SoT had its moments, it depends how much you're willing to forgive for the good moments. A bit like Mirror's Edge. I admit it's flawed, but the good times are so good I made it my GotY (as read on http://blog.ftrdev.co.uk SHAMELESS PLUG)

Anyway. Been tempted to get this for my PS3....still don't know if I should or not. Can't see a demo on PSN...

Depends on the replay value. I've beaten ME about 5 times now, and still love it, so in my eyes it was money well spent. The amount of times I go back to the old 2D Sonics too, even though they're very easily beaten in an afternoon.

from what I've seen on Youtube, it looks pretty fun as a stand alone game rather than a part of the series. a bit similar to what people have to say about Silent Hill Home-come-back.

I have the same feeling about Kane and Lynch. Despite having herendous gameplay issues, it still has a bit of color into it. Don't absolutely adore it, but I still like it.

So, I took the plunge and paid £25 for PoP. And I'm loving it. Once again I think Yahtzee was playing a different game to me. My main issue with his review is the combat section. Whilst it's true that you shuffle about slowly (oddly enough when holding down block you move much quicker), it's blatantly false that enemies will just wail on you while you hold down block without giving you a chance to counter-attack. Instead, they will attempt to execute a combo of about 6 or 7 moves long, after which they will move back and attempt to get ready to defend against you. Also, you can deflect their attacks and counter-attack by pressing R2 at the right moment (as it is in just about any game with melee combat).

Also, the button-matching events only come into play if you fail to block the enemies attacks and you get put in a bad position, such as on the ground with the enemy flying down towards you. And you get PLENTY of time to press the button. And it's clear. In fact, aside from being as pervasive as it was in Shenmue, it seems to conform to what Yahtzee WANTED from these in an earlier review (was it Jericho?)

Yes Elika's reluctance to hit enemies more than a foot in front of her is annoying, but she's mainly there to provide backup and add to combos, so when you go to use her, you're already in the thick of it anyway and she has no qualm zapping the buggers. If you're standing back and mashing triangle to get her to do all the work, you're failing to grasp the point of the combat.

Regarding "not being able to die", yes it seems cheap that if you make a false step off a cliff Elika will be-woop you back to safe ground, but seeing as said safe ground is the closest safe platform you've already been on, it's no more cheap than Sands Of Time's time reversal ability, or reloading to a nearby checkpoint Elika can also save you in combat if you fail the button match event, or just generally suck, but doing so gives the enemy time to regenerate health so again it's not a Get Out Of Jail Free card. Although admittedly Yahtzee seems to agree with me on this one, so I guess this last point is aimed at the other people complaining about it.

I beg to differ. I think it was boring, repetitive, the characters were unrelatable, the combat sucked big hairy balls (I don't know what version you were playing but sometimes the bosses literally backed me up against a wall with combos consisting of like 30 uninterruptable strikes), sometimes you HAVE to use magic 'cos they become immune to your boring mundane sword attacks, there's no plot to speak of and there's no character development at all (see the ending). Speaking of bosses, there's no fantasy in having to beat the SAME FUCKING GUY five times. It's just a stupid gameplay-lengthening tactic.
The magic babysitter who pulls your arse out of the shit is indeed a lot cheaper than the time-rewind ability in the Sands of Time trilogy, because you had finite chances to tackle an obstacle which allowed for a sense of danger and urgency, whereas in this new shit you can just Chris Quinn your way through the game without getting any sort of punishment whatsoever. So there's no challenge at all, I almost fell asleep while playing the game (okay, one more fucking fertile ground healed, two zillion-trillion left to go). Even the combat is a source for major annoyance rather than excitement. I don't think this constitutes having fun, which games should be about.

Oh yeah, the Prince's outfit is fucking ridiculous and the scenery is a big kitch. I was half-expecting Hello Kitties to prance about the healed grounds.


TL;DR: Ho yes it is shit, don't delude yourself.

Interesting how my opinions on the PoP series differs a lot from most people's.

I thought "Sands of Time" was an amazing, innovative game - which wasn't a surprise, being developed by Jordan Mechner. The surprise was - I liked the combat.

"Warrior Within" - I agree with most people on this one - is a pathetic attempt to appeal to the macho audience. The prince's character became a ridiculous testosterone-sweating moron, the good soundtrack by Stuart Chatwood was replaced by pseudo-metal tracks and the map system was disastrously bad.

"The Two Thrones" brought some of the "Sands of Time" magic back, while marrying it with the acceptable combat system from "Within", and the result was a good, if flawed, game.

Finally, the newest Prince of Persia tries to innovate like the first one did. I liked it a lot - the platforming was good, the combat is flawed but works (I like to string combos together, even if the system as a whole is clunky), Elika never gets in your way... I had fun with it.

But it's flawed. I like the actor Nolan North (Nathan Drake from "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune"), but, as the prince, he's forced to spit out some ridiculous anachronisms, like "it's not like gravity ever killed anyone". Ancient fucking Persia, Ubisoft, remember?

But I loved the art direction, even if the prince's scarf was a little too much. It's a good game, worth a rent, at least for me -- but most definitely, a good number of people won't like it.

To be honset, it didn't really look like Persia to me. Sure, it all looks colorful, but as someone who was born there and lived there, I can't recall...wait...this is just a game.

Oh well, the game looks nice, but it looks like another item for ubisoft to make enough money to start the forth reich. I'll get it on steam when the price drops. Hope it would come in a large package along with the prequels.

I would like to agree with you on those points. I kinda felt the same. The Prince was a good Joker, but thats what he was pretty much. I would also like to cosider his choice at the end as a killing joke. Thanks for making more room for more sequels, asshole.

Approach the Tree of Life and cut it. You'll earn one more Light Seed and, if you've collected them all, the "Light Seed Master" Achievement.
Take the seed back out to Elika. She'll awake! And, you'll get the "To be continued..." Achievement. The temple crumbles around you, suggesting that the story has only begun.
Congratulations, you've just beaten Prince of Persia.

Pretty much all you can do. And don't give me any poppycock like "Yeah you do have a choice, quit the game before you cut down the trees", because that heats up me platina disc.
