I'm curious as to whether anyone among you can tell me one time when the PT illicited some emotion or caring from you for one of the characters. Excitement at the shiny duels does not count. And before all of you jump up let me point out that I'm not counting murderous rage directed at George Lucas, embarassment for having seen the film, or general suicidal depression either.

"Bye mom have a nice time in slavery, don't go getting kidnapped by sand people for no reason."

"Bye son, have a nice time with these strange men and their mutant I sold you to."

Touching.

Well we kinda did this before with Jariten's one scene you liked in the PT, but ok. Also, I wonder who will be the first to say the only emotions it ellicited were feelings of hate and anger towards Lucas, though they're certainly understandable smile.gif. But, to answer honestly, I'm going to say A Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far, Away, and the opening shot with music. That's something even Lucas can't screw up, and every time I see it (and this will probably be including Episode III), it is very affecting. I don't think even the most serious preqel or Star Wars hater can sit through the first 5 seconds and not have some good feelings generated by that.

As for an actual scene, I'm going with the scene in Episode II where Anakin is chasing for his mother on the swoop bike. Best scene of the movie IMO. And for Episode I, I'll say when Qui-Gon dies, even though that's more shocking than truly emotional.

i wasnt trying to argue with anyone or to prove a point. you asked for one scene which someone thought was touching and i gave it to you. whats the point in trying to rip it apart?

whatever. i stand by my choice- its perhaps my favourite moment in the PT so far, all the more after AotC as it becomes clear that Anakin is unable to move on, to accept change, to not look back, and all the other things his mother warned him against.

when they made Jar JAr a general... i thought that was brilliant! what a moment... to sea the most important character of the PT films rise from this pathetic dude who was kicked out of him home city, being made a leader of his peoples armies... i mean wow...

after that i just wanted to go out and listen to some top 40 music.

When the boss of the Gungans decides to join forces with the humans of Naboo... it's so moving to see these two races coming together in a common cause ...

I'm sorry. That could have been powerful, except the gungans were an incredibly annoying CGI race, the humans were cardboard characters who were fairly dislikeable and the gungan leader slobbered all over everyone.

I have to admit that even I was touched by that beautiful scene where Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman share their first kiss beneath the Naboo moons and declare their love for each...oh...um....you mean the LUCAS Star Wars prequels?

Um...sorry...got nothing for you.

I've met jariten's challenge and admitted to some scenes I thought were technically good. But you ask the impossible.

When I was sixteen, and watched TPM, I was pretty excited. But that was because I was very, very easily excitable at the time. Some time in the last 13 months, I became a very, very quiet and not so easily excitable as I once was. So I can't say that the Star Wars PT can bring up ANY emotion in me at all right now.

Star Wars Episode 2 never did make me feel anything other than disgust and boredom. The 'romance' between Padme and Anakin was absolutely terrible in my opionon.

I think tv guide should use that apt description instead of "stilted dialogue and wooden acting." tongue.gif

"I promise you, I wont fail again"

Hopeful Lucas sending stinking prequel to discouraged fans.

My candidate for most emotional/touching scenes is:

When Boss Nass hands Queen Amidala the blue ball. I had tears in my eyes as that big blue symbol of love and peace was presented to the Queen. We all knew that peace and prosperity would reign on Naboo forever from that day. Yes, the blue ball would ensure that Gungans and Noobians live peacefully side by side, in a symbiont circle, just like Obi-Wan said.

I really hope that the blue ball gets its deserved comeback in RotS. That scene did have a hidden meaning, I'm sure of it. Maybe, just maybe, it is a freakish gargantuan midichlorian that will somehow be important in episode III. I for one, sure hope so.

HK- I always did wonder about that. I mean it would have been such a cinch to give that scene meaning. If the gungans had been a little more likeable and someone had made just the tiniest remark about it being sacred or symbolic or just mentioned it at all it might have made sense. I think it could have been some sort of photon torpedo-like device and that Boss Nass was part of a plot to assassinate her. The way I see it is that Palpatine hired Maul to hire Jango Fett to hire Boss Hogg to hire Boss Nass to give Amidala an exploding blue ball, but the plot was somehow foiled. I think it'll be edited into ROTJ the even specialer edition, with Whoever the hell played Obi Wan and Hayden Christiansen holding the ball back aloft.
