Chefelf and I had this discussion earlier, and it seemed suitable to post here. The new Mozilla engine, frankly, is crap. I've had a slew of problems accessing this message board since it was updated, and Chef said that he had some problems of his own. My question: "Wha' happen!?" Mere months ago, I posted a topic claiming that I had finally switched to Mozilla, and it was rocking my world, and now I've made the move to Opera, after removing all of Mozilla's content from my computer.
It is a sad day for the open source movement, I think. I only hope that these problems are the result of the engine simply being too new, and not smoothed out enough yet. Hopefully someday the might of Mozilla will be felt once again.

I don't know what to say to that, since I've never used Opera, but I installed the complete Mozilla (I was using Firefox a couple of months ago on a different computer) and I've had few problems. Admittedly, Firefox did seem sleeker and faster in general, but I haven't had Mozilla perform an "illegal operation" yet.

I think I'll mention that they just released a patch for a security issue on Mozilla. This page doesn't explain what the problem was, and I'm too lazy to have looked it up.

Have you tried Firefox? I think Opera is the best browser out right now but I know a lot of people like freeware so if I had to pick another one I'd go with Firefox.

Chefelf used Firefox, and he was having the same problems that I was. Since all of Mozilla's browser's run off of the same engine, you're going to have the same problems with them all.
Another problem that I had was with my bank's website. While Mozilla was installed, it WOULD NOT allow me to login, and was telling me that I had disabled cookies. They weren't disabled. Once I uninstalled Mozilla and switched over to Opera, the bank website started working again.

Yeah. There was a lengthy thread about this on another site I frequent, Xbox-Scene.com. mrRobinson and myself are both moderators there.

I had a lot of issues with the 0.9rc and 0.9final release of Firefox. I have been pretty unimpressed. While I really like the browser in principal I am unhappy with the steps it has taken. The user "vidgms4me" makes some interesting points in that link I posted.

One thing to note is that neither Firefox nor Opera seems to correctly handle this message board software. IE will allow you to block text and then select the tag to create tags. Probably a problem with the software more than the browser but it sure is handy in IE to be able to do that.

Opera 7.52 out today, fixes:
Security
Fixed a URI obfuscation weakness enabling impersonation of legitimate web sites. Illegal characters in addresses will be stripped. This addresses Security Focus Bugtraq ID #10517.
Solved frame injection vulnerability that allowed for spoofing (Secunia Advisory SA11978).
Solved certificate verification problem.

Miscellaneous
Changed search.ini to ensure correct default dictionary and encyclopedia searches. On how to protect customized files from being overwritten, see Release Note.
Changed main toolbar. Now includes options Open, Save, Print, Find, Home, Panels, Tile, and Cascade.
Various stability and rendering improvements.
"Show in" submenu for messages now has nested display of nested filters.
Corrected message reply behavior when View > Encoding is set to autodetect.
Fixed SSL renegotiation problem causing login trouble on certain secure sites.
Solved issue concerning JavaScript method "confirm()".
Various encoding-related improvements to accommodate Japanese language version.


I always love the "Various stability and rendering improvements" fix... it seems to be in every build

I downloaded Opera after having too many problems with Mozilla too suddenly.

Opera runs smoothly for the most part, but here are some obligatory gripes:

• Autocomplete ranks pages in alphabetical order instead of frequency visited
• It's pretty easy to accidentally make mouse gestures

I like how new pages open in new tabs instead of totally new windows.

Yeah, I'm currently loving Opera. The tabbed browsing is so much smoother than in Mozilla.
