Maybe the problem is that non-religous people just don't understand faith. I don't know if they know what it means to truly believe in something or someone. While catching up on my webcomic reading today I came across this. It is Brian Clevenger of 8BT.

Episode 586: This is for, like, three of you.

I have some serious business to discuss with you fine, intelligent readers today.

If you are capable of turning this wav file into a polyphonic ringtone for something along the lines of, let's say, a Samsung x427m cellular telephone, then I would become a very happy boy.

Every mobile summons would be a transformative experience. I'd insist that all conversations take place on the cellular level and that ringtone would be the polymerase that binds the bits and bytes of our information exchange till all are one.

You could safely say I'm completely gay for Transformers and still not quite encompass my feelings for it.

Let me put it this way.

I have never been a religious person or a church-goer of any sort. I've studied a variety of religions on an academic level because A) I needed the elective credits and cool.gif as an outsider, it's interesting to see how religions have influenced cultures and helped to shape our modern world.

Now, I understand, on a purely intellectual level, that people get pretty worked up about this Jesus guy. And, hey, why not, right? He had some very groovy ideas about how to live, though it sure would be nice if most of the people who were so worked up about him actually behaved how he advised.

But that's another topic.

Anyway, the sheer fervor he inspires in some people is something I've never fully grasped.

Until, one day while driving somewhere with Lydia, I was struck as if from a blackhole-powered cannon.

"What if Jesus is their Optimus Prime?"

And it made sense.

I'm not saying I actually worship a robot, even one so far advanced to as to be in disguise. That's stupid. But if Optimus Prime gave me a gun and said, "Brian, I need you to kill a man," I would say, "I've got your back, Prime." There would be no questions, no hesitations, no doubt.

That man would be dead.

And, really, isn't that the power Jesus has over religious types?

This of course is just another shot in the dark. Nobody get too bent out of shape 'kay.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.

But that's because you're waiting around to kill people, not because you trust his judgement over everything else...

I can understand faith in people who show that they're worth it, but supernatural entities without any non-subjective evidence? You might as well tell me to follow the invisible pink unicorn. And I'll never trust a robot. Brian's a damned fool. But even then, as long as people aren't going around killing each other over their ideas and trying to shine a light in peoples eyes if they don't want it, who cares? Granted, my remedy for the types of people who use religion to disguise/justify their intolerance and hate is a knife to the ribs. There's still no reason to start silly name calling. Most of us aren't in 6th grade anymore.

Jordan: In Catholicism, the idea of the Trinity is that whol Father, Son, Holy Ghost thing. They're all sorta-separate parts of the same entity. And lots of stuff was borrowed from religions when the Church was in the region because it's easier to blend your ideas with existing ones than ask people to accept completely different ideas, except under swordpoint.

the triquetra. I just ran a spellcheck on it and got some Charmed pagan site.

It's just like this Alleluia medley song that's popular in contemporary worship around here. Of course the musicians know that it's simply "Needle and the damage done" by Neil Young, with different lyrics. rolleyes.gif

Of course I'm more for toture and slow painful deaths. Since it isn't going to happen right now, I'm not too worried about it.

The rules are difinitely part of it. If they aren't, try to explain how god is a horrible vengeful figure in the OT (turning people into salt towers, lightning people to death, etc...)

As long as I'm going this way, try to explain why in the NT, god suddenly turns into everybody's best friend and starts forgiving people for stuff he would've smitten them for in the OT.

Well the 'Old Testament' incorrectly named for Christian theological reasons, perhaps to validate the 'newer' Christian scriptures as superseding the Hebrew scriptures, yet retaining a connection to the older Hebrew scriptures to try to persuade Jews of the period between A.D. 55 to A.D. 70 to join the movement which later became Christianity. Most Jews were not persuaded, especially the neighbors of Jesus's family. Notable differences between the two religions: Christianity is a creedal religion, and Judaism is not; Christianity declares that there is 'original sin,' and Judaism states that each human has 'yetzer ra' and 'yetzer tov' which are the 'unsocialized impulse' and the 'good impulse'; Christianity, the trinitarians at least, may not arguably be monotheistic, whereas Judaism is hardcore monotheistic; Christianity alone among the major religions claims a deity as founder; Christians, most who cannot read Hebrew, claim to know more about what the Hebrew scriptures say and mean than the Hebrews and Jews do. An example of the latter: "thou shall not kill," as used in most older Christian translations; some newer, more scholarly Christian translations render it as Jews do as "do not murder' or 'you shall not murder."

