Okay, as you all know, I am now in New York City. My internet is working (for the moment) but I had a hell of a time setting it up. I'll spare you all the details but let's just say that after hours and hours of unplugging and plugging in cables, resetting modems, routers and other miscellaneous troubleshooting I have finally isolated the problem.

I thought it may be the cable line, or perhaps the splitter that the cable guy installed. Rather it was this simple: If the modem is plugged in to the same wall outlet/surge protector as my computer/hub/router/monitors... I can't get online. If I leave everything set up EXACTLY the same but plug in the modem across the room, it works fine.

Obviously this is only a temporary solution as there are wires running all across the floor. Does anyone know of any reason (i.e. electrical interference) that this would be happening?

ISP: Time Warner/RoadRunner
Modem: RCA DCM315
Router: LinkSys BEFSR41
Hub: LinkSys NH1005

I've seen a little information on this posted but nothing exactly like I'm having. Anyone (mrRobinson? rolleyes.gif) have any ideas?

I've been using all this same equipment (except the new modem) with my last ISP and it all worked fine.

Thanks for any help you could give me on the subject! smile.gif

This might sound dumb, but did you try an IP refresh?

Yeah I tried everything. I have it working now. Apparently when it is close to the hub/router I need to push in the network cable very tightly and it works. If I leave the modem across the room I can leave it as loose as I'd like and it works. Quite strange.
