Apparently, according to insiders in Lucasfilm, Lucas is going to make sequels. Now, this is what he should have done anyway, because frankly I didn't give a crap about the prequels and thought they were a bad idea in the first place, since we all knew what would happen. But, since it's after the prequels, I have of course much less confidence in this. Basically, he's accomplished alienating those who grew up on the movies, so now he's going to alienate those who got into (or back into) Star Wars on the Timothy Zahn books. Expect Grand Admiral Thrawn to be a Gungan, the Noghris to be made into Ewoks, and Mara Jade and Luke's uneasy relationship made even uneasier by stilted dialogue. Oh, and Joruus C'baoth is actually a clone of Jango Fett.

We can only hope he lets someone else direct the movies.

Don't expect anything Zahn-related whatsoever. Lucas is good at ignoring the EU, not that I'm a big fan of it, but...

The sequels are going to suck just as bad as the prequels/SE, and you KNOW there will be more "definitive" versions of the OT in order to "fit in with the postquels"

Thanks! smile.gif

Edit: Hmmm, wonder what to make of it? Coulkd still just be a fanboy rumour, but it does seem to have some credibility. Well, he probably won't wait another 20 years so, but Ford, Hamill and Fisher returning? Seems highly unlikely...

It will inevitably happen one day. Not anytime soon. Think 10-15 years from now. Hopefully George will have gotten directing out of his system, and will pass the torch to someone more capable (NO, not Spielberg!)
My order of Top3 directors for the sequels would be:

1. Darren Aronofsky
Brilliant young director will a eye for detail and darkness. He would seem to be a perfect fit. Just watch 'Requiem for a Dream' and you'll know what I'm talking about here.

2. Alex Proyas
Another great director who's known for darkness and subtle imagery and disturbing content (think Episode III). Unfortunately, he went "mainstream" with
'I, Robot', but his track record speaks for itself.

3. Richard Kelly
Young American director who splashed into the spotlight after an impressive debut with 'Donnie Darko'. The sky seems to be the limit with him, and he's currently highly sought after.

I wouldn't expect anything Zahn related either. Too bad. I rather enjoyed Zahn's trilogy. The Force kryptonite thing was a little bogus but most other parts really had the same feeling as the OT (at least they did when I read them at age 13-14). I think Grand Admiral Thrawn, Talon Karde and Mara Jade were among the best developed and most interested EU characters.

Reading that IMDB story (which was a paraphrase of one from TheForce.net) makes me wonder how he plans on having 7,8 & 9 "pick up where Return of the Jedi left off".

Can you say CGI Luke, Leia and Han? wink.gif

Actually, I'm sure Mark Hamill would do it in a heart beat, and he is in decent enough shape to play Luke. Ford would never do it, so I'm sure they'll probably leave him out of it (which would suck so much), and Carrie Fisher, well, even if she wanted to do it, the years haven't exactly been good to her, and Leia, even at 40 or 50, is not supposed to look like her. So maybe they'll just bring back Hamill and show him teaching Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo, and maybe his kid too. It definitely will be hard though, since the characters will be mentioned but probably never seen other than Luke, and that would really not be good. Maybe Billy Dee Williams will make a cameo, he still looks decent enough to play an older Lando, and maybe Denis Lawson aged well enough to still play Wedge (it would be cool if they gave Wedge a bigger part), but other than them, I can't really see anyone else being able to return from the OT.

EDIT: Oh, and as for directors, I think Proyas would be best suited out of all them to make the sequels. I actually thought I, Robot was a very good movie, mainstream yes, but exceedingly enjoyable and thoughtful enough to make my mind happy. But I think I would much rather see an up-and-coming director handle them. You know, someone who would really put his heart into all of the movies, like Lucas did when he originally made Star Wars. Not a big-name guy who's just doing it for the sake of workding on Star Wars, but someone who wants to make his career with the movies, because then we'll probably get much better movies than the prequels.

It's going to alienate me, who enjoyed this terrible series of books taking place after Jedi. I remember the first one had the empire looking for Darth Vader's glove in a submarine for some reason. There was also this annoying kid named Ken who was stupid enough to think that Luke Skywalker flew the Millenium Falcon. They're all probably terrible but are still fond memories.

Not a joke, I would not put that past him. Honestly, after the Hayden in Jedi thing this is the next logical step.

My guess is that these new s tar wars prequels will be a reenaction of a scene from Pulp fiction, with the redneck rapist being played by George Lucas and the part of Marseilles Wallace being played by EVERY DAMNED PERSON WHO GOES TO SEE THE MOVIES. And sadly Bruce Willis will be nowhere in sight...

i hope it doesnt happen. im just talking from a narrative standpoint. what could be accomplished with a new 3 film arc after the last one took 6 to play out, in which everything got resolved??

Actually, I'm sure Mark Hamill would do it in a heart beat, and he is in decent enough shape to play Luke.

Oh, is he? I saw some contemporary pictures of him, and if the poundage means “decent enough shape”, sure as hell he has it. Sorry about it – I used to fancy Mark Hamill and it grieves me to see him gone to seed like that. Somebody in the forum (can’t remember who) suggested that the original trio should make only a cameo appearance in the sequels, and I think it is a good idea. I do not know about Carrie Fisher, haven’t seen her photos, but Harrison Ford is really embarrassing to look at, he has more wrinkles than Jabba has ticks.

And I am sure Mark Hamill would do the Sequels – it would be a chance for him to star in a major movie for a change, rather than doing voice-overs to video games. How did he stoop to that? But perhaps he is justly punished for appearing as a guest star in the Muppet Show.

(Does anyone remember this episode? He wore the outfit from ESB and everyone seemed to have been laughing at it. Sam the Eagle was even writing down the measurements for his tailor. I really did not get this joke. Can anyone tell me what it was all about? What was so funny about Luke’s clothes in ESB?)
