This is my Revised Seventh Draft of my screenplay rewrite of Star Wars Episode II. It is titled ‘Clone Wars’. If you haven’t already done so, I would strongly suggest reading my full screenplay rewrite of Episode I before reading this. There are a lot of plot points and revelations that come to fruition in this story from Episode I. I would suggest that my vision for the Star Wars prequels is far different to that of George Lucas, but my chief aim was to rewrite these to my own satisfaction, which means consistent with the Original Trilogy. Please read it and tell me what you think. Again, I must stress that all criticism of dialogue, plot, and characterisation is welcome, but DO NOT CRITICISE THE ENDEAVOUR ITSELF. If you hate fan-fiction on principle, then reading this is not going to change that, nor is criticising the endeavour going to stop me. I have finished re-writing Episodes I and II, and I’m halfway through Episode III, why the hell would I stop now? However, if you hated George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels, this may resolve the story in your own mind and give you some satisfaction.

1 EXT SPACE

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

A vast sea of stars serves as the backdrop for the Main Title, followed by a rollup, which crawls into infinity.

The Republic is in tatters. The galaxy is on the brink of war as tensions rise between loyalists and separatists.

The Galactic Senate is gripped with panic as the Jedi Knights struggle to maintain peace in the galaxy. Systems secede for fear of retribution as Grievous’ clone armies swell in numbers. With the Mandalorian presence all but wiped out, the Confederacy turns it attention towards the Republic.

In a bid to unify and strengthen the Republic, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine has moved the Senate to increase its military expenditure. Ever vigilant, loyalist forces lie in wait on the Republic border…

PAN DOWN to reveal fleets of REPUBLIC CRUISERS, NEBULON-A FRIGATES, and ASSAULT GUNBOATS cruising in stasis.

2 EXT CORELLIA/CHANDRILLA/KASHYYYK/MON CALAMARI/SULLUST/ITHOR – MONTAGE

BATTALIONS of REPUBLIC SOLDIERS have been deployed on the outer systems of the Republic to defend its borders from the growing Separatist threat.

3 EXT DANTOOINE – GRASSLANDS – PATROL TOWER – AFTERNOON

AT-WALKER VARIANTS patrol the grasslands of Dantooine. A REPUBLIC OFFICER looks out with his electrobinoculars from the patrol tower.

4 INT CORUSCANT – JEDI TEMPLE – MEDITATION CHAMBER – NIGHT

OBI-WAN and ANAKIN are training in the Meditation Chamber. ANAKIN uses the Force to lift large objects in the room, but he momentarily loses concentration and drops everything.

ANAKIN
Wha–?!

OBI-WAN
How many times have I told you, Anakin? Control. You must learn control…What’s wrong?

ANAKIN
Padmé’s in danger.

ANAKIN and OBI-WAN run out of the chamber.

5 INT CORUSCANT – PADMÉ’S APARTMENT – NIGHT

ANAKIN runs into the chamber, drags Padmé out of bed.

PADMÉ
(groggy)
Anakin…what are you doing?

ANAKIN runs, carrying Padmé, and OBI-WAN follows.

ANAKIN
Ugh!

They jump as the chamber EXPLODES behind them. The explosion floors Anakin, and he lands on his back. PADMÉ lands straddled on Anakin, creating an awkward situation. OBI-WAN hits the wall on the other side of the corridor. He observes Anakin and Padmé’s embarrassing situation. PADMÉ and ANAKIN stare at each other for a few seconds until they realise their embarrassment. PADMÉ rolls away from Anakin

PADMÉ
(still groggy)
Anakin…what is going on?

ANAKIN
(in between breaths)
I think…someone…is trying…to kill you.

REPUBLIC OFFICERS rush in to attend to the Queen, and to clean up the area.

6 INT CORUSCANT – CHANCELLOR’S CHAMBERS – DAY

SUPREME CHANCELLOR PALPATINE sits in his chair, gazing out the window at the cityscape, until OBI-WAN, ANAKIN, and QUEEN AMIDALA enter his bureau. PALPATINE swivels his chair around, and rises to greet them.

PALPATINE
Your Highness! Thank goodness you’re still alive…And Anakin, I am eternally grateful for your swift and heroic action.

OBI-WAN, ANAKIN, and QUEEN AMIDALA exchange bows with PALPATINE.

ANAKIN
(clearing his throat)
It was no problem, really.

PALPATINE sits down behind his desk again and gestures towards the seats in front of him.

PALPATINE
Please, take a seat. We have a great deal to discuss.

OBI-WAN, ANAKIN, and QUEEN AMIDALA sit down.

OBI-WAN
Do you have any intelligence on who may be behind this attack?

PALPATINE
The attack was no doubt perpetrated by one of General Grievous’ assassins.

OBI-WAN
But why would Grievous still consider the Queen to be a threat?

PALPATINE
The Queen remains the recognised leader of Onderon, and as long as she remains so, Onderon is officially a Republican system…She is a symbol of the Republic, and Grievous would love nothing more than to completely sever Onderon’s ties with the Republic…You must understand the seriousness of the situation. This is an act of war. I suggest that the Queen be taken to another system to lay low for a while, until the danger subsides…with a Jedi protector, yes. Anakin would be perfect for the job.

OBI-WAN
Thank you for your advice, Chancellor, but the decision will ultimately lie with the Council.

PALPATINE
(looking at Anakin)
Yes, of course. I am confident they will make a wise decision…

AMIDALA
And what say do I have in this?! This will take me away from my Senate meetings!

PALPATINE
I know this is difficult for you, your Highness, but you must understand that your safety is our primary concern at this time. I will be delivering an ultimatum to General Grievous in the next session of the Senate tomorrow. For your own safety, he cannot know that you are still alive.

AMIDALA
I know. You are right. But who will take my place in the Senate?

PALPATINE
You *could* delegate one of the regional governors…perhaps Governor Tarkin is suitable for the task…

AMIDALA
I trust in your judgement, Chancellor.

PALPATINE
Then the matter is settled. I will contact the governor immediately. Assuming he accepts the responsibility, you may confer with him via comlink at any time, but you must be discreet.

AMIDALA
I understand. Thank you for your counsel, Chancellor.

QUEEN AMIDALA, ANAKIN, and OBI-WAN rise.

PALPATINE
As long as you are safe, your Highness.

OBI-WAN
(bowing)
Thank you, Chancellor.

QUEEN AMIDALA, ANAKIN, and OBI-WAN leave the chamber.

7 INT CORUSCANT – JEDI TEMPLE – COUNCIL CHAMBERS – DAY

OBI-WAN and ANAKIN stand before the Jedi Council.

MACE
How did the meeting go?

OBI-WAN
They believe the attack was perpetrated by one of Grievous’ assassins. The Chancellor recommends that the Queen be assigned a Jedi Guardian and taken to another system until the danger subsides.

