I know there are a lot of things to bash George Lucas for, however there are some things which are not his doing which drive me insane! HEre's One of them. Well I was in the book store the other day flipping through some of the graphic novels. So I come across this one comic book that has a fight between Boba Fett and Darth Vader, Now I'm nt to sure if the comics themselves are actually included into the expanded universe... however in this particular comic the battle ends in a stalemate. Now I'm aware of how badass Fett is or supposed to be, but I just do NOT see this being a battle Boba Fett could possibly hope for a stalemate, let alone a win.

Anyone have any thoughts on the subject or any other examples of Expanded Universe just getting it wrong?

Really? Hmm. I loved Shatterpoint. I didn't care at all for Mace Windu beforehand, and after reading it, Stover had somehow gotten me to. And 35 pages! Come on, the first 5 pages alone are a fabulous hook, and you have to read more than 30 pages after that! And this is from someone who likes the prequels, I mean, I would think you would LOVE a book like this that expands on the characters and is so much more well-written and exciting than the movies.

I basically read every EU book (not comic book or graphic novel though) that comes out. Zahn's are the best, Stackpole's are all very good, very exciting, and the rest is pretty much a crapshoot. Some are great (like Shatterpoint), and some suck (like the Crystal Star). Overall though, I would rate the SW EU books at a 7 or 8 out of 10, I think it's usually very entertaining.

ROTFLMAO! I loved the bit about Vader regressing to Anakin Skywalker.

i just found the writing to be leaden and dull. but perhaps only 35 pages isnt really giving it much of a chance.

Believe it or not, The Approaching Storm is a good book. IMO it potrays Anakin better than AOTC did: A hero in turmoil. Not as a whiney psychopath who everyone hates. It could've doen without the gross out humor though.

I think Lucas could learn a thing or two from the some of the good books in the EU

Why do you use the word psychopath in a bad way? I thought the scene where he tries to free his mother the only good scene in the first two movies. It showed Anakin as a no-nonsense justice machine, which I could easily see turning into Vader.

'Justice machine'? Killing everyone in a village, women and children included, because some of them killed his mother? I'm pretty glad we don't have 'justice' like that where I live. Besides, Anakin killed the Sand People in a fit of violent rage, which Vader never did - he was a psychopath, yes, but a calm and collected one.

I'm with slime sublime. I was just waking up out of my torpor with a bit of hope when I thought Anakin was going to get medieval on some sandpeople's asses for torturing his dear old mum. But then Lucas cuts away and the whole thing lost its point. I thought we were supposed to see Anakin's dark side right then and be scared! Nope, he just whinges about it later. Woulda bin cool if he'd come back with a collection of ears on a string or something, and then had to explain it away to his new girlfriend somehow by lying about them when she accidently discovers them. "Do I look like the kind of guy who would kill all those sandpeople and cut off their ears?? Baby, it's ME!" Woulda at least added some edginess to their relationship.

Why did the sand people even bother torturing her?

Shmi: For the last time I'm telling you I don't know anything about the army of the republic coming here!

Sand People: We have vays of makink you talk voman!

Yeah, sure.

THE SAND PEOPLE ARE NOT EVIL! This is proven in KOTOR! They would not just kidnap and torture people for fun! And as for Anakin killing them all I do indeed think it should have been shown or just not happened at all. It's like Lucas just has to leave out every plot detail possible and either vaguely reference them or not reference them at all.

Anakin: Oh by the way I talk to Palpatine a lot apparently

Anakin: Also, I have dreams about my mom constantly. Even though I only seem to have one.

Anakin: Oh, while you were out I slaughtered a small village, just felt you should know.

i have to say... the only moment of the film AOTC in which i got exicted was when Annie drew his lightsabre... i actually sat up, rubbed my hands together and said "sweet!!!" then it cut away...

the one moment he did something that made me like him and they cut away... then he whines like a bitch about it.... to his bitch... who doesn't seemed disturbed by it....

hmmm... that's the kind of girl i want my next girlfriends to be.

as for justice....?
the sand people enslaved and tortured shmi... they may not have all had a go at beating and gangraping her... but they all endorsed it, otherwise someone else from the encampment would have released her already...

but more than that : mother schmother...
i would have wiped out the whole village if they captured and tortured the mail man...

and i would have done it yelling "yipeeeee!!!!"

Oh, come on. Even the children? And anyone who tried to release her might have got hurt themselves. Yeah, it's not particularly moral to stand by and let someone be beaten, but it's not the same thing as doing it yourself.

I just can't believe anyone has sympathy for Anakin Skywalker. He doesn't show a single admirable quality from one end of AotC to the other. As I've said hundreds of times, Lucas should have shown him as a good man before he went to the Dark Side, so that we actually have some idea of how he was better than Vader in the first place. As it is he goes straight from 'whingy, immature, annoying teenager' to 'crazed psychopath'.
