I was in a band a little while, and we nailed the Beatles' "and your bird can sing," which was kind of difficult. I'm not a thrash drummer, but I did justice to Led Z's "Ramble On."

and yes, we did several Crowded House songs. (With much prodding on my part.)

I haven't been in a band for some time (three years?), but we did half decent covers of "Summer Holiday Vs. Punk Routine" by Refused, "Rock And Roll" by Led Zeppelin (one version in which the singer just screamed "WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" at the top of his lungs, rather than actually singing), "Everybody Stalking" by Badly Drawn Boy, and "North Dakota" by Thrush Hermit. When I play by myself, just on the drums, I like jamming on Queens Of The Stone Age, Alexisonfire, Thursday, and Refused tracks. Sometimes I venture into Sloan and (International) Noise Conspiracy tunes as well.

I'm playing at this Epiphany Jam next weekend. Playing percussion with a group of singers and musicians (including a drummer.) so I get the fun part. I'll post some pics after the fact. The thunder drum is my featured effect-

(in Shout to the Lord, there's this part where it goes: "the seas shall roar at the sou-ou-ound {thunderclap!} of your Naa-aaa- (swelling cymbal roll) -aaa-ame!...)

But I'm also playing in a duo with a bluegrass bud. he's on mandolin and I'm, get this, on the Tabla. so that will be interesting. Off kilter oriental/bluegrass harmonies. I'm getting chills.

My love is for heavy metal (suits my style, bash the drums very hard and very fast), but I do melodic rock and three-chord punk too. And I've never had anyone teach me, apart from very simple beats when I first started. All the rest has been done by ear. With a week or so of listening, I could play along to 'Master of Puppets', but tell me to do a paradiddle and you've lost me.

I'm playing in a band for a three-day weekend in October, and there's a music workshop in a couple of weeks. I think I've incorporated most everything reasonable for that practice/jam weekend. I assembled the kit earlier tonight.

those V drums are incredible. They have a set at the music store, with headphones. Talk about being taken to another world- almost, or more trantic perhaps than dance dance revolution.

I played on some v-drums last week at a Guitar Center opening event. LOUD! FUN! Four or five KICK ass drummers on kits keeping the place grooving. And a world-beat area, plus guys handing out sticks in the cymbal room.



I hope Janey sees this. I finally approached the three mallet grip concept this evening. In this position it plays three notes of a chord, similarly to the way those chalkboard thingies that draw numerous parellel lines. I suppose I'll transfer to my left hand


The electronic keyboard is coming along, and I can play simple stuff with two hands now. Yes, I'm in disbelief. So I've been warming up for the xylo. Homer playing a couple of weeks ago was a nice touch.
