Alright, I was going to post this in the Casablanca post, but decided to make a new one about it. So people, post away, I'll reply to your posts, I don't really feel like writing a big long post about the merits and unmatched influence of Citizen Kane right now.

Can't say I liked it. I watched it a long time ago in Film and Television class in High School. I found it dull and rather pointless... and can't remember anything about it now.

In it's defence, perhaps it was the fact that my teacher over-analysed every last frame of every single film we watched... and perhaps it is because of this that I didn't enjoy the experience.

I can no longer watch several Alfred Hitchcock movies because of my teacher's over-analysing. Hitchcock films! Ruined by over-analysing! sad.gif

The thing is, it's not necessary to like it. It was made a very, very long time ago, and it's perfectly understandable if you didn't like it as a movie. But as a piece of movie-making, you really have to acknowledge that it's brilliantly. Hell, the one scene at the beginning with a young Kane playing in the snow in the window and his parents talking in the foreground is amazing, because he managed to keep both fore and background in focus. The low-angle shots, showing Kane as being bigger than everyone else are great. The use of transitions (the loud noise the typewriter makes when it clicks the first time, and then is soft the rest of the time) is brilliant as well.

I understand about the teacher though, I actually saw it with my dad, and he would occasionally point stuff out to me, but I didn't really have anyone overanalyze it for me. I did really enjoy it though, not the most enjoyable thing of all time, but a very interesting story and enjoyable story, and Welles does a great job of acting (amazing he wrote, directed, and starred in this, did a great job in every part, and it was his first film!)

I actually cried when I watched the ending, even though I already knew it.

As an auteur.......................

........................

I am almost ashamed to say that I saw Citizen Kane once two years ago...........................

But can't remember a damn thing about the film!!!! blink.gif ..................

I usually have a photographic memory when it comes to movie dialogue and scenes.....but the only scene I remember is the damn "ROSEBUD!!!!!!" scene and the Rosebud revelation scenes...." That's it! I can't remember another scene apart from the ones everybody already knows about!!! unsure.gif

The movie must not of had a huge impression on me........ dry.gif

..........either that or I was smoking too much pot at the time!! tongue.gif

.......PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTION: Can a person ever smoke too much pot? tongue.gif

You can If your employers make your profitable, creative and productive self take a whiz quiz...

C. Kane also brought us that song parodied in the simps. You know his name, it's Mister Burns

and the Sideshow Bob campaign scene, and the whole bobo intro.

Maybe Lucas could star in his epic next time so there's no doubt who to blame.
