Some of our Return of the Jedi gushers try to justify him being there in all sorts of ludicrous ways. One of the worst reasons I heard was that they felt he needed to be dealt with. He needed to be dealt with? Why? So everything could be wrapped up in a nice little happy commercialised package for the kiddies?

What about Dodonna from the first movie. I think we needed to deal with him. Or General Riekeen or the Ion Canon girl, or... or... or...

I just wanted to do that one last bash. I've put up with enough from Lucas. I just can't deal with him or all of this crap, or the gushers, or... any of it. The only thing that will truly bring me back now to Star Wars is if Lucas turns around and actually puts the ORIGINAL Star Wars on DVD. That is the only way. Otherwise, it's sayonara.

Thanks guys for the great opportunity of bashing and dissing. It' been fun, but only so much I can do. It will only make me depressed.

Take care.

Flying Ferret

Battle for the Galaxy--read the "other Star Wars"

All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.

Boba Fett is certainly more than a bit player in Star Wars now- hence we need some kind of closure for his character.

Boba Fett being eaten by a Sarlaac is good enough closure for me.

Boba Fett is not a big player, he's just a bounty hunter....

oh, sorry... his father started the Clone Wars? Yeah, right!

You see, Jariten, that's why most of us don't consider the prequels to be canon.

Boba Fett needs an intricate backstory. We NEED to have answered the burning question of where the stormtroopers originally came from (because "they were just drafted" is too easy)...and yet...

The STUPID FUCKING MUPPET that sits next to Lando in the Millenium Falcon in RotJ requires no explanation.!!

Did he even have a name? I recommend Elian Sockpuppetaggano. Couldn't we have one scene of Lando meeting his co-pilot? "What is this, some sort of sick joke?"

No, Lucas was too busy coming up with explaining shit that needed no explanation:
EMPEROR: I here you have hired Boba Fett to help in the capture of the rebels.
VADER: Yes, my emperor.
EMPEROR: You know he is really cool.
VADER: I wouldn't say that.
EMPEROR: You cannot deny his coolness. Search your feelings, Lord Vader. You know that it is true.

how the clone wars came about needed an explanation (and Lucas gave us a good one). Boba Fett was just a really small part of that, more to add depth to Jango than anything else. the guy who sat next to Lando wasnt a part of anything. some characters get more screen time than others- isnt that the way with all films though?

That's the great thing about lack of backstory. The Audience is left to think for themselves, and often to more interesting ends.

Hinting at such in an opening work is sufficient.