KI-ADI
I agree. The Queen must be protected at all costs.

OBI-WAN
The Chancellor recommended Anakin in particular.

MACE
Hmmm…They are friends, and Anakin had the initial premonition of her danger. All in favour?

YODA
I agree.

MACE
Then it is settled. Anakin, you will take the Queen to Alderaan and remain there until notified.

ANAKIN
Yes, Master.

MACE
Obi-wan, you will go to the moon of Dxun to investigate the disappearance of a group of Jedi Knights.

OBI-WAN
What were Jedi doing on Dxun?

MACE
Master Sifo-Dyas led a group of Jedi Knights to fight the Mandalorians against the will of the Council…It was later we discovered that a Separatist clone army had already landed for an invasion. The Mandalorians were all but wiped out, and the Jedi have not since returned. We fear the worst.

YODA
Yes…the Dark Side we sense.

OBI-WAN
Very well. I will go to Dxun.

KI-ADI
May the Force be with you both.

8 INT/EXT CORUSCANT – JEDI TEMPLE – CORRIDOR/DOCKING BAY – DAY

OBI-WAN and ANAKIN walk through the Temple corridor towards the docking bay. OBI-WAN looks at Anakin for a while and smiles. ANAKIN looks back at Obi-wan suspiciously.

ANAKIN
What?

OBI-WAN
What? Aren’t I allowed to smile?

ANAKIN
(smirking)
That all depends…on what you’re smiling about…

OBI-WAN
(as if he’s reciting poetry)
Your first mission alone…You’ve grown so much.

ANAKIN
Ah! Knock it off!

ANAKIN pauses for a moment, then turns towards Obi-wan again.

ANAKIN
(pointing at Obi-wan, jokingly)
I know, you don’t think I can take care of myself!

OBI-WAN
No, it’s Padmé I’m worried about!

ANAKIN looks slightly annoyed.

OBI-WAN
I’m only kidding!

OBI-WAN places his hands on Anakin’s shoulders.

OBI-WAN
I trust you, Anakin. Even with my own life if I had to…but don’t do anything unless the Council instructs you.

ANAKIN
Yes, Master.

OBI-WAN
May the Force be with you.

ANAKIN
May the Force be with you too, Obi-wan.

ANAKIN and OBI-WAN turn away from each other and walk their separate ways.

OBI-WAN
(turning back around)
Anakin!

ANAKIN stops and rolls his eyes back.

ANAKIN
(turning about-face)
What now?!

OBI-WAN
Take care.

ANAKIN
(smiling, shooing him off)
Alright, alright. Get out of here, you’ve got a mission to accomplish!

OBI-WAN finally boards his fighter and sets course for Dxun.

9 INT CORUSCANT – GALACTIC SENATE

SUPREME CHANCELLOR PALPATINE stands before the HOLOSCREEN IMAGE of GENERAL GRIEVOUS. Hundreds of SENATORS look on.

PALPATINE
Today, the Republic presents you with a choice.

GRIEVOUS
Oh, how generous of you all…

PALPATINE
Stand down. Or be forcibly removed.

GRIEVOUS
Ha! Some choice! The same thing in different packages. Very clever. Tell me, Chancellor. You didn’t honestly expect me to choose between the two, did you? Very well. You back me into a corner and I’ll burrow through you. Be warned. A landing on Onderon’s soil will be interpreted as an act of war against the Confederacy of Independent Systems!

A RABBLE rouses in the Senate, then dies down again.

PALPATINE
Have no illusions, Grievous. It is your treachery that has brought this upon your house!

GRIEVOUS
Ha! Tell that to the galaxy when war is on their doorstep!

The holo-screen FIZZLES out. A RABBLE rouses in the Senate.

MAS AMEDDA
Order! Order!!

CHANCELLOR PALPATINE turns around to face the Senate.

PALPATINE
Mark my words, General Grievous will be brought to justice, and the throne returned to Queen Amidala. The people of Onderon will be liberated! It is with this resolve that I motion for military action in Onderon!

The SENATORS rise to applaud his decision.

10 EXT/INT SPACE – REPUBLIC TRANSPORT – COCKPIT

ANAKIN pilots the REPUBLIC TRANSPORT, while PADMÉ sits behind him.

PADMÉ
How did you know there was a bomb in there?

ANAKIN
I didn’t. I just had a vision that you were in danger.

PADMÉ
A vision…do you have these visions often?

ANAKIN
Not since I left home…

PADMÉ
You mean, you weren’t born on Coruscant?

ANAKIN
(sitting up in his chair, laughing)
What, you think every Jedi is from Coruscant?! Did that tiara cut off the circulation to your head or something?

PADMÉ
(hitting Anakin on the arm)
Hey!

ANAKIN
I was only kidding! I was born on Tatooine…

PADMÉ
Tatooine…I’ve never heard of that place before…what’s it like?

ANAKIN
What is this anyway, a job interview?

PADMÉ
No! I just want to know…

ANAKIN
Well, there’s sand and then there’s sand…yep, sand, that’s about it.

PADMÉ
Come on, there must be more to it than that. Do you miss it?

ANAKIN
Sometimes. But there are some parts that I definitely don’t miss.

PADMÉ
Like what?

ANAKIN
Like the Hutts and all their ruffians. They run the whole show down there. And then there’s the sand-people. You’d be lucky to come back in one piece wandering out in the desert.

PADMÉ
Sounds like a rough place. What about your family? You must miss them, surely.

ANAKIN
I missed them long before I left home…I never knew my father, and my mother was captured by slave-traders years ago.

PADMÉ
That’s awful!

ANAKIN
It’s just as well, I suppose. Jedi aren’t supposed to have attachments…

PADMÉ
How can you say that? Does that mean you’re not allowed to love?

ANAKIN
The Jedi are sworn to act out of compassion, but attachment is frowned upon by the Order.

PADMÉ
That must be a difficult thing to do…Do you know where the slave-traders took your mother?

ANAKIN
No. But I will find her. One day.

11 INT SECLUDED MOON – SPACE STATION

GENERAL GRIEVOUS holds a meeting with the SEPARATIST LEADERS. They sit at a table across from each other. PROBE DROIDS hurry about, translating and transferring documents into their data pads.

GRIEVOUS
What is your progress?

DURO
(in Duran)
Our facilities are fully operational and our troop production is on schedule.

GRIEVOUS
Excellent. The time is drawing near, my friends. The Republic intends to invade Onderon very soon.

RODIAN
(in Rodian)
That would be an act of war!

TWI’LEK
(in Twi’lek)
Yes, indeed!

GRIEVOUS
We will deploy our armies on all fronts upon their landing. They do not have the capacity to defend themselves during the attack.

12 EXT SECLUDED MOON – GRIEVOUS’ QUARTERS

GENERAL GRIEVOUS walks into his quarters and kneels before the holotransmitter. A HOLOGRAM of DARTH SIDIOUS appears.

