At least six (possibly seven) explosions occured simultaneously in buses and the underground in central London. The place is in fucking chaos. All public transport in central London is closed, the underground is evacuated. They're saying it was "a power surge", which is obviously bullshit and is being debunked by specialists as I type, and Al-Queda has already been fingered as chief suspect.

Two currently confirmed dead with possibly more to come, many casualties.

I suspect the french.

Looks like we're back to the good old 80's again. Hello ID card police state in the near future.

By a curious coincidence, that's what I said. wink.gif

Thankfully, my dad wasn't in London today, nor would he have been anywhere near the blast sites. I'm hoping from the way Blair's talking at the moment that this isn't going to end up with a UK PATRIOT act, but you never know.

I don't think anyone here would have been hit (far as I can tell, I'm the nearest to London, so I'd know if any of our lot were near too), but my condolences to the injured. From what I'm gathering, with only 2-3 confirmed dead so far, it could have been fuckloads worse.

I've got 2 sisters living in London, and I've left my mobile phone at home so I can't get in touch with them.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have reason to be in that area though. Fingers crossed anyway!

Aye, they seem to have been intended more to spread chaos and fear, rather than to just raise the kill total.

A lot of the injuries described sound pretty horrific. Apparently they're still digging people out of the underground.

It's times like this that I'm glad Australia is relatively unimportant on the world politics scale. No inner-country bombings, no PATRIOT acts.

Yet.

rolleyes.gif Now now...

As far as I can tell, yes they're still digging people out. They've removed people in reverse order of seriousness of injuries, assumably so that the worse cases are easier to get to.

I believe seven blasts have been confirmed, and the bus that blew up... you know how a blocked cartoon blunderbuss has all the scraps of metal bending backwards and in strips? Imagine that on a bus.

Some bloke on a website has apparently "admitted" to being behind it, but I reckon its just Al Quaeda hopping in while the PMs away.

And the cellphone networks are apparently in chaos.

Not much more to say, the BBC have already moved onto archive footage. Looks like I'm not sleeping in today, so I'll keep you posted on any big develpoments.

Sorry Rhubs, I agree with Laughlyn, this was not very funny...

My best friend lives in London and commutes every day on the Central Line. I have to call him tonight just to make sure he is ok.

Evening Standard implies the bombing is connected with G8 summit in Scotland. Why bomb London, then?

Half the nations coppers are up here right now instead of walking the beat down south. Easier target I guess. plus there's nothing really worth bombing in Scotland, aside from a few golf courses and the scottish parliment, which no-one really cares about anyway.

sick.gif Just saw the cheshire ministers speech, for those who missed it the short verison is;

Terra! Terra! Terra! Terra!

Taking ques from GWB's scriptwriters evidently.

It's only a matter of time before Blunkett comes round to tattoo an ID number on my forearm.

Laughlym, I guess IDs are inevitable now. Welcome to the rest of Europe. The last stronghold of civil rights and freedom shall now fall.

IDs never stopped anyone from commiting crime. But once you got them, there's no turning back.

On the other hand, there is nothing to bomb over here as well. I suppose we should be grateful as a nation that we are so poor.

You simply blurt out "patriot act" as a codeword for something. Do you know what it entails, or the nuances involved? No internal bombings...yet, but Bali killed some Australians.
