I think I remember saying something about me never becoming a smoker somewhere on this forum, but you can just forget that because, well, I've been smoking lately.

Now, you non-smokers are probably asking me "Why would you do that, zewb!? Why would you kill yourself with those sticks of death and cancer!"

Well, there's plenty of reasons. First of all, it tastes good. It's also relaxing, and not to mention, it makes me look cool. Also a camel in sunglasses told me to, and hey, why not? All the other kids are doing it. I just want to be popular.

I mean, after seeing this video, there's no reason NOT to smoke!

Now, don't worry, this isn't something completely new to me; I've been smoking cannabis since I was 16, but smoking weed is only an occasional thing for me, not something I can afford to do every morning. I'm already lazy enough, imagine how bad I would be if I was stoned all the time.

Anyway, I've taken up smoking. I don't really smoke that much compared to more experienced smokers; its about an average of 3 or 4 cigarettes a day, usually after a meal, and if I do it in moderation, I'm sure it won't be THAT bad for me. If course, I'll probably wind up smoking 5 packs a day and my lung will look like a failed science experiment, but hey, we're all going to die, might as well speed up the process a little bit. Cheers!

Now you can get into the secret cool person's club. We didn't tell you about it because you weren't cool enough, but now that you're smoking, we think it's okay to let you in. Here's your leather jacket and sunglasses. Potato salad's on the east table.

But there ain't no whales so we tell tall tales

For any other smokers on this forum, what is your favorite cigarette?

My current favorite is Lucky Strike. In the U.S. they are kinda hard to get, but you can order them cheap at CigarettesForLess.com. I also really like Nat Sherman MCDs, but they are a bit on the expensive side.

Pall Mall Soft Taste. Doesn't fuck up my lungs as much, but still tastes OK.

By "rich" you mean "thick and tarry," right? B&H is a poor man's cigarette. You want Pall Malls for that classy way to commit suicide.

I don't smoke however. Who wants mucous buildup, a raspy voice, and leathery skin like Mickey Rourke? Not to mention the waste of money. Even at 4 a day, that's like 5 packs a month. Toss that into a piggy bank and you could buy about 60 decent DVDs at the end of the year.

If you want to look cool, wear nice clothes and drive a sports car. If you have the means, get a boat. Man, chicks dig boats.

Amen, Civ. And for the most part, once you're a smoker, you can only date other smokers. Non-smokers generally don't want to be around/kiss/etc someone who smells/tastes horrible... And I don't think it makes anyone look cool, where did that way of thinking originate, anyway? (Well, advertising... But I'd like to pretend that people didn't blindly conform to that kind of thing) However, I won't like anyone less for smoking, just wouldn't date them. tongue.gif

To my understanding, that's how wearing your pants sagging so your boxers show became cool too. Because of boxer ads.

People don't smoke to look cool. At all. The reason people smoke is because it tastes and feels fucking great, and for those who are completely addicted, it keeps them from going batshit insane. Smoking only makes certain people look cool;

Some people can pull it off. I know I can't. I just do it because it's an enjoyable activity.

In my country there are different views upon smoking. Smokers aren't really ostracized, since they're in majority. You see people, smoking is a great way to measure the tolerance level of someone you're thinking of dating. If they see you smoking and go "UGH I ain't dating him" then it's a safe bet she should be let go, since if they can't tolerate smoking, they sure as hell aren't going to tolerate your other quirks, whereas you're supposed to tolerate theirs (for example I made a solemn vow not to date any chick with more than one cat again). Best if she smokes as well.

I usually get a bit pissed off whenever this subconscious feeling of non-smokers' superiority over the lesser people who occasionally smoke is expressed.

I don't find myself superior. I just don't like the smell, or especially the taste, of smokers. I've tried dating a couple of smokers, but I couldn't handle it. How can you date someone you don't enjoy kissing? I can put up with quirks, but I want to be able to enjoy being in close proximity and being intimate with the person I'm dating. For instance, I wouldn't be able to date someone who didn't shower or brush his teeth regularly, either, for the same reasons. This is the main reason I've seen that nonsmokers don't want to date smokers, not because they are "too good" for smokers. (In my case, though, it probably doesn't help that I'm allergic to certain types of smoke or any smoke when in very large quantities.)

Also, I've tried smoking just to see what the big fuss was about, and I didn't find it to taste good, or feel any better than just breathing in really hot air. Yes, I realize a lot of people smoke for other reasons than looking cool, but a lot of people start smoking because it's the cool thing to do (read: high schoolers especially, also art and theatre majors in college).

Congradulations. Taking up smoking is one of the hardest things you'll ever do.

or was that giving up?

I can't remember.