GRIEVOUS
Our forces are prepared for the counter-attack, milord.

SIDIOUS
Good…Everything is going to plan. Now, we must wait…

GRIEVOUS
Yes, Lord Sidious. Will you be aiding us?

SIDIOUS
My apprentice has…other engagements. He will be joining you shortly.

13 EXT DXUN – MANDALORIAN RUINS – TWILIGHT

OBI-WAN lands his JEDI STARFIGHTER safely in the smouldering ruins of the Mandalorian Base Camp. OBI-WAN climbs out of the cockpit and sends TWO PROBE DROIDS out to search the ruins. OBI-WAN looks around the ruins. The remains of countless Mandalorian warriors and clone soldiers are strewn across the camp. Smoke rises from the burning grasslands, ruined BASILISKS, and collapsing structures. He enters a room with a telemetry computer in it.

OBI-WAN
Display all departures and arrivals within the last standard year…The Slave One…Kamino? Wait a minute, go back…another ship…yesterday…

OBI-WAN searches the ruins again, and follows a large group of tracks leading outside the camp.

14 EXT ONDERON – PLAINS – DAY

REPUBLIC DROPSHIPS land outside of Iziz’s city walls. REPUBLIC SOLDIERS run out of the dropship hangars and take their positions. An army of CLONE SOLDIERS, led by GENERAL GRIEVOUS, awaits them.

GRIEVOUS
(into comlink)
The time has come, my friends. You may commence the attack.

GRIEVOUS raises his vibroblade triumphantly.

GRIEVOUS
Attack!

CLONE SOLDIERS and REPUBLIC SOLDIERS charge towards each other as blaster fire ERUPTS from the ground.

15 EXT ALDERAAN – LAKESIDE – DAY

ANAKIN and PADMÉ are sharing a meal together. The field is decorated with willows and lotuses of every colour. There are crystal blue mountains in the distance. A river cuts through the mountains, and from the cliff-face a waterfall showers the lilies in the lake below. ANAKIN holds a piece of fruit in his hand, then uses the Force to make it disappear.

ANAKIN
And…there!

PADMÉ applauds Anakin’s party trick.

ANAKIN
Obi-wan would kill me if he found out I was doing this…

ANAKIN uses the Force to take another piece of fruit off Padmé’s plate and places it on his own. He starts cutting up the fruit into small pieces.

PADMÉ
Hey!

ANAKIN
Settle down!

ANAKIN uses the Force to bring a piece of fruit towards her.

ANAKIN
Now open wide…

PADMÉ opens her mouth as ANAKIN ‘Force-feeds’ her. PADMÉ looks around to admire the beauty of the landscape.

PADMÉ
This place is so beautiful…

ANAKIN
Yeah, I’ve never seen anything like it before.

ANAKIN stands up.

PADMÉ
What are you doing?

ANAKIN helps her up with a wry grin.

ANAKIN
I want to see it all.

ANAKIN runs towards the REPUBLIC TRANSPORT, leading Padmé by the hand.

ANAKIN
Come on! I’ve seen Banthas run faster than you…

PADMÉ
What’s a Bantha?

ANAKIN
Just…hurry up.

ANAKIN and PADMÉ run into the hangar of the transport as it closes behind them.

16 INT/EXT ALDERAAN – REPUBLIC TRANSPORT – COCKPIT – DAY

ANAKIN presses buttons and pulls levers, and the transport takes off. The transport shoots off in the air, until ANAKIN pushes it down for a dive. He levels out just metres above the field, leaving behind a flurry of lotus petals. PADMÉ gapes out the window, awestruck by the scenery and Anakin’s piloting skills. He flies the ship through the mist of the waterfall.

PADMÉ
Anakin! Look out for the –

ANAKIN pulls the ship back to narrowly avert the cliff-face behind the waterfall.

PADMÉ
You don’t have to do this just to impress me…

ANAKIN
What’s the matter? Impressed?

PADMÉ
Here, give me the controls.

PADMÉ snatches the flight controls from ANAKIN, as he raises his hands in resignation.

ANAKIN
Sure thing, Padmé…

PADMÉ
Just because I’m a Queen, doesn’t mean I don’t know a few tricks…

The transport starts taking a dive towards the lake.

ANAKIN
Hey, what are you doing?! I thought you knew how to fly this thing!

ANAKIN puts his hand over Padmé’s to take control of the ship.

ANAKIN
Here…

The ship pulls up just in time, disturbing the lilies and the water. PADMÉ lets out a sigh of relief. Her relief is short-lived though, as ANAKIN performs an exhilarating loop-de-loop in the air. ANAKIN finds a nice spot among the willow trees.

ANAKIN
There we go.

ANAKIN lands the craft beside the lake. They get out of the transport and walk along the lakeside.

17 EXT ALDERAAN – OUTSIDE PADMÉ’S QUARTERS – SUNSET

ANAKIN and PADMÉ arrive at Padmé’s door and stand there for a while, looking into each other’s eyes.

ANAKIN
Well, I guess this is it.

PADMÉ
I had a really wonderful time today.

ANAKIN
(jokingly)
All in the interests of protecting you, of course.

PADMÉ
Well, it helped me take my mind off things. Thank you.

They lean in to kiss each other, but ANAKIN abruptly breaks contact.

ANAKIN
(spritely, as if nothing just happened)
Well, I better get going. Goodnight.

PADMÉ
(slightly disappointed)
Goodnight, Anakin.

PADMÉ opens the door and enters her quarters as ANAKIN turns around and leaves.

18 EXT CORELLIA – SPACE

The REPUBLIC FLEET waits outside of the planet CORELLIA as the SEPARATIST NAVY leaves hyperspace.

19 INT ALDERAAN – ANAKIN’S QUARTERS

ANAKIN is asleep in bed, tossing and turning. He sees a VISION of the planet KESSEL.

20 EXT CORELLIA – SPACE BATTLE

THOUSANDS of SEPARATIST ASSAULT TRANSPORTS charge through the blockade, firing missiles and ion cannons at REPUBLIC CRUISERS, CORELLIAN CORVETTES, and ASSAULT GUNBOATS. SEPARATIST FIGHTERS fly out of the hangars of SEPARATIST CRUISERS to accompany the transports. The REPUBLIC CRUISERS take out many of the ASSAULT TRANSPORTS and their accompanying fighters, which crash and EXPLODE on the planet surface. A majority of the transports make it through.

21 EXT DANTOOINE – GRASSLANDS – PATROL TOWER – LATE AFTERNOON

A PATROL OFFICER witnesses the invasion through electrobinoculars. A BATTALION of CLONE SOLDIERS marches across the plains.

22 EXT CHANDRILLA/KASHYYYK/MON CALAMARI/SULLUST/ITHOR – MONTAGE

The ASSAULT TRANSPORTS open their hangars as BATTALIONS of CLONE SOLDIERS deploy on land and sea. The sounds of marching builds to a crescendo.

