The SFX is the story in the PT. Period. Lack of soul, feelings and human interaction is overwhelming. George is basing his films on SFX, not the other way around. When George boasts about his films, he says virtually nothing about character development or relationships, let alone the story, he talks technological breakthroughs. Doesn't that give you a clue?

Remember when people asked him about Anakin before he cast Christensen. "Ah, we'll get some teenage hunk to play Anakin". "Teenage hunk"??! That's right, that's the criteria for the Jedi who would become Darth Vader.

Sure, George. Special effects died in the late 50s and early 60s and YOU brought them back. I guess I owe you a debt of gratitude since NO ONE was making special effects films until you came along. There was no Ray Harryhausen and John Danforth turning out magical stop motion animation films. They died in the late 50s. Thanks for reminding me. And 2001: A Space Odyssey really didn't have much in the way of special effects at all. Douglas Trumball just dangled some cardboard spaceships from some wire coathangers. Is that what you meant to say, George?

Your little movie did not come along at the right time and save special effects. Special effects came along at the right time and saved your movie.

Not very, he didn't say anything else on the subject as I recall...

Commentaries on the DVDs? The paysite? As far as I've seen, the commentaries they release on the official site are about costume, FX, props and stunts.

the man did a lot for the special effects industry, and for good or bad lucasfilm breathed new life into it. the company he made has pionered so much, i think he deserves to give himself a bit of credit.

I haven't seen any of the commentaries, but I did once see a video about the making of Episode III, and I found it revealing that most of the costumes and sets had been designed before Lucas even wrote the script.

I for one am hoping that if he's making the movie darker, then he'll drop a lot of the crap put in there to wow the kids, and perhaps give us some decent dialouge. That being said, I'm not holding my breath.
