Are they really making a Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy film? I probably already know, but I'm too stupid to remember, and I only found out from one of Yahtzee's articles on Lockergnome...

Yup. Saw the preview for it at Comic-Con this year. Should be coming out some time in 2005. It's pretty cool, it has Mos Def as Ford Prefect, Sam Rockwell as Zaphod Beeblebrox (A role he was born to play, don't you think?), amongst other talented folks.

Here's the most recent info available that I'm aware of:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371724/
Watch "Fall of a Saga" on Southern Ronin.com - The film for every Star Wars fan that died when Greedo shot first.

The Creative Orgasm - You have to see it for yourself.

That's it, I'm getting those books. They should have been on my personal "Required Reading" list long ago.

...That's what I said around midday yesterday. I got the four books that the campus library had available, and have only been able to read about fifty pages or less because of classes, but I think I'm in love...

I also feel like beating myself in the head for not doing this sooner. yell.gif

Mos Def as Ford Prefect

That right there is precisely why I don't plan on rushing out to see it.
I know that Douglas Adams had a hand in writing the film before his death, but there are many things about it that seem questionable at best. Martin is now approximately four feet tall, Ford is now inexplicably black, and there are several new characters that have been written in. Hopefully it won't turn out to be complete garbage, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

At least this girl has dark hair and large eyes. Ford Prefect being black, I'm not too keen on.... maybe this is another case of Hollywood including all the token characters for the sake of political correctness. They better put in a token gay character as well then.

Eh, I don't really have a problem with Ford being black. When I first heard about it a while ago, though, I thought it said that Mos Def was playing Arthur Dent, and I started freaking out. But as long as he plays him well, I don't mind what color Ford is.

Also, they said that this will be true to the spirit of the book, but will not directly follow the plot of the five-book trilogy (you gotta love that don't you?). Still, the new characters don't seem stupid, specifically a high priest played by John Malkovich. You can't really go wrong there, in or out of the book. I'm certainly hopeful it will be good, can't say I'm confident, but I'm hopeful. We'll see.

The 4 foot tall Marvin played by Warwick Davis bugs me a bit though...

I've never read the books. I've seen the BBC tv series, but when I tried to get the books from the library, I ended up with the damn radio script. yell.gif

You know, I only read the books, like, a year ago. They kinda, I dunno, for me they kinda go down hill after the third. I understand that they were originally only supposed to be a trilogy. Even so, read all of them. They're all good, just the first three seemed a bit better to me.
