might be a bit much

I'd be too lazy to create my own prequels at this stage too. However, for anyone interested in penning their own, I'd like to refer you to this essential reading.
