Ah, yes, I remember that level. Those baddies are annoying. And yes, I thought the same thing when I saw them...
"Once upon a time, musta been 'round October, few years back, in one o' dose TOP SECRET LAB-MOTORIES de gubbnint keep stashed away underneath Virginia, an EVIL PRINCE, occasion'ly employed as a part-time THEATRICAL CRITICIZER set to woikin' on a plot fo de systematic GENOCIDICAL REMOVE'LANCE of all unwanted highly-rhythmic individj'lls an' sissy-boys!" Well, I was playing Blood 2 the other day, and on one of the later levels I encountered an enemy that held a striking resemblance to The Tall Man. It didn't help the fact that the level in question was an abandoned hotel... with sickly yellowed walls, etc. I sat there thinking "Wow, this is what a TN FPS would look like!"

Weird coincidence to say the least.

So, you think Yahtzee has ripped off some game/movie?
Take your ticket and wait for your turn.

But yeah, the monster in question looks like the Tall Man. You know,

white mask + coat + weird melee weapon = Tall Man

Hey Rorschach! How's it going? Say, did you know you're one Yahtzee's favorite fictional characters?

The Question! Haven't seen you in ages, buddy.

I think it's safe to say that the Tall Man is probably derived from a few sources - and some of Yahtzee's favorite things. We all tend to do that when creating characters of our own: we'll attach things that make them aesthetically pleasing for us.

Yahtzee has a thing for masks - and dapper hats. I, personally, love glasses on characters (Gordon Freeman, Egon Spengler) and I really love Victorian fashions. I tend to mix both quite a bit.

I didn't take offense to your comment, but I did feel the need to tell you how puzzled I am: How you managed to pull an accusation out of my neutral post. Of course there's gonna be similarities between anything and everything you find, if you look hard enough.

That's good, because I didn't intend to offend you. In fact, I think you did well by noticing the resemblance. Now here's something to puzzle you: how did you manage to pull an accusation out of my absolutely neutral post? Because I've asked a question, you technically can't say I've accused you of anything. cool.gif

Ok, I did it, I admit, but next time I'll sue you.

That might be true, because (almost) everybody in this forum has already found "similarities" between the XDAS series and something else. Here's a small list of these "similarities":

* Trilby <- Thomas Crown
* 7DAS <- Alien, Halloween, The Ring
* The Welder <- Jason from Friday the 13th
* Trilby's Notes <- Silent Hill
* The "Tall Man" name <- Phantasmagoria

I haven't *twists hair around finger and giggles*

Though I will say that ep 1 of 1213 is a lot like the Resident Evil movie.

Oh, and the Tall Man is seriously cool.

Well, now that we're looking for tenuous connections... Pious Augustus from Eternal Darkness has some things in common with the Tall Man. Obviously not in terms of appearance. But they're both originally decent guys from about the same era who mess with powers they don't understand and end up working as a Lovecraftian monster god's right-hand lich in the world where all the normal people live.

Yahtzee once said the random visions in Notes were inspired by Eternal Darkness, so the same might apply to Tall Man, to some extent anyway. The characters are very different in other ways.

It's very commmon that an arrogant man summons some very powerful creature, and that man is gone be the creature's slave.

For example: The case of Bishop Mandible and Chaos from Loom. (Good game, play it! smile.gif )

Ooh...that bit in TN with the blinds in the dark room...a lot like that bit in that thing where the policewoman is looking round a dark room, and a car goes past after a bit, and in the headlights you can see a guy hiding in the dark with a silenced pistol for like 2 seconds.

Y'know, "sorry, I misunderstood" works just as well.

Where's the fun in finding out what I was rambling on about, if I made it easy?

Oh, some tele-drama, with that woman from Silent Witness in it, I think.
