One big oversight...I think Jedi wardrobe

Is it just me or are there some problems with thte way Jedi dress in the prequals?
Wasn't Obi-Wan hiding out in the desert in ANH? Presumably he wouldn't wear his Jedi clothes if you wanted people to think he was a local. He would wear local duds like some of the people we see in the cantina. Desert attire that loose fitting and shades your skin from the harsh sun. When Luke becomes a Jedi in ROTJ, he wears a black outfit reminiscent or a priest. Presumably a Jedi-type outfit.

Why then do Jedi in Episodes I and II wear Tatooine style robes?
Did Lucas forget why Obi-Wan was dressed like that in the first place? And why would the Jedi dress like that anyhow? It is silly compared to the other clothes of the planet.

Maybe I am missing something, but it just doesn't seem right.

End rant.

The Jedi wear drab simple attire because they're supposed to shun money and grandure. Obi Wans robes are, to the best of my knowledge, regulation Jedi robes. This is because the empire cannot touch Tatooine since it's owned by the Hutts so Obi Wan is ok and everyone seems to know what he used to be. I'm rather surprised that Lucas managed to keep at least that shred of dignity and not have Jedi in face paint and frilly dresses.

I quite like the simple robes worn by the Jedi. As J m says, at least Lucas avoided doing a Queen Amidala on them. It's never stated that Luke's clothes are a Jedi outfit - I would have thought he just wore what he could find, given that the Jedi Order no longer existed.

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

So, Uncle Owen is a Jedi, too, then... he wears the same exact damn clothes!

And the guy they sold the speeder to, too....boy, things HAVE been rough for the Jedi!

This is true. However, this is one of the few things about the Prequels I can live with. I still like the clothes.

I could have lived with the clothes if the story of concepts of the PT were better, and that's my feeling about many things. I could've lived with CGI effects if the story had been better, I could've lived with the less-than-inspired ship designs if the characters were more true, I could have lived with the stupid names like 'Naboo' and 'Dooku' and 'Padme' and 'Jango' if the PT had tied closer to the OT....

Okay, maybe I could've lived without the name 'Dooku'...

I do see your point, but on a scale of PT annoyances with Jar Jar Binks, elected queens and Anakin Skywalker at the top, I think the Jedi robes come pretty near the bottom. That's given me an idea for a poll...

Regarding clothing that was used in ANH, Lucas said in the Malten interview that it was to represent the brown tones of that desert planet. So that would contradict use of said robes on Coruscant, right?

Seeing Luke's appearance in JEDI made me think of the anikan robes of recent days. So, does this prove brilliant foresight, or is it a self-fulfilling prophecy?
