I am an asexual. As such, people like to tell me that I don't exist, nor does any other asexual. Some also prefer to say that anyone who identifies as asexual must be either sexually repressed or brain-damaged and incapable of emotion, like some sort of naturally occurring Cyberman. In response, I've decided to unleash a libido-destroying virus upon the world make a list of "Awesome Asexuals" that I can put on my wall and point at so people will shut up about the whole thing. It may or may not include pictures.

Now Yahtzee has sorta-kinda maybe identified himself as an asexual, but I'd like confirmation of the fact. I would ask for confirmation of sufficient awesomeness as well, but I suppose writing the Chzo Mythos games qualifies. (Speaking of which, might Trilby also meet the criteria? Maybe? Please?)

Also, if anyone can name another sentient being, real or imagined, who is both awesome and entirely uninterested in sex, let me know.

Yahtzee sounds more like a big dork after being shot down right now. Far as I know, asexual people don't get a boner when presented with the right kind of gift, so if you want to make sure - you know what to do.

... I am.

I think.

I guess I love the idea and I want to say that I am, but as I still feel like I'm really young I'm not quite sure. (Mostly I don't want to be all OH YEAH I AM and then a year later go WHOOPS I LIED) But for the moment, I am.

Yay?

I don't think you can really consider yourself asexual until you've tried everything that may cause you to be aroused.

Try murder, causing car accidents, Bestiality, eating a significant amount of dairy, meat, or fruit, Base jumping, Feng Shui, farming, bull riding, carpeting, texting, or holding your breath til you pass out.

These may help, until you've completed these I'll be inclined to believe you're just jumping to conclusions.

She claimed to be as much, yes. And Coby jumped on that bandwagon too, if memory serves me right

Edit: Ghello, you're a good man. Keep on rocking.

It's a pity you've only just come along now, because unfortunately I'm going to stop being asexual at the end of this sentence, and we could have been best buddies.

Right, where are the boobies at?

I don't know, most people around me who claim to be asexual are merely trying to cover the real reasons why they haven't been in a relationship for years, or they're merely attempting to justify this fact this way.

It sounds like you're being overly cynical. If someone is actually insecure enough to change their sexual orientation on the basis of saving face, what gives you the right to judge them? What makes you think their professing of asexuality is a symptom of their lack of relationships and not the reverse?

And how many people around you, exactly, claim to be asexual? I'd never even heard of the concept before this thread appeared.

This is actually why I'm not sure if I am or not and why I'm holding out on saying something (off of the internet, anyway) until I'm sure. It's possibly just a phase I'm going through where I think sex is gross. In any case, I'm rather young, and I figure that I've got time to figure it out.

And David, I don't know about your friends but I personally don't want a romantic relationship right now. It's not that I am unlovable and no one wants to date me (granted I don't have guys falling all over me, but I've been asked out before) it's just that I don't want to persue something like that at this time. I'd rather just spend time with my friends without having to worry about dating.

If that makes sense.

tl;dr I AM TALKING ABOUT MYSELF LOL

I seriously doubt anyone who identifies as asexual is just making up an excuse for not having a relationship if they want to be in one. It's too difficult to be asexual in our society for anyone to want to fake it. Everyone either thinks you have some sort of mental problem, or tells you that you just haven't found the right person/fetish/environment/horrifying Japanese porn film yet. Thanks for sticking up for asexuals even though you've never heard of asexuality before.

Arien, nice to meet you. I'm sure you are awesome, but until you're sure you're asexual I'm not sure I can put you on the list. You shouldn't feel like you have to label yourself or be one thing throughout your whole life though, IMO. I'm pretty sure I'm stuck in no-sex-please mode for life, but that's just me.

I have no idea who Coby or Janey are.

Three, and it's the fact that they've been whining about going to a nunnery (fairly common symptom of sexual dissatisfaction) and other such nonsense along with proclaiming asexuality since their last relationship, so excuse me if I'm having trouble taking these people seriously.

Also, Kirel, you're suffering from a serious case of unwarranted self-importance. Get treated ASAP.

Unwarranted self-importance?
...Eh. I don't see it, but why not? It's not like anyone else is going to think I'm important.

Okay, as newly self-proclaimed MOST IMPORTANT PERSON EVER I have this to say;

"Proclaiming asexuality since their last relationship" does sound a little suspicious to me, since it implies all of your friends were in relationships (I assume sexual ones) before "proclaiming" asexuality. You don't decide to be asexual. You decide to be celibate, which is when you have sexual feelings but don't act on them. (I never really understood celibacy either, as it seems to me that if you want sex and you're responsible about it then in this day and age there shouldn't be any good reason not to have it. There's certainly no shortage of potential partners.) Asexuality is when you don't feel any reason or need, beyond social pressure, to be in a sexual relationship in the first place. Then again, maybe your friends were pressured into it. Maybe they felt like having a relationship was something they were supposed to do, like they would be freaks otherwise. I can't judge.

If anyone honestly wants to hear me blather on about my asexuality, or argue with me about it, let me know and we can send e-mails or something. People who want to know more about asexuality in general can try the AVEN community, although it's far from perfect and its definition of asexuality is, in my opinion, flawed. (I think that if you enjoy any kind of sexual action or behavior, you're sexual. *shrug*)

In more on-topic news, I have come to the conclusion that Trilby does not qualify, as there appear to be references to him having romantic feelings for the BBC reporter. Alas. However, most of the Doctor's incarnations from Doctor Who do seem to be asexual. 1, 9 and 10 don't match up though. =( (8 doesn't count. Ever. For anything.)