Wikipedia

As to the validity of the claim of many Christians that they know better than Jews what the Hebrew scriptures mean and say I leave to the advocacy theologians and self-professed 'called.' Many Christians believe that only believers in what they believe will be 'saved.' Jews believe that the righteous of all nations will be saved. You don't have to be a Jew to be saved. Christians changed the weekly holy day to a Roman deity's day to separate themselves from persecuted Jews; they altered some of the Christian scriptures to present the Romans in a better light and therefore win Roman favor.
Learn to read Hebrew; it is easier to learn Hebrew than it is to learn Greek or Latin. Do non-partisan research. Then do as I do: learn, but believe any whimsy you wish to believe. It is your right 'cause the Bible told you so.

By the way, I'm not a fucken hypocrite.
My whole point about hating homosexuals is that you're hate is evil, because you are hating a person not an opinion. I hate christianity and the christians who practice christianity with a capital C.
Nice try buddy, but that's not hypocricy.
By the way, next time you think I'm an idiot for hating Chritianity and liking homosexuals then ask yourself how many people died during the crusades and compare that to how many people died at the hands of boy george.

<MODNESS>You could at least capitalize Christianity in the sentence that mentions doing that. sleep.gif </MODNESS>

Hell, you'd probably be suprised at how many gay friends I actually have. One of the funniest things I have ever heard one of them say was calling his boy friend a faggot like it was an insult. All of us nearly died of laughter (That memory just popped into my head right now).

Just want to step in and clarify. I don't hate gays, They are children of God same as the rest of us. but how they went about getting the gay bishop installed was totally wrong. the Mother Anglican church has my Episcopal church at arm's length, and it's because of this issue.

Rather than voting on whether gay bishops are acceptable, they just propped one up in a diocese with a small and liberal voting block, putting him on the platform. He was elected him in a sweeping (politically correct) lliberal motion that didn't only put the cart before the horse, it shoved the cart handle up the horse's ass (but did the horse mind it or like it? I don't want to know.)

I hope that clarifies my disappointment. A bishop who is praised for a sexual relationship outside of marriage? "Well if you have a problem with that you have to be a queer hater and are damned to hell." That is if the one saying that believes in hell...

Patrick: You're right, that's not hypocracy, it's prejudice, which is just as offensive. I've known some Christians who actually follow the religion and are not hate mongers, don't try to spread The Word, and are damned good people in all respects. They're rare, but they exist, and I'd thank you very kindly to judge not, lest ye be judged.

Despondent: You honestly think that a bunch of liberals voted the guy in just to be politically correct? I know you're moderate/conservative and all, but most liberals are more concerned that the best canidate that represents them (or who will misrepresent them the least, as is mostly the case in the US) get elected, regardless of age/gender/sexual orientation/race/etc. But then again, there are so many stupid double standards in place in society... Can't even accidentally kill a gay Jewish black guy in self defense when he's trying to mug you without it being called a hate crime anymore.

Children: PLAY NICE.

"Despondent: You honestly think that a bunch of liberals voted the guy in just to be politically correct? I know you're moderate/conservative and all, but most liberals are more concerned that the best canidate that represents them?"

I do. Our Alabama Bishop sides with the cause, yet most in our diocese feel differently. My friends feel he did it for self-preservation and jockeying for position, and I'm prone to agree. The proposed bishop came out of New Hampshire, one of the church's smallest dioceses. A small block put him on the platform, and whether or not his practices was acceptable was not an issue. Surely you can see the wrongness of that.

Face it: Rampant homosexuality is to be coddled and praised. Express yourself differently and you're slapped with the title homophobe, bigot or republican. The morality of this country is going to hell in a handbasket good folks, and I hope not to see you there.