23 EXT CORELLIA – PLAINS – SUNSET

REPUBLIC SOLDIERS face the SEPARATIST CLONE ARMY. The CLONE COMMANDER raises his blaster rifle in the air.

CLONE COMMANDER
Charge!

The two armies charge towards each other as blaster fire ERUPTS from all sides.

CUT TO
24 INT ALDERAAN – ANAKIN’S QUARTERS – EARLY MORNING

ANAKIN hears a cry for help in his dream-vision.

ANAKIN
No!

Anakin’s eyes open suddenly as he sits bolt upright in a cold sweat. He wipes his forehead and gets out of bed. He puts a shirt on and walks out onto the balcony. He stands there looking out at the lake. PADMÉ walks up behind him and puts her hands on his shoulders.

PADMÉ
I heard you from my room, is something wrong?

ANAKIN
It was nothing. Just a bad dream.

PADMÉ
I thought that Jedi didn’t have nightmares.

ANAKIN
They don’t. That’s the problem.

PADMÉ
What is it? You can tell me…

ANAKIN
I saw my mother, in the spice mines of Kessel. She was suffering…I know I’ll be violating my mandate to protect you, but I have to go.

PADMÉ
I’ll go with you.

ANAKIN
No, you can’t; it could be dangerous. You should stay here with the Republican Guard.

PADMÉ
But I’ll be safer with you. Please, let me come…

ANAKIN
(sighing)
All right, but you must promise me you’ll stay on board the ship.

PADMÉ
I promise.

25 EXT/INT ALDERAAN – REPUBLIC TRANSPORT – COCKPIT – MORNING

ANAKIN sets course for Kessel, and the transport takes off. Once it leaves the atmosphere, the transport turns around and enters HYPERSPACE.

26 EXT/INT KESSEL – REPUBLIC TRANSPORT – COCKPIT – SUNSET

ANAKIN flies through the clouds and looks down at the rocky surface of Kessel.

ANAKIN
(pointing down at the mining colony)
That looks like it, down there.

TWO PATROL CRAFT appear behind the transport. ANAKIN looks back at them.

ANAKIN
We’ve got company.

A PATROL CRAFT fires a warning shot at Anakin. The whole ship shakes.

MINING AUTHORITY
(over comlink)
Maintain your current course…Do you have a clearance code?

ANAKIN
(into comlink)
No. I am here on Jedi business.

MINING AUTHORITY
(over comlink)
The Jedi have no business here!

Both PATROL CRAFT open fire on ANAKIN, but he manoeuvres the ship to dodge their cannon fire.

ANAKIN
I guess that’s the end of that, then…

ANAKIN pulls up the craft.

PADMÉ
What are you doing?

ANAKIN
They want a fight. I’ll give them a fight…

He opens fire on both patrol craft and takes them out. He weaves in and out of the clouds, looking for a place to land. He sees a clearing on a secluded cliff, overlooking the spice mines.

ANAKIN
That looks nice. Yeah, that place looks real nice.

ANAKIN lands the craft. He stands up and presses a button to open the hangar door.

ANAKIN
Stay here. Oh, and take this…

ANAKIN pulls a blaster rifle off the wall and throws it to PADMÉ, who catches it awkwardly.

ANAKIN
(continuing)
Blast anything that comes up that ramp. I’ll be back soon.

ANAKIN walks down the ramp.

PADMÉ
Be careful.

27 EXT DXUN – JUNGLE/GRASSLANDS – NIGHT

OBI-WAN treks through the Dxun jungle. He walks past a Jedi dropship, overgrown with vines and grass. He follows the tracks until he finds the remains of two Mandalorian warriors.

OBI-WAN
Lightsaber marks…

OBI-WAN proceeds further until he reaches the open grasslands. He gazes across the vastness of the grasslands and sees a monolithic tomb far off in the distance.

OBI-WAN
What is that?

OBI-WAN continues walking towards it.

28 EXT KESSEL – SECLUDED CLIFF/SPICE MINES/WALKWAY – NIGHT

ANAKIN peers over the cliff and sees the SLAVES digging for spice in the mining caverns. There is a walkway leading out of the caverns, where SLAVES carry the spice containers back and forth from the mines. He spots an OLD WOMAN, struggling to carry her container, and recognises her as his mother. She collapses under the heavy load and drops the container on the ground. The SLAVERS immediately run over to reprimand her.

SLAVER
Get a move on, slave!

ANAKIN’S MOTHER cannot move. The SLAVERS whip her repeatedly.

ANAKIN leaps down from the cliff onto the walkway.

ANAKIN
ARGH!!

ANAKIN knocks both slavers flying with his fist and elbow. The SLAVES drop their containers and run.

SLAVE
Let’s get out of here!

ANAKIN holds his mother in his arms. She opens her eyes.

ANAKIN’S MOTHER
Anakin? Anakin…is that you?

ANAKIN
Yes, it’s me, mother. Everything’s going to be okay.

ANAKIN’S MOTHER
You’ve grown so tall…and handsome.

ANAKIN
I’m a Jedi now. I’ve come to save you.

ANAKIN’S MOTHER
You…already have. I’m so proud of you, Anakin.

ANAKIN
Don’t leave me. Hold on! Don’t leave me, mother!

ANAKIN’S MOTHER
I…love…

ANAKIN’S MOTHER dies. ANAKIN closes his mother’s eyes and lets her rest on the ground. ANAKIN wells up with anger and ignites his lightsaber.

ANAKIN
ARGH!!

SLAVERS run towards him, and he slaughters them like dogs. The final slaver gets down on his knees and begs for his life.

SLAVER
No! Please don’t kill me…please!

ANAKIN mercilessly slaughters the slaver.

30 EXT KESSEL – SPICE MINES – NIGHT

ANAKIN marches out of the caves, lightsaber bared, with SLAVES marching behind him. A spirit of revenge is in the air. The SLAVES take up arms in a bloody revolution against their oppressors.

31 EXT KESSEL – SPICE MINING COLONY – MONTAGE – NIGHT

ANAKIN marches through the colony with his new army, mercilessly slaughtering the SLAVERS in his wake.

32 EXT KESSEL – WALKWAY – NIGHT

ANAKIN stoops down and picks up his mother’s corpse, climbing back up the cliff-face.

33 EXT CHANDRILLA/ITHOR/SULLUST/MON CALAMARI/DANTOOINE/KASHYYYK/CORELLIA – MONTAGE

ITHORIANS, SULLUSTIANS, MON CALAMARI, QUARRENS, HUMANS, and WOOKIES rally alongside the REPUBLIC SOLDIERS to defend their homeworlds from the Separatist invasion.

34 EXT ONDERON – CAVES – LATE AFTERNOON

The legendary BEAST-RIDERS of Onderon rally from the caves to help liberate their planet from the tyranny of General Grievous.

