Abbey . . . will you marry me? biggrin.gif

While I believe Batman to be the ultimate hero, I do like Supes. He's not a bad character, just an extremely difficult character to get right. How do you write for, and then in turn, portray the ultimate boy scout? The "perfectly moral" man? It's not an easy task. Especially when Hollywood wants to try and give him flaws, which he does not have, thus making him a super man. The conflict in Superman is the fact that he has to constantly be the boy scout. He has to make the "right" decision all the time. Think of the pressure. What if he makes the wrong choice? What if he could've done something differently? What if? That is Superman's ultimate conflict. His own good nature can be his downfall. As flawed a film as Superman II is, they got that right. There's the scene where Zod and his comrades realize that Superman cares for the pitiful humans and they start to use them against him. It's perfect. But to try and give Supes an "emo" complex ala Superman Returns... well, that's just not Superman. That's Spider-man.

Anyway, hope all are well. My semester is winding down, but my Christmas break hasn't even begun. I'm stage managing a show over the break and will have 5 whole days to myself over "vacation," two of which will be spent moving into my new apartment.

And Abbey... seriously... marry me? biggrin.gif

k i totally got the whole emo jab at spidey
but where in superman's return does he go all emo.
i saw it twice but i must 've missed that completely.

My only problem with the flick is i
t ran a little long for the story
and his costume was WAAAAY to tight in an area.

Superman is dull and boring and has no drive beyond being a fucking boy scout.
Boring.

They actually gave him something to pine for, desire and then a large block of rocks all around it making it unreachable for him, unless Cyclops dies. That's just good story writing, I didn't care much for the kid, beyond that he looked like my ex's youngest brother (my prettiest ex that is) who's like a Superchild in on his own.

Please... do not see Superman Returns.

I garauntee you'll want to walk out after the first hour and a half or so.

More coming soon.

first hour and a 1/2,..most films are pretty much done by that time...i can usually tell if a film will be good or not in the 1st 30 minutes,.sometimes less,..depends on the genre, actors, type of film.

I hear the sequel has been put on a back burner while Warner Brothers focuses on doing a live action Justice League America film, which would pair Superman with Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter. Australian director George Miller (Mad Max trilogy, Happy Feet) is set to direct. Brandon Routh and Christian Bale will not be reprising their roles of Superman & Batman respectively (a shame about Bale, good riddance to Routh).

With Smallville's Tom Welling playing Supes. That's one rumor, but is it really going to be live action? I thought they were going the Polar Express route.

What ever the case
the Poplar Express route
would possibly be safer than
live action.

They can't use Tom Welling
it would be way to weird the would have to end
Smallville for it to work.

Plus they'd probably have to use
Justin Hartley(Green Arrow), Erica Durance(Lois Lane),
Laura Vanderhoot(Supergirl) as well as Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor)
and anyboy else from the show to keep the feel of continuity

No you suck ass laugh.gif

Oh just kidding .....but Gobblyis right!
Granted, i don't own both versions but i do like a lot of the movie
and i thought Kevin Spacey did a good job as Lex

though you know a sequel to this would be all
the more confusing as far as Superkid goes
maybe they should introduce SuperGirl a la Smallville
