The bots have taken over the forums. They need to be brought to justice, or just killed on sight.

Yeah I perma-ban every one I see but it's like Space Invaders man.

Problem is it was easier to do and more worthwhile when there was a lot of activity. Then more mods would be tackling them (there were fewer bots though, to be sure). Now sometimes I just log in to ban new members.

I think I may set fire to the town and poison all the wells. May be the smart thing to do.

Yeah it's either end it altogether or go to a manual approval system, but that puts more work on the admin, and for what? So that one genuine new member per year might join, get bored, and leave? Too many cool people have stopped reading and posting here, and it's just down to us losers. Oh, and Chef's great food blog, but I suppose we could read that elsewhere.

Aww drat, I'm away for a couple weeks (in the throes of a World of Darkness campaign and my laptop's hard drive went kablooie) and there's talk of closure.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.

Man, this was the first forum I ever joined. It kicked off the following 3 years of crippling internet addiction. Even though I only remember to check in here every few months, mostly out of nostalgia, I will miss it.

Good night sweet prince. :'(

But what about Jon Gutner's Milk Bar? I don't know what I'd do if it went away.

I've been here since day one, I migrated from the L&E forums. I was here long enough to recall such debates as "is chefelf.com stealing thunder from L&E boards". I've been in this community for almost a decade. Sure, I don't post that much any more, but only because I've aged and went over my old posts and gone red in the face over grammar and content. I maybe one of the few that read almost all of chefs postings, even his archived blog when he lived in sketchy pads and was single. Any how, if the wells are poisoned, I will be sad. I still read peoples postings here, even if I don't contribute. There have been some great/hilarious debates over the past year, all worth reading from start to finish. The homosexual supremacy thread is just one of the latest top notch offerings Night Life goers pride themselves on.

I guess most of this place has served its time. I vote for retiring most of the sub-forums by archiving them or putting them in the graveyard or what have you, and only keep one general place for the nostalgic banter thing that we've still got going on here. Just to decrease the target-range for those spambots, there are way too many old topics out there just waiting to be necrospammed by them, it's always a pain sorting through those.

Could we perhaps concentrate the forums into one all purpose general area? That way theres only one location to moderate and, god willing, it'll actually get some decent, non-bot traffic. Redirect all other forums there, and lock/archive the other forums after the redirect. Also, you know, there are people here that probably still bare some affection for this place, and I'm sure they'd be happy to step up to start policing the common area a bit. I still believe in these forums, and the cool people I met here.

Looks like chef has come up with a solution. No new members. I guess this means Deucaon won't be able to create a new ego, so if he ever returns after JM's public outing, it'd be in a familiar form.

Well, if this is the only solution at the moment, I'm down with it. I'm a bit upset that Deuacon won't be able to come back again. Can we secure his IP for unlimited access? I suppose there is a chance these bots will stop attacking the site if we restrict membership for a period.

Chefelf has sealed us all in here, and Civ seems to think that that might keep Deucaon's sock puppets out... But as we look around at all the sealed entry ways and at eachother, we have to realize... it also keeps us in... and one of us COULD ALREADY BE DEUCAON, OR HAVE HIS TROLL EGGS GESTATING IN OUR THORAX!!!!1111 :shifty: :shifty: that'd make a pretty decent movie.

Also, for the record, I didn't really out him, he told everyone on FR that he was actually every troll we've ever had except one or two guys, and then figured no one else would look in FR to find out what was up..

Jordan - I think I miss Hanny more, maybe he'll pop by in order to troll when the re-released and re-re-re-releases show up. Want to take bets on who will shoot first THIS time?

Well looks like I'm screwed next time I forget literally everything about this account other than the fact it exists. Still it's good of chefelf to continue paying the hosting costs just for the sake of the handfull of people who still come here.
