Add me to the list of those who think it's a bad idea. The end of Return of the Jedi wrapped up the trilogy perfectly well; why this compulsion to explain 'what happened next'? Especially since the original actors are now all far too old. I wouldn't be keen on it even if Lucas did make the Thrawn trilogy - knowing him, he'd probably screw it up so badly that you'd never be able to bear to read the books again.

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Personally I would have much rather had sequels than prequels. I don't understand why people needed to know everything before hand, when I could make some perfectly good stuff up from what I knew from the trilogy. Sequels give you a new chance for drama, with characters who you don't know the fates of, and really gives you endless possibilities to explore. Prequels limit you in what you can do, so that everything must agree with and lead up to the originals (though Lucas hasn't followed that rule that well). I would still like sequels, even if they were about the Solo and Skywalker kids and a new generation of Jedi, because I think, if done well, they really could bring back the magic of Star Wars and make a fabulous trilogy, much more than the prequels could have.

Here it comes ...

I think they could be great!

I would not line up on opening day, but the potential is there.

Lucas would no longer be painted into the corner of his own bad idea: he could actually do anything in these movies.

If the sequels are made, and the first gets good reviews, I will watch AOTC and ROTS on video, and be born again.

PS: Only if Luke Leia and Han were in them at least a little bit. I don't think it's fair to say the years have been unkind to Carrir Fisher. I saw her in Sex and the City and she looked like a woman born in the late fifties, which is what she is.

Well by that apparently you believe Lucas is still a good filmmaker. You don't think he should hand over the reins to some young up-and-coming director, you don't think he'll paint himself into another corner? I mean, I think Lucas could still make a good film, the potential is there, but I don't know if he will. It's certainly possible I guess. But I agree, I hope they do make sequels, and hopefully bring back the love of Star Wars, I'm just concerned that Lucas will, well, screw them up if he does them.

If the prequels had actually been worth something, I would be excited by this news, but alas... no.

There is always the possiblity that Lucas could learn some lessons from the PT's, and finally get a decent product, duplicate the quality of the original films, but.. that's wishful thinking again.

He can't do these things by himself. If he gets creative help from good writers, directors, etc... maybe this could be good news. But I'll just wait and see on this one. I can't say I'm excited though. The prequels have given me no reason to be.

Bring back Irvin Kishner!
I would be at the theatre so fast if he did another movie.

I don't mind if they make more SW movies...

but not sequels...

and not by george...

and no more than 10% of the CGI usage of the PT (and better quality for the love of God)...

and no media-chlorines....

and no relation to characters from the existing movies (yeah, no even a background fucking alien like hammerhead, I mean nothing!!!)...

God no!!! no more movies!!!. I hope its not true, no more SW movies after the prequals. If he makes movies that follow on from ROTJ, Lucas will probably contradict many things from the EU, and if he does that than everything will be all screwed up, the EU will be meaningless!!
I think he should stop in his tracks, and accept that SW is over for him and leave it for the novel writers.

The sad thing about Kershner is that he's too old to direct anymore--at least, that's what he says. So, not a possibility.

Sigh.

Sigh. And double sigh.

I... don't know what to say anymore. It's all hopeless. Let the gushers have it. I'm going to find something else more interesting to watch, get into something new and epic... or maybe old and epic. Maybe I'll see if I can find some raunchy Japanese films....

See you guys later.

Yeah, different director. Someone technically-minded, with a good idea of character and story of course, but comfortable with technology and with action films in general. Additionally, someone with a studio mindset, who can deliver a consistent product without adding all of his own artistry. Someone said Proyas, and I think that would be a fine pick, since he's clearly not too interested in being an auteur.

The important thing would be to give the reinsa to someone, and to let a writer write them. Not necessarily a fan, either, since that road is dangerous. A seasoned screenwriter with some credits under his belt, who knows genre stuff and would put his heart into it. My pick would be Joss Whedon. Hell. Maybe even let him direct the third one.

Let's face it, the only sequels that would make any sense at this point in the series would be:

WOOKIE VS. PREDATOR

or

ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET BOBA FETT

OK, I also suggest the following titles:

The Gungangs: The Battle for Naboo
The Gungang Adventure
Young Jar-Jar Binks Chronicles (TV - at least 4 seasons)
Jar-Jar Binks the Rastaphibian

I think these will do well - they will allow GL to display fully his abilities as a writer-produces
