QUOTE (HMC @ Oct 9 2008, 03:33 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
This is pretty cool. I like the lineart. However, I think there's more that can be done in the way of adding realism and ambiance, and using far fewer colors at that. If I might be so bold:

Wow. The colour scheme is amazing, but to me, the texture of his face looks more like a woodcarving than skin. On the other hand, the facial expression is a lot better than that of mine, and the fact you used about a hundredth of the colours I used to achieve a much better effect astounds me.

Excuse me for a second, I have to be off to re-evaluate my worth as a human being.

I'd love to see a game set on a giant Cruiser like Titanic or something with a cult of black-terrorist-satanic-murderers that go on a killing spree, only to find that another cult of KKK-bible-bashing(excuse the offense)-black guy murderers have been killing off all the members of the black cult. Then its an all-out war over the cruiser of White vs. Black, Nudity, Obscenity, Fuck words, sex scenes, drug use, alcohol consumption and Satire jokes throughout the game.

Suck on that Jack Thompson.

(by the way, that spriting is great. I think Spann, David and HMC working together could create one awesome game)
I pooped a hammer. I pooped a cornish game hen.

Your use of the words 'Jack Thompson' offended me, sir. I would like you to fix it!

I think both images have worth, David. Your original image reminds me of the Blackwell series, in a good way. Don't stop your work because somebody somewhere has more experience with a more limited palette.

That's a fair point. I guess it's all a matter of preference. There's a lot of different things you can do:

Just keep in mind that there's no such thing as 'skin color'. Skin is a buffet of colors, of varying hues and shades and intensities. It's semi-translucent, and there's blood underneath it, and any wealth of light sources could be shining on it. Just keep that in mind, and make sure you're applying a good amount of contrast.

Also, while I'm at it, here's the issue with your mansion:

Well, slap me down and call me George W. Bush. This is a bucket of awesome. I was planning to apply a contrast and a... y'know, blueness layer on it and editing them after I'd finished the rest of the picture, but this is amazing.

(Methinks I'll be bothering HMC a lot for advice in the future.)