35 EXT ONDERON – PLAINS – LATE AFTERNOON

REPUBLIC SOLDIERS fire upon the SEPARATIST CLONE ARMY from behind boulders. They are greatly outnumbered. As the CLONE SOLDIERS approach, the REPUBLIC SOLDIERS look to the sky. A group of BEAST-RIDERS fly overhead, hurling incendiaries upon the clone soldiers.

BEAST-RIDERS
Al-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!!

A chain of EXPLOSIONS scatter the clone soldiers across the battlefield, but it was merely a dent in enemy lines. More CLONE SOLDIERS march onward to take their place. Ranks of CLONE SOLDIERS can be seen all the way to the heart of Iziz.

36 INT KESSEL – REPUBLIC TRANSPORT – HANGAR

PADMÉ stands at the top of the loading ramp with her blaster rifle raised vigilantly. She sees ANAKIN carrying his mother’s body, then drops the blaster rifle and runs over to help him. ANAKIN lays his mother’s body down and falls to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably. PADMÉ tries to comfort him, embracing him and running her hands down his face. ANAKIN stands up and holds Padmé close to him. In a whirlwind of emotion, they kiss each other passionately.

WIPE TO
37 EXT TATOOINE – DESERT WASTELAND – DAY

ANAKIN stands before his mother’s grave, his arm around Padmé. OWEN LARS stands beside them. The desert wind WHISTLES through the surrounding dunes, blowing sand around.

OWEN
Your mother was a kind, generous woman.

ANAKIN
I couldn’t save her. I was too weak.

OWEN
(his hand on Anakin’s shoulder)
You did all you could. No-one even expected to see her again, but you found her. You brought her back home…Your mother would be proud of you.

38 EXT DXUN – THE TOMB OF FREEDON NADD – ENTRANCE – NIGHT

OBI-WAN reaches the bottom of the tomb entrance and looks up at the apex of the tomb. He ascends the stairs very warily. Once he reaches the entrance, he studies the wall markings, hieroglyphs, and statues.

OBI-WAN
(into comlink)
Master Yoda, Master Yoda…come in, Master Yoda.

OBI-WAN shakes his comlink, as it isn’t working. He presses a few buttons then tries again.

OBI-WAN
(into comlink)
Anakin…Anakin, come in…

39 EXT TATOOINE – DESERT WASTELAND – DAY

OBI-WAN
(over comlink)
Anakin…Anakin, come in…

ANAKIN hears something coming from the transport.

ANAKIN
It’s Obi-wan!

ANAKIN turns around and runs into the hangar of his ship.

OBI-WAN
(over comlink)
Anakin, do you read me?!

ANAKIN
(into comlink)
Yes Master, I’m here!

OBI-WAN
(over comlink)
Tatooine?! What in the blazes are you doing on Tatooine?!

ANAKIN
(into comlink)
Obi-wan, I can explain, my –

OBI-WAN

Oh, never mind. I need you to patch me through to the Jedi Council urgently.

ANAKIN
(into comlink)
Yes, Master.

ANAKIN presses a few buttons on the comlink.

40 INT CORUSCANT – JEDI TEMPLE – COUNCIL CHAMBERS – TWILIGHT

MASTER YODA and MASTER WINDU are seated in the Council Chambers. They speak to Anakin from their seats.

MACE

We read you, Anakin.

ANAKIN
(over comlink)
Obi-wan wishes to speak with you urgently. I’m patching him through now.

MACE
(into comlink)
We will receive him. Obi-wan, what is it?

41 EXT DXUN – THE TOMB OF FREEDON NADD – ENTRANCE – NIGHT

OBI-WAN

Do you know anyone of historic importance who may have been buried on Dxun?

MACE
(over comlink)
No-one comes to mind…Why do you ask?

OBI-WAN inspects the inscriptions and hieroglyphs on the wall.

OBI-WAN

I’ve found what appears to be a tomb, an extremely large one. The Jedi were here.

MACE
(over comlink)
Investigate the area further. We will contact you when we have more information.

OBI-WAN
(into comlink)

MASTER YODA breaks his meditation, looking very troubled.

MACE

43 EXT – DXUN – THE TOMB OF FREEDON NADD – ENTRANCE – NIGHT

OBI-WAN lowers his comlink and turns around to see a CLOAKED FIGURE, shrouded in darkness, accompanied by two of the missing JEDI KNIGHTS.

OBI-WAN
Where have you been?

CLOAKED FIGURE
We’ve been training.

OBI-WAN
What happened to the rest of the Jedi Knights?

CLOAKED FIGURE
They were not strong enough to complete the training…

OBI-WAN looks greatly troubled by this answer, and looks at the three figures quizzically.

OBI-WAN
Which of you is the Jedi known as Sifo-Dyas?

The CLOAKED FIGURE removes his hood and steps into the light, revealing his tattooed scalp. It is none other than DARTH TYRANUS!

TYRANUS
The Jedi you refer to as Sifo-Dyas, is dead.

OBI-WAN
(astonished)
Sith…

OBI-WAN and TYRANUS brandish their lightsabers and duel, as the other DARK JEDI look onward. OBI-WAN and TYRANUS circle until they’re facing the opposite way. The duellists lock blades…

OBI-WAN
So, Master Dyas, what seduced you to fall away?

TYRANUS
Fall away?! Ha ha ha ha! I was merely waiting for the right time!

TYRANUS pushes against Obi-wan, sending him flying down the stairs. OBI-WAN lands on his back, as TYRANUS leaps towards him. The duellists cross blades again…

TYRANUS
You will join me, either by will or by force.

OBI-WAN
(still on his back)
I’ll never join you!

OBI-WAN pushes TYRANUS back and stands up.

TYRANUS
Very well.

TYRANUS parries Obi-wan’s blade. TYRANUS and his followers stretch out their hands, using the Force to push Obi-wan back into the rock wall. OBI-WAN falls unconscious, dropping his lightsaber. The DARK JEDI place him in energy binders and carry him away.

Obi-wan’s comlink transmission goes STATIC.

MACE
(into comlink)
Obi-wan! Obi-wan…we’ve lost him.

KI-ADI
Can you still pick up his signal?

MACE
Yes, but barely. Anakin?

45 EXT/INT TATOOINE – DESERT WASTELAND – REPUBLIC TRANSPORT – DAY

ANAKIN
(into comlink)
Yes, Master?

MACE
(over comlink)
Stay put with the Queen, we will send a rescue team for –

ANAKIN walks outside the ship, taking the comlink with him.

ANAKIN
(into comlink)
I’m sorry Master Windu, you’re breaking up!

ANAKIN turns the comlink off and puts it in his pocket.

MACE
We’ve lost him. We can only hope he’ll do the right thing…

47 EXT TATOOINE – DESERT WASTELAND – DAY

ANAKIN walks back over to Padmé and Owen.

PADMÉ
What did you do that for?

