I'm curious if there will even be an attempt in Episode III to show his power. We already know he loses the battle to Obi Wan. If he can't even beat Obi Wan in battle then why is Palpatine interested in him in the first place? Wouldn't any old Jedi do?

This is so true and it spans further than his ability to fight. He disobeys every command Obi Wan gave him.

Lets not forget that little spaz he threw done on tattoine. Murdering an entire tribe of Sand People did not seem like something a well bred Jedi would do.

The Jedi order, in my opinion, is also filled to the brim with flat out jerks. Before I was so rudely banned from the Starwars Forums, someone was saying that Anakin could not see his mom because the council forbid it.

What kind of order, whose main purpose is to breed high quality individuals, would not let it's own followers visit their parents?

And just before I was "frozen in carbonite" I saw one thread that was demanding a predominate female jedi role for the 3rd movie.

And other threads were just as bad.

It is interesting that this is a theme that is also played out in the gaming merchandise. I've been playing Knights of the Old Republic and there is a similar concept that runs through with one of the main characters, Bastilla. Some of her dialogue talks about the Jedi being encourage to sever contact with family due to the "emotions" that such bonds create. The concept of love is also dealt with in the same fashion.

I guess the upside of the game is that you actually get to disagree with this absurd notion which then influences the perceptions of other characters. You can even help them see the error of their ways. I mention this as an upside because we are nevere going to get this chance in the real world, so it's nice that it happens somewhere blink.gif

1. ChefElf made this point (as well as many other good ones) in his original list of reasons, but I emphasize it again here. All of us who watched the orginal trilogy thought that being a jedi was teh coolest shit in the world. The prequels have made this once cool order into a bunch of tightwad, souless assholes.

2. I always thought that the money in these prequels would be everything that would happen in Ep3, Anakin Fighting Kenobi, becoming Vadar, Jedi being wiped out, twins being separated, etc. The rest would be filler. Being an optomist I have a small glimmer of hope that EP3 will be good...although that hope is getting ever smaller with every new analysis of the shit Lucas has been feeding with the past 2 debacles.

You realise you are just setting yourself up for a great fall. Is not obvious yet? Lucas had an out-of-body experience and something else took over. I figure it's a demon of some sort, bent on murdering the classic epic.

two (serendipidous) consistancies with "Good jedi can't love their parents" (as dumb a notion as that is)

Obi-Wan offers Luke the opportunity to become a jedi *after* his parental figures have died.

Luke is given the opportunity to a relationship with his father as he's offered an entry to the dark side, and therefore, an exit from the jedi order.

as far as soulless jedi and nepotism, on the dvd audio commentary: it's revealed that all the jedi kids from the neck down in Ep 2 were CGI of some producers' or fx wizards' kids. I didn't read the caption of who's. lackey to GL pretty much says it all.

WAS the greatest and still is. The last two movies were garbage. But I still enjoy watchting the original. And whats best is that when I do watch them I in no way connect anything in episodes IV,V,VI to anything in I,II. When I see Vader I don't see hayden, when I see obi wan I don't see ewan, when I see palpatine I don't see Naboo or anything. Podracing whats that?

It's like my brain will not let me make the connection. As far as I m concerned the frist 2 films did not really take place. The origin's of vader are still a hazey mistery.

Nice work B. the first time I thought you were joking and I didn't give it credence. this time I read it as a secret storyline: the product of much research and it made a lot of sense. then I got to the last line and felt the fool as in may of '99, may of '02...

See I interpreted your comment as a better version to justify the post triliogy. I did not justify, I just completely blanked out everything. They are different but similair in the way that we both can still enjoy the classic trilogy I guess. cool.gif

I feel sorry for those who have the prequel engraved in their head. Prequel? what am I even talking about, Those sorta kinda but not really starwars films.

I agree. when you fire up the dvd it has the famous "STAR WASR" logo, letters filled with action scenes like those "greetings from" postcards (but the imagery is moving)

this look is far too slick for the SW I grew up with. Let alone, if it precedes the "classic" trilogy why should it have to appear "NEW" and improved? we'll there is a 50's diner...

"Dexterr Jettser" there's a lame character for you. He and Obi-wan go back so far and are such good buddies... (maybe he's Obi-wan's *secret* DAD!) rolleyes.gif

Ah, yes. Theforce.net. Someone told me they were owed by LFL. Each section is run by different moderators, some nicer that others. The bottom line is that theforce.net is full of younger people who 1) get ticked off if they're wrong and you're right, and 2) they don't value real debate.

I posted the following link Lightsaber Choreography Critique: 7 out of 10 and loads of morons kept spouting that I was "arrogant" "nit picking" "not taking the Force into account". It was like walking out into a playground full of stupid, spoiled brats.

A friend of mine, Robert Brown, had the worlds best lightsaber page but he finally got rid of it because of all the "children" who would flame him for his superb work. It essentially came down to the fact that people didn't like being proven wrong, and because the internet is so anonymous they would simply resort to name calling.

This is an excellent critique Nick. I read through a lot of the posts and your responses also. Thanks for this, as I like to know about how far from reality these things are diverging. I'm no swordsman and thus always wonder about the style and technique being used in films like Star Wars. I can appreciate what looks good, but it's also nice to think that practical application of the forms being used would yield quality results in the "real world".

This really bugged me. I don't beleive they're friends. I found the whole diner scene difficult to watch, none of it looked like starwars, none of it fel like starwars, the cook the music, oh god no.

well if that's what you think, you haven't listened to grand dragon lucas. on the audio commentary he goes on and on about what good buddies they are, and have been for years.

Dex has always given ME the creeps. (moreso on the dvd where DJ serves up bonus scenes. he's frightening, like uncle ernie from the who's tommy) Lucas wanted to do an homage to AG. similarly good moviemaking would be a start, but it's too late for that now.

incidentally, Elon Sleazebaggono has dvd role also (nothing we haven't seen already. wanna buy some deathsticks?)
