Nowadays it's getting harder and harder to really know where "the line" is as far as comedy goes. Our morals and values have grown so convoluted and inconsistent that one thing could be comedy gold for the whole family and just tweaking it a tiny bit could get you killed my an angry mob. That's why I have composed this list of what is and what's not OK to make fun of.
  • Black People: Absolutely off-limits unless you are black. If you are lucky you can pull it off with the "I Have Black Friends" excuse.
  • Asians: Completely OK to make fun of as long as the asian can kick some serious ass, like in Rush Hour.
  • Gays: OK to make fun of as long as you constantly make it clear to the audience that you aren't homophobic, like in Will & Grace.
  • Jews: Only if it's obvious satire of antisemitism, like in Borat.
  • Muslims: Open season. unless 90% of your audience have balaclavas and kalashnikovs.
  • Christians: Only if the audience is composed of leftist college-students with iPods.
  • Hispanics: Off-limits to white people.
  • Cancer patients: Don't even think about it. You'll drown in the hate mail.
  • Helen Keller: Completely off limits unless the audience is deaf and blind, in which case they won't even know.
  • Amish: Go for it; they'll never find out.
  • Texans: Instant crowd pleaser in 49 states.
  • Fat People: Completely acceptable unless 90% of your audience are lesbians/feminists.
  • Retards: If you're a redneck, its OK because you're technically a retard too.
  • 9/11: Unless you run a conveniently located pitchfork & torch emporium, steer clear.
  • Saddam Hussein: Are you kidding? You could get in trouble for NOT making fun of him.
  • George Bush: See Christians.
  • Indians (the Hindu kind): Go for it; the Simpson's paved the way for that.
  • Indians (the casino kind): Unless you can travel back in time to 1841, no-go.
  • Furries: On most of the Internet it's acceptable. On Web 2.0 sites, however, you can expect a flood of whining.
  • Harry Potter Fans: Go for it. In fact, be sure to inform them of all the characters who die in the seventh book.
If you know any more feel free to add to the list.

# Furries: On most of the Internet it's acceptable. On Web 2.0 sites, however, you can expect a flood of whining.=

As a matter of fact, we whine where ever we're made fun of. We only mention it on Web 2.0 sites. Remember, the furries our EVERYWHERE. Say one word against us and you get blogged about forever.

In fact, we make up funny words for making fun of furries in the hopes that it'll become some sort of social stigma because we all thin it's this huge social movement. I mean, for God's sakes, it's ANIMALS! I can't stand it! "Oh, NO! How DARE you make fun of my lifestyle choices?"
Well, I tell you what, if you weren't wearing ears and a tail to work you MIGHT not get made fun of as much. It's not a LIFESTYLE choice. And if it is, honestly, you're just being creepy.

And don't give me that "Vocal Minority" thing, either. Because if almost everyone is part of the "Vocal Minority" then, unless I was asleep for that math lesson, it's a MAJORITY. Don't say you're in the silent majority. If you're so major, say something. Honestly, you have no CLUE how many furries have insisted it's a Vocal Minority and then add "I like yiff, but I'm in the minority."

Riiii-iiight. Look, stereotypes are there for a reason. Asians are called smart because their culture is more educationally oriented. Black people are called good basketball players because the majority of the NBA is black. And furries are called perverted whiners because of sites like FChan and how we all whine about "Fursecution" as if it's akin to the holocaust.

Now, look, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying go punch a furry for no good reason. As I've mentioned, I happen to be a furry, and I'm not the sort of guy who likes being punched in the face. I'm just saying that if they're anything like most furries I know, they'll give you a good reason. Actually, some of the furry hating people are almost as bad as the furries themselves. I actually have a post I found once saved.

A-hem. "If I could go back in time and either stop the Nazi party from gaining power in Germany or stop the furry fandom then I'd chose the furries hands down."

Right. Because the way they kinda squick you out with their drawings of fifty foot rabbit chicks with penises (Something I've seen, and honestly wish I hadn't) is a WAY greater social injustice than how millions of people were killed painfully. Honestly, we're REALLY mostly harmless. Sure, we have a few... Okay, a lot... Okay, an enormous amount... of really squicky-outy pictures of anthropomorphic animals, but we're not HURTING anyone with them. And they're a lot better than some pictures I've seen. In fact, there is one furry artist whose name escapes

In short, furries, stop whining, you're only being persecuted, oh, I mean "FURsecuted" because you're being such little bitches about it. And furry haters, grow a set of balls and stop being so upset about the pictures.

"Oh, but Otal," you say, "Otal, they draw the worst things that I've ever SEEN."

Well, tell you what, that problem is easily solved. I'll send you a link to Goatse, Tub Girl, and Hai2u. There. Now they're not drawing the worst things you've ever seen and you can stop it on that score.

In short, my attitude towards this is Brighid's attitude towards politics. "Shut up. You're both idiots."

Good God, I've been wanting to say that for a while. I now confidently await my hate mail, secure in the knowledge that I've managed to piss of everyone either on the basis that they are or aren't a furry.

Otal: I'm glad you can take your furriness unseriously. I think the whole thing is rather silly. People openly admit to some really weird stuff (culturally speaking), and prance around wearing animal costumes while advertising that that's what gets them off, and then complain when they get made fun of. And then there are the people who have convinced themselves that they're really animals in human bodies, and wow, it's a big mess. I once read this hilarious furry speech mantra defending his/herself, except someone had replaced all of the animal references with those of some type of car. It was pretty amazing.

BACK ON TOPIC:

Yeah, I agree, Zewb. The bizarre amalagam of PC police and what people are allowed to not show the utmost respect for is growing more and more retarded. Personally, I think just about everything should be able to be looked at with some bit of humor. I think there should be lines (like, say, mocking recent disasters and deaths) because some people and situations deserve a bit more respect due to their gravity, but overall, EVERYBODY needs to chill.

I don't have a problem with people making fun of my character traits, and it's stupid that anyone takes themselves so seriously that they can't handle a ribbing occasionally.

Yeah, but the only time I really feel bad is when someone (I'm looking at you, Carlos Mencia) attempts to make fun of mentally handicapped people. It's not their fault... sad.gif

You know, I haven't watched his show in a long while, but I'm pretty sure I remember him saying that he wasn't making fun of people who were born mentally handicapped, but people who became retarded. You know, those idiotic ass-holes that we're always surrounded by, but always have to put up with.

Thinking about it...wow, as far as racially oriented jokes go, white people can't get away with anything at all unless we're making fun of other white people, can we?

Or the French. From everything I've ever heard at any point, France is always fair game. tongue.gif Or the southern United States. (However, as a southerner, I have to say there is a point where we will say, "Ok, dude, just shut up. NOW. Or I swear to god I will hog-tie you, throw you in the back of my rusty pickup truck, and I will take you to meet those guys from Deliverance.")

But honestly...as an example of how deep this goes, does anyone else feel physically incapable of saying the "N" word, or any other racial slur for that matter, without feeling an overwhelming sense of shame (and maybe even fear) after saying it? Or even thinking it?

Then you're too easily offended. I'll give it to you that Mencia is not, in any way, shape or form funny, but that doesn't mean that certain parties should be excluded from ridicule just because of things beyond their control.
By your logic it's completely wrong to make fun of anyone for anything that is not within their personal control. That's being too uptight about things.

Like I said, people just need to stop taking life so seriously.

We're only here for a short time. I don't have the patience to tiptoe around who I'm going to joke about. If everyone felt that way, we would have never had the wonderous glory that is the Dice Man.