ANAKIN
My master’s in trouble and they were about to tell me to do nothing about it.

KI-ADI
Do you he’s still alive?

MACE
Yes. I believe they’ll try to turn him, like the others.

SHAAK
A Sith Lord, in our midst for so long. How could his alignment be hidden from us?

MACE
It is indeed troubling. The greater evil we suspected has emerged.

MASTER YODA rises from his seat and hobbles on his walking stick towards the door.

YODA
After Obi-wan I must go. Assemble a rescue team, I will.

MACE
May the Force be with you, Yoda.

The door closes behind him.

49 EXT TATOOINE – DESERT WASTELAND – DAY

OWEN
You can live in peace here, now that you’ve found your mother.

ANAKIN
I’m sorry Owen, I can’t.

OWEN
There’s a crazy war going on out there –

ANAKIN
And my friend’s out there in it.

ANAKIN starts walking back towards the transport.

PADMÉ
You’re not going, are you?

ANAKIN
Well, of course I’m going!

PADMÉ
But the Council said to stay! They’re sending a rescue team –

ANAKIN
They’re too far away, it’ll take too long. I’m the best chance they’ve got of saving Obi-wan.

PADMÉ
(frustrated)
Oooh! Then I’m going with you!

ANAKIN
Oh, no you’re not, not this time! I must go alone.

PADMÉ
But you have a mandate to protect me!

ANAKIN
You’ll only be in more danger if you come. It’s safe here with Owen, the Separatists have no presence here.

ANAKIN and PADMÉ kiss each other passionately, until ANAKIN breaks it off. He walks up the hangar ramp.

ANAKIN
I will return. I promise.

PADMÉ and OWEN stand in front of the transport as the hangar closes. They watch ANAKIN take off as the sand blows around them.

50 INT CORUSCANT – JEDI TEMPLE – COUNCIL CHAMBERS – NIGHT

MASTER WINDU reconvenes the meeting of JEDI MASTERS.

MACE
We have received a request from the Senate to dispatch Jedi forces on all fronts. Republic soldiers and local militias are being overrun by the Separatist Clone Army.

KI-ADI
The time to act is now.

SHAAK
I agree.

MACE
Then it is settled. The Knights will be sent to the Republic border.

KI-ADI
It seems that Sifo-Dyas’ warnings have come to fruition.

MACE
We shall see. I will lead the Jedi Knights on Onderon and face Grievous.

MACE WINDU rises from his seat and makes his way towards the door.

SHAAK
Very well. May the Force be with you, Master Windu.

51 INT CORUSCANT – JEDI TEMPLE – CORRIDOR/DOCKING BAY – NIGHT

A SIREN sounds as the JEDI KNIGHTS run down the Temple corridors to the docking bay. They board dropships en masse. Dropships filled to capacity close their hangars and make the jump into HYPERSPACE.

52 INT CORUSCANT – GALACTIC SENATE

SUPREME CHANCELLOR PALPATINE calls an emergency meeting of the Senate. A RABBLE rouses. MAS AMEDDA calls the Senate to order.

MAS AMEDDA
Order! Order!

PALPATINE
I have called this emergency meeting to bring you some disturbing news. The Separatist clone armies are overwhelming Republic soldiers and local militias. It will not be long before these systems fall. The Jedi Knights have been dispatched to aid our soldiers on the battlefront, but the Jedi alone will not be enough to defend the Republic against the ever-growing Separatist threat. I have done all I can to counter this threat, but any further action on my part is limited by Republic law.

A RABBLE rouses again. SENATOR TARKIN rises.

TARKIN
I love and respect the law. It is designed to make our society thrive. But we must follow the spirit of the law, not the letter of the law if we are to survive. And the spirit of the law is that our society should thrive. Chancellor Palpatine is a wartime Chancellor. He has proven trustworthy and diligent in his responsibilities, and it is my firm belief that he can be trusted with more. I move that Chancellor Palpatine be granted Emergency Powers.

QUARREN SENATOR
I second this motion!

MAS AMEDDA
The motion has been seconded. This bill will be put to a vote.

The SENATORS cast their votes as PROBE DROIDS scurry around to collect and tabulate them. A PROBE DROID returns to MAS AMEDDA to inform him of the result.

MAS AMEDDA
The bill has been passed by a majority.

CHANCELLOR PALPATINE rises to give a speech.

PALPATINE
Thank you for the great amount of trust you have placed in me. I love democracy, but in times of war decisions need to be made swiftly. The power I have been given I will lay down once this crisis has abated…

The SENATORS rise to give the Chancellor a standing ovation.

PALPATINE
(continuing)
And with no further adieu, I move for the construction of a new Army for the Republic!

53 EXT/INT SPACE – SEPARATIST CRUISER – CONTROL TOWER

OBI-WAN KENOBI regains consciousness aboard a Separatist Cruiser. He looks down at his hands and realises that he is bound. DARTH TYRANUS stands before him.

OBI-WAN
You won’t get away with this, Darth!

TYRANUS
Ah, you have spirit…You could use it to fuel your power.

OBI-WAN
I will not turn.

TYRANUS
Ha ha ha ha ha! You Jedi are all the same. Slaves to your own Code. You had your chance, Master Kenobi, but no…you have to do it the hard way, don’t you?

TYRANUS uses the Force to torture Obi-wan, sending shockwaves through his body.

OBI-WAN
ARGH!!

TYRANUS
You could be free. If only you’d embrace your anger…Pathetic.

TYRANUS shakes his head in disappointment and walks away. He turns around at the last second and shocks him one last time.

OBI-WAN
ARGH!!

54 EXT/INT SPACE – REPUBLIC TRANSPORT – COCKPIT

ANAKIN approaches the cruiser in remote space. A group of SEPARATIST FIGHTERS patrol the vicinity of the cruiser. ANAKIN takes out the leader with his cannons, and the TWO WINGMEN double back to counter-attack. ANAKIN maximises shield output to the rear and brilliantly evades their cannon fire. The ENEMY FIGHTERS fire proton torpedoes at him. ANAKIN performs a barrel-roll, and then releases the garbage chute. The torpedoes lock onto the space garbage and EXPLODE. The WINGMEN stop and wait for the smoke to clear.

PILOT #1
(into comlink)
Did you get him?

PILOT #2
(into comlink)
Yeah, we got him.

The WINGMEN are about to turn around and fly back when ANAKIN comes flying back through the smoke towards them, firing rapidly upon them. PILOT #1 is taken out.

PILOT #1
(into comlink)
I’ve been hit!

ANAKIN then shoots down PILOT #2 and quickly flies the transport into the cruiser’s hangar.

55 INT SEPARATIST CRUISER – CONTROL TOWER

A SEPARATIST OFFICER marches up to DARTH TYRANUS and salutes him.

OFFICER
A hostile transport has boarded the cruiser, milord!

