JYAMG- forgive me, i didnt mean to cause offense. i didnt say anyone elses idea was bad, just that its difficult to find a base for argument through comparison because your ideas will (presumably) never be made into a feature film.

QUOTE
Example. Yoda silliness (in OT) vs. Jar Jar Silliness. Which is too much, what is an unacceptable level silliness before it throws Star Wars off kilter.

and i agree to this to an extent, as i mentioned in another thread there were times when JJ went too far and it damaged the reality of the film. but what Lucas did with him in AotC really redeemed the character a lot in my eyes.

ah, i see the "blah blah" bit of my earlier post comes across as quite dismissive and condecending. again, i didnt mean it, and i apologise.

Dismissing an idea on the basis that it cannot be compared to what has been done in the PT because said idea has not been filmed is a bit of a weak argument isn't it? Let me give you a clear and concise written example:

"Jar-Jar jumps 30 feet into the air spinning and howling like a maniac before plunging into the lake."

"Jar-Jar looks back at the Jedi beckoning them along as he slowly submerges into the calm lake."

I don't know about you, but looking at these texts through lenses of, for example, plausibility and atmosphere makes me see a clear winner here. (Oh, and in my version, he is a Mon Calamari... smile.gif ) And this is just the tiniest, little example among the multitude of horrors, large and small, that is the PT.

While I agree about the fact that not everything that sounds good on paper is good on the big screen, the flaws in the PT are so f**king obvious and in-your-face that they CAN be dismissed immediatly in favor of certain fan-fiction.

I may just one day investigate the legalities surrounding Star Wars and see if Lucas doesn't mind if a jaded fan films an alternative prequel trilogy.

And obviously, if Lucas' definitive vision is so damn good, then he wouldn't have to worry about an alternative trilogy damaging his sales now, would he? cool.gif

JYMAG.

I have contemplated the thought of the fans making a completely new version of the trilogy and what it would take to make it happen.

Technically it could be done.

"Technically"................... unsure.gif

The copyright situation is the biggest obstacle!

George Lucas doesn;t care about the fan films because they don't hinder the sales of the prequel movies. None of these fan films look anything like a live action movie. Plus nobody is charging money to see these fan films.

The minute you create anything remotely looking like a live action STAR WARS movie with the Star Wars label and characters......It becomes a copyright problem.

Maybe we could call it something else and hope George doesn't notice... some obscure name like Blue Harvest or something. cool.gif

there was a fan film on the apple QT site a few years back. It was called "Duality" and I thought it was really good. It did look like a live action film to this not yet despondent fan. at the end of the credits some suckup note about "thanks to uncle george for letting us play in his backyard."

I'm sure there'd be plenty of Star Wars fans willing to film the Prequel trilogy for free. Of course, finding good actors, scriptwriters and special-effects people for free would be a different matter.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Lucas will not challenge fan films if they don't challenge him. Basically, anything you make for free and offer for free is fair comment, like a movie review. But if you try to sell it, you're screwed.

Also, you really need to sell a film before it's made, not after, as most indie filmmakers know (notable exceptions otwithstanding, eg BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, CLERKS). So you couldn't make this.

Anyway, what I don't know about copyright law is probably enough to fill all the books out there on the subject. That is, I know nothing, I talk through ass. All said, you find a way to muster up a few million dollars, and I'll gladly work on your film.

AFTER I see the script ... wink.gif
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

It is not always like that, Civ. I heard some time ago that Warner wanted to prosecute all the children who created Harry Potter fas sites.

So, we need to wait 70 years after GL's death untils someone gives us a alternative treatment of SW universe. (Am I correct? I am not sure about copyright laws, I've heard 70 years for books, I suppose for films must be the same).

70 years? Well somebody better crack Lucas in the head and be quick about it then. That's a long enough wait already.

What would be the actual cost to make Star Wars film is a subject of debate. Especially when you consider the accesibility of filmmaking technology over the next 10 or 20 years.

Although it still doesn;t solve the dilemmna of how do you pay for a movie you can't sell.

The only way to make this movie is to actually put it out as a theatrical film or video release. Hence you have to change the names and the title.

What we need is some rich, stupid millionaire, philanthropist.........who is a big time star wars fans.

Another solution.................is to go the ANIMATED PATH!!!!!!!!! wink.gif

The next problem, would be how to temper the wide range of personalities and opinions on this forum to come up with a cohesive idea.

I mean hell, between civilian two and myself..........the creative differences would be enormous. yell.gif wink.gif

Who said I'd ask you guys? If I had the millions to spare and had somehow coerced Lucas into playing square, I'd pen it myself. cool.gif

Course you could ask George Lucas for permission to make the movies.

I think he would agree, don't you???!! smile.gif smile.gif

Or simply pay Lucas of for the copyright.

Which will probably cost more than it will take to make the damn film in the first place. yell.gif

Or maybe file some type of class-action lawsuit by the people on this forum.

Anybody here know of a good reason to sue George Lucas??? biggrin.gif

So you would become another George Lucas then. So self absorbed in your own ideas that you would allow no other dissenting views!!!! ohmy.gif

For shame, jyamg. Going to the darkside. laugh.gif

Easy.... false advertising.

When he retitled Star Wars as Episode IV all those years ago, he was advertising the fact that he would make the prequels sometime in the future... and that these movies would be for us, the guys who got him where he was today.

However, he instead chose to make the prequels for little kids who didn't even know the first thing about Star Wars....

hmmm... sad.gif I guess that probably wouldn't hold up very well.

Does anybody know if you can simply sue somebody for being an asshole?

Well, I heard the dark side now lets you use company cars for your own personal use. Honestly, the employment benefits of this company are amazing. smile.gif
