Why can R2 hack into all sorts of computers, jumpstart ships, repair engines, control elevators and doors, but is completely flumoxed when trying to turn off a phone? Is this some sort of social commentary by Lucas, that ordinary things like cell phones have reached a level of complexity...

no it was just another GL slapstick gag.

I don't know how R2 could turn off the phone / communicator thingie. I don't think any of his functions could help him. Of course, if Luc-ass wanted to, he could have given him go-go gadget fingers or something, but he chose to make R2 inept in that scene for the prevailing hilarity

come to think of it why does R2 have a sodding phone. I mean we are only in the 21st century here using chemical rockets and we have wifi for our computers. Does the starwars galaxy know something we don't. Make a mental note to get rid of my wifi laptop and leave my mobile phone next to my pc's it is must be much more efficient communicating that way.

It's a tie-in to the OT - In ANH Han gives C3PO a communicator device.

It was fine by me. The first place in the film I laughed. Regrettably, not the last.

Laugh? Why? Was I supposed to laugh when the bumbling battledroids entered the scene tripping over their own dicks as usual and sounding as if they just took hits from a helium baloon?
Another scene which could have had generated some suspense and fear was blown with cartoon antics...

I think what you should do is create 2 new threads for every complaint you have, that way we'll truely be able to understand how you feel about this film.

I agree that that scene was dumb. Artoo using the comlink was the stupid part in my opinion, less than him trying to hide it. It reminds me of a scene in the R2-D2: Beneath the Dome mocumentary which shows him talking to his agent on his cellphone. That was meant to be funny, and it was due to the nature of the show. But did Lucas really find the joke so great that he had to put it in Revenge of the Sith? It looked silly, and the Super Battle Droids were plain DUMB. I thought the battle droids couldn't get any worse since The Phantom Menace. I was wrong.

However, I did laugh, since it was rather funny, if stupid. It was also the only real joke in the film I laughed at - the other time I laughed was at the Darth Vader "Nooooooooooooo!" sequence, during which the entire audience laughed too.

And you should take a job as a spin doctor for either of the following:

Church of Scientology
NAMBLA
Consenting Cannibals of Germany
George Bush

They need people without moral comunction, or who are very gullible
You fit both requirements

If you're going to flame someone, pick a new unknown that nobody cares about. Like those expendable ship droid bots in TPM.

It was partially my fault. I was in a terrible mood today.