TYRANUS
Offer them no resistance. I will deal with this intrusion myself.

TYRANUS
Fûr’nas, Sen’djiari!

TWO of Tyranus’ followers, DARTH FÛR’NAS and DARTH SEN’DJIARI, come and kneel before their master.

FÛR’NAS/SEN’DJIARI
Yes, Lord Tyranus.

TYRANUS
Find the intruder and silence him!

FÛR’NAS/SEN’DJIARI
Yes, Master.

The DARK JEDI are about to leave when they realise their master has something else to say. DARTH TYRANUS turns back around.

TYRANUS
And do not underestimate him. The Force is strong with this one.

FÛR’NAS and SEN’DJIARI run down the corridor to find the intruder.

56 INT SEPARATIST CRUISER – MAIN HANGAR BAY/CORRIDOR

ANAKIN jumps down from his transport, cloaks himself and bolts down the corridor.

57 EXT ONDERON – PLAINS – SUNSET

The JEDI KNIGHTS on Onderon deflect barrages of blaster fire from SEPARATIST CLONE SOLDIERS, using the Force to push them over. A strong wind blows above the Jedi Knights. MACE WINDU turns around and looks up to see a SQUADRON of REPUBLIC DROPSHIPS hovering above the surface of Onderon. Their hangars open up, and cables lower down, as THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of REPUBLIC CLONE TROOPERS slide down. Reinforcements have arrived.

REPUBLIC SOLDIERS
(raising their blaster rifles in celebration)
For the Republic!

BEAST-RIDERS
(taking flight)
Al-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!

REPUBLIC SOLDIERS and native BEAST-RIDERS rally into battle once more. The tide has turned…

58 INT SEPARATIST CRUISER – CORRIDOR

ANAKIN stops, lowers his head, and ignites his lightsaber, as he senses the presence of DARTH FÛR’NAS and DARTH SEN’DJIARI. They too, ignite their lightsabers as they drop down from the ceiling. A frenetic melee ensues. ANAKIN holds his own against his opponents.

ANAKIN
(crossing blades with SEN’DJIARI)
What have you done with my Master?

SEN’DJIARI
He is being instructed in the true nature of the Force…

ANAKIN pushes SEN’DJIARI back with his lightsaber.

ANAKIN
He has nothing to learn from traitors like you.

FÛR’NAS stretches out his hand, using the Force to lift and choke Anakin. ANAKIN grips his throat with his other hand, desperately trying to counter its effects. SEN’DJIARI stands back and watches.

FÛR’NAS
You have much to learn, Jedi…Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Anakin’s eyes widen as his enemy laughs. Suddenly, ANAKIN throws his lightsaber like a boomerang, cutting his laughing opponent in half. SEN’DJIARI somersaults towards Skywalker, who is unarmed. At the last second, ANAKIN uses the Force to pull both lightsabers towards him and fights on. Finally, ANAKIN disarms his opponent, and without thought of remorse, beheads him with both lightsabers. ANAKIN continues running down the corridor.

59 INT SEPARATIST CRUISER – CONTROL TOWER

ANAKIN finds Obi-wan bound in the control tower of the Cruiser.

OBI-WAN
(struggling)
Run, Anakin! It’s a trap!

ANAKIN ignores Obi-wan and runs over to free him. He uses the Force to break the energy binders on Obi-wan’s hands and feet.

OBI-WAN
You shouldn’t have come.

ANAKIN
I had to. Here, take my lightsaber.

ANAKIN throws his lightsaber hilt to OBI-WAN. OBI-WAN is taken aback, then puzzled by Anakin’s abundance of lightsabers.

OBI-WAN
Okay…

OBI-WAN ignites the lightsaber and inspects it for a moment. DARTH TYRANUS laughs evilly as he enters the room.

TYRANUS
Young Skywalker! I see you disposed of my students. Impressive.

ANAKIN
You’re going to pay for all the Jedi you’ve killed.

ANAKIN ignites the Sith lightsaber.

TYRANUS
You shouldn’t have come. But it is no matter. Now I will have two new apprentices instead of one.

OBI-WAN
Don’t listen to his Sith lies!

ANAKIN
I’ll never join you!

TYRANUS
Jedi beliefs always have been self-destructive, but very well. I’ll have to kill you instead.

TYRANUS ignites his lightsaber. OBI-WAN and ANAKIN take on DARTH TYRANUS in a stunning lightsaber battle. TYRANUS holds his own against the two Jedi, ripping objects off the walls to hurl at them. ANAKIN swings his lightsaber at the foreign objects while OBI-WAN uses the Force to put them to rest. TYRANUS unbolts a platform above Obi-wan, which crumbles and falls.

ANAKIN
Obi-wan!

Obi-wan’s legs are trapped underneath the debris, but he manages to pass the lightsaber back to Anakin.

OBI-WAN
Anakin, here!

TYRANUS laughs mockingly again.

TYRANUS
Your master cannot save you now!

ANAKIN stands tall and lowers his lightsabers.

ANAKIN
Then I will defeat you alone.

TYRANUS stops laughing, somewhat shocked by Anakin’s response.

TYRANUS
Such arrogance! The downfall of every Jedi…

ANAKIN runs towards him and continues fighting furiously with dual lightsabers. He performs stunning feats of swordsmanship, but ultimately, Tyranus is his better. TYRANUS takes out Anakin’s Sith lightsaber, but ANAKIN keeps fighting.

TYRANUS
Is that all you can do?

ANAKIN
You’ll find I’m full of surprises.

ANAKIN uses the Force to throw his lightsaber at him and misses. Then he leaps at Tyranus, stretching out his hand. He tries to push him back with the Force, but TYRANUS flings Anakin into the wall. ANAKIN raises his arms, using the Force to pull objects off the wall and throw them at him at incredible speed. TYRANUS stops them in mid-air, and then sends them back at Anakin. Anakin’s body is pounded by a barrage of foreign objects. He falls to his knees.

TYRANUS
It is finished. Give in while you still can.

ANAKIN
(in between breaths)
Do not…underestimate me…for my ally is the Force!

ANAKIN musters up all the strength left in his body, uses the Force to pick up his lightsaber, ignites it, and rushes at his opponent. ANAKIN performs a furious flurry, but leaves himself open to attack. TYRANUS cuts Anakin’s hand off, and his body is thrown back, sliding across the floor.

ANAKIN
ARGH!!

ANAKIN holds his wound.

60 EXT ONDERON – IZIZ PALACE GATES – SUNSET

MACE WINDU leads the charge of CLONE TROOPERS, BEAST-RIDERS and REPUBLIC SOLDIERS through the Iziz palace gates. CLONE TROOPERS march onward, blasting down ranks of clone soldiers. MACE leaps into the thick of battle, cutting down his opponents, and using the Force to pummel all clone soldiers in his vicinity. The Republic forces have pushed the Separatists back considerably. GENERAL GRIEVOUS and the CLONE ARMY COMMANDER step back slowly with the rest of their squad, firing rapidly at approaching CLONE TROOPERS.

