Holy spheres of fecal matter, I almost forgot about this one. I will be in the local Gamestop with some sort of heavy artillery the day this comes out, just in case they sell all of the copies to brainless 7-year-old girls who buy it because it has Japanimation characters on the front.

EDIT: Maybe I should clarify. I refuse to pre-order out of principle. I won't be pressured to buy a game that doesn't exist yet because the store intentionally doesn't get enough copies. I also don't buy used copies of games that they buy for $3 US and turn around and sell for $45.99 instead of $50.

This is a myth.

Third paragraph down.

Ah. Than it is conclusively proven that bowling prevents massacres.

Don't you love popular science? You can make up any rubbish and state it as fact.

I wasn't trying to make that point. I was simply dissolving a notion that had been put forth and sensationalized by the press. Your basic point, that bowling could be just as responsible for massacres as video games still remains. It is, however, a straw man argument since you're oversimplifying your opponent's point of view into a simple analogy and then knocking it down.

Not that I disagree with any of you. Video games by themselves don't cause violence. We do need to come up with better arguments than the tired old rhetoric, though.

If people are playing videogames then they cannot be committing massacres.

But seriously; violent videogames can and probably will desensitize a person towards violence. Same goes for violent movies. So to say that videogames do stop murders is a lie but to say they cause murders is also a lie. The problem lies deep within a society and within the individuals themselves.

Oh, yeah, but then we get into censorship and freedom and so on.

If we are to say that violent games and movies can make people violent, then we are saying that people can't think for themselves, at least in part. Anything that affects the way a person thinks opposes the idea of a person as a sensible, responsible entity, which is one of the msot important parts of our society.

People are generally sheeple minded and will be influenced by games and movies; to what extents depends on the character and integrity of the person. As far as censorship is concerned; there will always be censorship because societies themselves (not laws or government) determines what is acceptable and what is not.

A fair point, and to that I say this:

*ahem*

"Meh."

That is all.

One of the other games I'm looking forward to is the Australian release of Bioshock. Not that I'm a drooling fanboy with an erection, mind. I owned and played through System Shock 2 and enjoyed it thouroughly; and amidst many claims and appraisals that Bioshock is a spiritual successor to System Shock I'm intrigued enough to see for myself whether this praise holds water. Mind, with the level of character customization and sheer psychological horror in System Shock 2 this new title had better offer as Yahtzee so aptly described, "free blowjobs and pudding" because frankly I just can't see another game living up to the high expectations that a sequel, spiritual or otherwise of System Shock would have to deal with.

In random news, got fired from my job without explanation; found out boss was using me as cheap labour until a staff member came back from maternity leave, so exploiting the idiotic IR laws over here, thank you John Howard. I also have a chest infection, which sucks because breaking into a wheezing, hacking cough in the middle of taunting those pesky secret agents might be dramatic but damned if it doesn't start to piss you off after a while.

But yeah. Bioshock FTW.
I'm not pessimistic; I've just realised that the light at the end of the tunnel is an incoming train.

That's a bitch, man, I've been there myself. (Getting fired for no reason, I mean.) Hope you'll be able to get over it soon.

The game I can't wait to get a hold of would be Fallout 3, although it won't be released for more than a year.

Fallout 3 will be interesting, I'll pay for that one.... first one was pretty decent, second one was slightly less so..... but if they do some sort of shitty "prequel" I'm going to go out and kill some fucker.

Another game: the PS3 remake of FF7. It'll probably cost an arm, leg and both testicles to purchase but god damn the eye candy will be worth it. Think about it; PS3 graphics, playing off the Knights of the Round Table summon. That's victory boner material right there.

Halo 3
Starcraft 2
Halo Wars
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid 3
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Pokemon Revolution

I also wanna see a sequel to the tri-achnid game on Newgrounds.

Hmm... all sequels or spinoffs. No one ever seems to REALLY look forward to an entirely new game.

Well, I can see how people would mostly get excited over sequels. They enjoy the predecessor and if the next one to come along gives them even a fraction of the experience they got it would be worth $59.99 + tax (not to mention collector's editions).

Bethesda won't screw up Fallout 3. They've got a winning track record and have stated many times that they plan on being faithful to the franchise and the fans. Maybe I'm something of a blind idealist but there are some game companies that I get excited about whenever I hear of a new project from their office. EA Sports is not one of those companies.

Come to think of it, I haven't ever really been into sports games. I can't convince myself to buy Madden every time it comes out (it's a different game this time, we swear!).

Depends on what kind of computer rig you have, but if it's outdated and you really like console games, then I'd say yes. I would personally prefer to game on my PC, but if you're like me and you have an AGP motherboard with the best graphics card for it and you really aren't wanting to upgrade to a PCI Express with a brand new card then it's worth the relatively small price.

Plus, it's better than getting a PS3 or a Wii, that's for sure.
