Well, at least they showed how Dooku died; with Saruman, you hardly got any closure at all... sad.gif

At risk of going off-topic, they did show how Saruman died at the start of ROTK, but it was edited out because they thought instead of telling the new story they were stuck on the old one. (A mistake Lucas made in ROTS and perhaps the whole PT).

The Extended Edition DVDs of LOTR do show the cut out scenes. Worth watching for 'closure' but IMHO the cinema versions are better: they edit stuff out of films to make them better. In the directors commentary of EE LOTR they tell you 'We cut this scene out because of XXX' Jackson and his two writer/producers also admit (and argue) over the claims they made the movie too long. Compare that to Lucas' silly defensiveness over his SW writing: just plain silly.

Well, how did he die, then? I know they never bothered to shoot the "Scouring of the Shire" sequence, so I'm curious to see how he was done it. blush.gif

Not that you couldn't find the answer elsewhere on the Internet, but anyway: Grima stabs him in the back and he falls from his tower and dies. Legolas then shoots Grima with an arrow. The end.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

Get the Extended DVD. If you read it here, it would ruin the fun! ;-)

So they basically transposed it from the book into the siege of Isengard, then? huh.gif

Would that they could have swapped the ROTK scene of CL's death in place of his ROTS demise. I haven't seen it, but it sounds terrific!

Getting back on topic... FINALLY I thought of some new reasons to add:

(continued from Page 1 of this thread):

#38: "Ah, a Jedi's weapon, much like your father's..."
This was actually an inconsistency in the OT (between ROTJ and ANH/ESB). This doesn't look anything like Anakin's lightsaber, but more like Obi-Wan's. In real life it's because the old prop was stolen, and they used a redressed saber for Luke (with an old "Anakin" hilt redressed to replace the stolen one for Vader).

While this was an old inconsistency, Lucas COULD have taken this opportunity with the Prequels to have Anakin use a saber like Luke's ROTJ one at some point. This would have made sense because the Emperor could have then remembered this hilt style and thus it provoked his jab at Luke, rather than being a contrived and merely rhetorical move as it plays off as now. This is a missed opportunity... now Anakin always used a saber exactly like what Luke would have handed to him in ANH, only shinier. And it's a pity too, because he goes through at least three lightsabers in the PT (and has a brand new one come ANH).

#39 - "Obi-Wan once thought as you did" - Uhh, no he didn't!
When did Obi-Wan refuse to fight Anakin? It sounds like he was bucking for a fight, and he would "do what he must"... when did Obi-Wan try to coax Anakin back to the "good side" of the force? Never! Sure, he cries and laments what happened to the prophecy as Anakin lies there limbless and burning, but that's nowhere near the same thing.

Who "once thought as Luke did" (there's still good in him, come back to me, etc)? It was PADME!

Is Anakin so delusional that he can't remember his own wife and projects her beliefs onto Obi-Wan? This is an inconsistency. At least his "Obi-Wan has taught you well" comment after Luke knocks him down the stairs, while untrue (it was Yoda who taught him further and his own experience) is understandable because Vader couldn't possibly know that (he just assumed Obi-Wan was still helping him or had taught him this, as he believed that in ESB Obi-Wan could "no longer help him").

Lot of good points here, Kurgan; I agree, Vader must be really deluded if he misremembers Obi-Wan as believing in him... wink.gif

I heard the other day that the SW movie prop of Luke's lightsaber was to go up on a future space shuttle. Thanks for the tidbit, KurganX.

Vader talked about how nothing was as powerful as the force. The dark side can cloud those who are the most powerful force users, but I suppose that's like asking if God can make a rock so heavy he can't lift it (one answer would be, if he chooses not to lift it).

Well, I would suppose that's a logical impossibility, wouldn't it? unsure.gif

#40 - Somebody pointed this out on another forum, so I thought I'd use it.

In ESB, we get this:

Obi-Wan: "Patience"
Luke: "And sacrifice Han and Leia?"
Yoda: "If you honor what they fight for, yes."

Wait a sec, doesn't Yoda know that Leia is "the other hope" and Luke's sister, the other child of Anakin Skywalker, with potential in the Force?

Sure, obviously Lucas hadn't made up the plot twists of ROTJ by this time, but it makes even less sense now with the Prequels in mind. What, are Obi-Wan and Yoda BOTH sexist now? Or just senile?

9 - When did Anakin demonstrate that he was "already a great pilot"
> when Obi-Wan "first knew him"? (ROTJ vs. TPM)

Anakin destroyed the control ship while screaming and yelling like a 10 year old. Wait a minute he WAS a 10 year old.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this because quite frankly I haven't read through all these pages, but Yoda mentioning Clone 'War' rather than 'Wars' is probably for the same reason nobody in 1914 would have said 'Well, the First World War began today'. He didn't know that there would be more than one.
