Iraqi sovereignty won't extend online
Sunday, June 27, 2004

(AP) -- When an interim government takes over from the U.S.-led occupation next week, Iraq will regain its place among the world's sovereign nations -- except on the Internet.

More than 240 places have their own two-letter Internet country codes, from ".ac" for Ascension Island to ".zw" for Zimbabwe. There's even ".ps" for the Palestinian territories.

But the domain assigned to Iraq, ".iq," is stuck in a strange bureaucratic limbo -- the company that had administered it is under U.S. criminal indictment -- and could remain there for months.

As a result, if Iraq's government, national institutions or regular Iraqis want a Web site, they need to use international domains, such as ".com," ".org" or ".net", which are maintained in the United States.

All that fighting and killing, and we can't even liberate their domain names. What a shame.

"German politicians tell men to have more sex
Conservatives warn of being labeled ‘limp’ abroad
Updated: 9:34 a.m. ET June 25, 2004BERLIN - Conservative politicians are urging German men to have more sex to boost birth rates or risk being labeled “limp” abroad, a newspaper reported on Friday.

advertisement

Johannes Singhammer, a member of parliament and father of six, said Germany’s aging population needed to produce more offspring to sustain its overstretched pensions system."

Now THAT should have been the story for today, although I really can't imagine anyone calling a german man limp, especially a french guy.

There was also a story somewhere where the Palestinian resistance tunneled under an Israeli military base and blew it up. Really, whether you support Al Intifadah or not you gotta give em credit for copying moves from "Hogan's Heroes"

I think that catchphrase has a lot more potential than just signatures. This very moment, President Bush is probably in his bedroom, rehearsing for his next commerical shoot, chanting: "I'm George Bush, I approved this ad, and there's not a bloody thing the King of Sweden can do about it."

Anyway, I doubt Iraq will get its own two-letter code, because .iq makes them look smart. And we can't have those guys feeling too good about themselves. Keep their self-esteem low and they'll take anything you give 'em.

Please, PLEASE tell me you did not just say that. At least make some indication to the fact that you were not being serious.

Once we crush their spirits, we can bring back slavery, as suggested by the Density Church. Hallelujah!

(Is that enough of an indication that I'm not serious?)

Capital idea! And we can probably rent out some of our Iraqi slaves to German women to solve their population problem.

Well Bush does for one thing. Americans have no taste for Genocide these days but the nazis did a bang up job of it. If Bush recruited a load of them into his armies of darkness we'd have this whole Iraq business wrapped up in a neat little mass grave.
