Silly Blizzard, Yahtzee did the "mysterious image slowly becoming less mysterious" method of building anticipation/speculation long before you.

I present exhibit A:

And now exhibit B:

Now I'm willing to call this whole thing a mistake if every Blizzard employee is willing to kiss Yahtzee's ass or perhaps commit seppuku as an act of contrition. Otherwise, I'm still willing to call this whole thing a mistake.

You all can speculate on the upcoming announcement if you want. In fact, you better, because it's tomorrow and then there won't be any more speculation.

Yeah nobody's ever done this before. It was Yahtzee's idea.

And just to be contrary, Blizzard also did the same kind of promo when announcing WoW.

Take my obviously joking post more seriously. No, go ahead, I'll wait.

Still waiting.

Are you done? Good, because I really meant you to take it completely seriously. That part where I told the Blizzard developers to commit seppuku? Meant it. Because it had never occurred to me that somebody would have this idea for promotion, anticipation and speculation before. So I was being serious.

EDIT: In all seriousness, I really made the topic to find out what the Fully Ramblomaticites thought the announcement could be. The Yahtzee thing is there so that I wouldn't get raped for putting it in this forum.

...
Seriously?
I've only played Warcraft 3 (and TFT) and heard the name of the newest WoW expansion and I have a good idea.
Maybe it has something to do with, you know, THE LICH KING. Since the new expansion is called WRATH OF THE LICH KING. It appears the be THE LICH KING showing his face through ice since he's supposedly being set free from his prison. I assume there's going to be some WRATH involved.
I'll probably be made a joke of for stealing Yahtzee's front page idea of repeating certain words in capitals.

Personally, I take the plot they've now inserted to explain WoW as utter utter BS, or more appropriately, out of canon with the other games.
If you need me to explain why, feel free to ask.

Of course, this is Blizzard we are talking about here and they do have a tendency to slam the knife into your temple with the right hand while slowly extending the left in a gesture of obvious friendship. Also note that this announcement is supposed to be something brand new and unannounced. WotLK has already been announced, hence it wouldn't fit that description. Being Blizzard, however, they could just be lying about it to make the obvious more of a surprise.

You have too much time on your hands.
"I felt insulted until I realized that the people trying to mock me were the same intellectual titans who claimed that people would be thrown out of skyscrapers and feudalism would be re-institutionalized if service cartels don't keep getting political favors and regulations are cut down to only a few thousand pages worth, that being able to take a walk in the park is worth driving your nation's economy into the ground, that sexual orientation is a choice that can be changed at a whim, that problems caused by having institutions can be solved by introducing more institutions or strengthening the existing ones that are causing the problems, and many more profound pearls of wisdom. I no longer feel insulted because I now feel grateful for being alive and witnessing such deep conclusions from my fellows."

Josh, you should know by now you can't tell a joke around here without ending it with "LOLZ". And I don't mean to say that people here are dumb, it's just that it's hard to convey emotion with plain text. This is why people invented the emoticon 150 years ago. No really, they did.

Though in fairness, when someone starts a post off with "Silly Blizzard..." and continues with the absurd situation played out in the last bit there, I would hope that you didn't exactly have to walk up to them after they finished reading and say "THAT'S A JOKE" for them to see you weren't being serious.

Still, I think the Blizzard ad is pretty nice. I can't say I give a fuck about the game, but the ad itself is well-done.

You're right, I should have known better. Honestly, though, I didn't think I was even being all that subtle. Next time I'll just post some CAD comic strips along with "LOL IT SUCKS".

EDIT: Oh hey, check it out. It wasn't WRATH OF THE LICH KING. It was Diablo 3. Those eyes in the picture? They were DIABLO. Not the LICH KING.

Good guess though.

My head hurts. I'm not sure if Yahtzee himself would really care if someone ripped-off something like an opening.

If you really didn't want to be taken seriously then you didn't need to post the whole fudging series of pictures.

Okay, so now I need to pretend as though I care about World of Warcraft... hey, there are symbols gradually becoming clearer around the edges of the picture. Any ideas what they mean? I don't play WoW so I couldn't have any possible idea of their significance.

Patch, you made me laugh.

Thanks. I just found that out too and came to see if anyone else knew.

I didn't say I liked you, you can't stop spouting absolute shite most of the time, I just thought I'd make a point of saying when you were actually funny.

Oh wait...

If you're seriously hurt because a faceless, anonymous bloke on the Internet thinks you aren't funny then you have self-confidence issues.