GRIEVOUS
Pull back now! Prepare my shuttle!

COMMANDER
Yes, sir!

61 INT SEPARATIST CRUISER – CONTROL TOWER

DARTH TYRANUS has his lightsaber pointed at Anakin’s throat, ready to finish him off. He raises his lightsaber above his head with both hands.

TYRANUS
And now Jedi, you will die!

OBI-WAN
No!

The entire Cruiser RUMBLES violently, and TYRANUS stumbles back. ANAKIN crawls away, using his one hand to pull himself across the floor. He looks up and sees MASTER YODA standing before him.

OBI-WAN
Master!

YODA
(shaking his head in disappointment)
Hmph!

YODA walks towards Darth Tyranus with his walking stick.

TYRANUS
Ah, Master Yoda! Have you come to join the ranks of crippled Jedi?

YODA
I am sorry, Sifo-Dyas. Failed you we have.

TYRANUS
Ha ha ha ha ha! Typical Jedi ignorance!

OBI-WAN
Be careful, Yoda. He’s been a Sith all along!

YODA
There is no turning you, I see.

DARTH TYRANUS puts away his lightsaber, and tries to send a bolt of lightning at Yoda with the Force. YODA absorbs the bolt with the Force.

TYRANUS
(frustrated)
Argh!

TYRANUS resorts to sending both bolts from both hands, but YODA absorbs them also.

TYRANUS
I see that your command of the Force is superior to my own. But it is no matter! None of you will escape this ship alive!

In a last ditch effort, TYRANUS rips a power generator out of the wall and hurls it at the three Jedi. He ejects all the empty escape pods and climbs inside the final one. YODA stops the generator in the air, calmly and gently laying it aside. He then concentrates on lifting the platform to free Obi-wan from the debris.

62 EXT SPACE – ESCAPE POD

TYRANUS laughs evilly as he watches the SEPARATIST CRUISER rapidly losing altitude.

63 INT SEPARATIST CRUISER – CONTROL TOWER

The RESCUE TEAM rush into the room to attend to Obi-wan and Anakin. A REPUBLIC OFFICER stands before Master Yoda.

OFFICER
The cruiser is rapidly losing altitude.

YODA
To the main hangar bay, hurry!

The RESCUE TEAM put Obi-wan and Anakin over their shoulders and run back towards the main hangar bay with YODA.

64 INT SEPARATIST CRUISER – MAIN HANGAR BAY – CORELLIAN CORVETTE

The RESCUE TEAM carry OBI-WAN and ANAKIN on board the CORELLIAN CORVETTE, and YODA follows. The RESCUE TEAM press a few buttons to take off.

65 EXT SPACE – SEPARATIST CRUISER

The CORELLIAN CORVETTE leaves the SEPARATIST CRUISER plummeting and EXPLODING. A group of SEPARATIST FIGHTERS follow them, but one of them in consumed by the explosion.

OFFICER
Enemy fighters to the rear!

The SEPARATIST FIGHTERS fire upon the Corvette.

OFFICER
Intensify rear deflector shields! Prepare to make the jump into hyperspace!

The CORELLIAN CORVETTE turns and fires on the Separatist Fighters with its rear cannons as it makes the jump into HYPERSPACE.

66 EXT ONDERON – IZIZ PALACE GATES – SUNSET

GENERAL GRIEVOUS fires at several CLONE TROOPERS with incredible accuracy as he backs up the ramp to his shuttle. The ramp closes behind him.

67 EXT/INT SEPARATIST SHUTTLE

A SEPARATIST OFFICER pilots the shuttle and flies it out of the palace walls. LIEUTENANT BRAHI appears on Grievous’ holo-screen.

GRIEVOUS
Are the reinforcements ready, Lieutenant?

LT. BRAHI
They are ready for deployment, milord!

GRIEVOUS
Excellent! Flank the Republic Army on both sides. We’ll push them through the palace gates.

The entire shuttle rumbles violently.

OFFICER
We’ve lost the vertical wing, milord!

GRIEVOUS
(slamming his fist down)
Curses!

The smoking shuttle loses control and crashes into the wilderness.

68 EXT/INT CORELLIAN CORVETTE – MEDICAL BAY

ANAKIN and OBI-WAN receive medical attention from the MEDICAL DROIDS on board the Corellian Corvette. OBI-WAN is not harmed badly, while ANAKIN is equipped with a black cybernetic hand. OBI-WAN and ANAKIN lie side by side on stretchers.

MEDICAL DROID
How are you feeling, Master Kenobi?

OBI-WAN
Oh, much better, thank you.

The MEDICAL DROID pricks Anakin’s fingers to test their sensitivity.

ANAKIN
Ow!

OBI-WAN
Let that be a reminder to you…

ANAKIN inspects his new hand for a while and moves it around.

OBI-WAN
You were told on numerous occasions to stay where you were, and you deliberately disobeyed your mandate to protect Padmé!

OBI-WAN almost loses his breath.

ANAKIN
I’m sorry Obi-wan, it’s just that…I lost my mother. I didn’t want to lose a friend as well.

OBI-WAN places his hand on Anakin’s shoulder.

OBI-WAN
I’m sorry for your loss, Anakin. Your feelings do you credit, but you must be mindful of your actions.

69 EXT CHANDRILLA/ITHOR/SULLUST/MON CALAMARI/DANTOOINE/KASHYYYK/CORELLIA – MONTAGE

The Clone Wars rage on across the Republic border, on land and in space, as the two sides struggle to a stalemate.

70 EXT ONDERON – IZIZ PALACE – SUNSET

The REPUBLIC ARMY on Onderon are flanked on both sides by Separatist reinforcements, pushing them through the palace gates.

71 EXT CORUSCANT – JEDI TEMPLE – DOCKING BAY – DAY

ANAKIN and OBI-WAN are walking across the docking bay floor after having just arrived on Coruscant.

ANAKIN
(stretching and exhaling)
Well, I’d better get going.

OBI-WAN
But we only just got here! We are you off to this time?!

ANAKIN
The Queen’s still on Tatooine, isn’t she?

OBI-WAN
(sighing)
All right. But no more adventures!

ANAKIN
You don’t have to worry about that!

ANAKIN runs back, boards his JEDI STARFIGHTER and leaves. CHANCELLOR PALPATINE rushes to greet OBI-WAN and YODA.

PALPATINE
Master Kenobi! Master Yoda! Thank goodness you are safe!

PALPATINE pauses for a moment to think.

PALPATINE
Where is young Skywalker?

OBI-WAN
He had some things he needed to take care of…

72 EXT TATOOINE – NIGHT

ANAKIN and PADMÉ have a secret marriage on Tatooine. They kiss each other under the moonlight. ANAKIN puts his arm around PADMÉ as they look into space.
