So...what's the deal? I thought we were supposed to have this thing by now. I mean, maybe I'm alone here, but I'd sort of like to get some of the gaping security holes fixed up sometime soon. Again, maybe I'm alone here...

I heard it's been delayed a bit. They have, however, finally released a patch for IE. Better late than never.

Once again, Kevin Rose has the lowdown:

"As I'm sure most of your have heard, Windows XP SP2 is now Gold and available to MSDN subscribers. Microsoft plans on providing the update to the general public sometime next week. For those of you that don't want to wait, I hear it's available on several P2P / BitTorrent networks. Here is the file info you will need:

File Name:
WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

MD5:
59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7

Size:

Alrighty, I've gone ahead and decided that I'm too impatient to wait for Microsoft to release it for the general public, so I'm currently downloading XP Service Pack 2 off of Suprnova. We'll see what happens.

I know this guy who has a hacked version of Windows XP. Would the security Patch work on his version? Or would it lock his computer up so that he can't play warcraft III and KOTOR?

All it does is patch a number of the security holes in XP. It shouldn't matter whether his version is "hacked" or not.

Has anyone gotten this yet?

Its been messing up my wireless configurations (the passwords for my server never save on the computer thanks to it, so I have to keep entering it over and over to connect)...

What do you think of Explorer blocking pop-ups now? wub.gif

EDIT - Wait, I'm probably the only one who uses Explorer...

I still haven't downloaded it. I've heard some horror stories that are keeping me from going for it.
As for IE blocking popups, I use the Google toolbar when I absolutely HAVE to use IE, so it already blocks 'em.

I would just wait a bit before going with SP2. At least a couple of months until they have released further patches to fix all their previous faulty patches.

I'm not going to download it for awhile either. My computer is to shitty to be hacked. It's like robbing the town wino/rummy.
