1.metal gear solid (ps one)
2.super mario bros 3
3.contra 3-alien wars
4.grand theft auto-san andreas
5.castlevania IV
6.zelda-ocarina of time
7.final fantasy VII
8.final fantasy VIII
9.mortal kombat 3
10. smash tv
11.golden axe
12.double dragon
13.ridge racer V
14.manhunt
15.donkey kong country
16.knights of the old republic
17. shenmue
18. splinter cell
19.splatterhouse
20. sonic

come to think of it,..i think the 16-bit era was awesome....it is when gaming was fun...no built in cinemas,..no load times,..no confusing, drawn out plots,....just addictive pick-up-the-controller-and-play fun.

genesis had a ton of fun games....

toe jam and earl
comix zone
vectorman
shinobi

one of the best games for the genesis was this shinobi game,,where shinobi had a white dog he could sick on his opponents....i think it was called shadow dancer

Comix Zone was great! Such style and delivery. If only it wasn't so damned hard... I also disagree that FF8 was that great. I found most of the characters detestible, especially teen-angst poster-child Squall. tongue.gif FFVI kicks VIII's butt, methinks. But to each his own.

Have you played the MGS1 remake for the GameCube?

Remake? More like a port. I was so dissapointed with that.

Port my eye! They revamped the controls, the voice acting, the cut scenes, the graphics, and the gameplay. My only complaint is that it's short once you know what you're doing and can actually do it.

Well, I had read that the title 'The Two Snakes' refered to them putting both MGS and MGS2 in the one case, seeing as MGS2 was never released on the Cube. Man was I pissed off to find that I just paid $80 for a game that I had years ago. Sure, it was a good game. But I still haven't played the sequal.

It's supposed to read "The Twin Snakes", meaning Solid & Liquid. Why on earth was it 80$ over there? Sheesh! I think I picked it up for about 20-30$ here, new, after a little bit of price depreciation.

Because all Cube games are $80-$100. Even a port of Resident Evil 2/3 from the PSX version will cost you $80 (I'm assuming you're buying new, not pre owned).

No I havent played it. I heard its supposed to be pretty cool. Im for anything Metal Gear. MGS4 looks like its gonna kick ass. Hideo Kojima rocks my world. Im not a fanboy at all, I love all consoles respectively for their unique attributes. Personally I only own a PS2, as far as current market consoles go...there's just so many games being made, so many systems, so many choices,..that I tend to just buy one system and the games I like,.then wait a couple of years to get the other systems and games I want for it when the prices come down. Right now, Im searching for a used XBOX,..but Ive been told my many that an XBOX 360 is the better investment, namely due to its increased processing power and backwards compatibility.

There I diasagree. GTA 3 is the best in the series. It's got so much. A cool plot, the radio stations, car stunts, boats, so much. Vice City I never played much but I didn't like your character having a name and personality, not sure why. I also remember it treating high speeds like crap. I don't know if any of that's been fixed in San Andraes, but I'm thinking of getting it once it comes out on PC.
And yes, I have the ROM for Rampage Edition. Is that the one that's like the original or is the Contra type one?

Im right there with you bro,..GTA3 is an awesome game,..and ever since Vice City and San Andreas has came out,.its almost but been forgotten. Dont get me wrong, I love them all,.(and own them all,.hee hee) ..but I feel theres a fine line to be crossed when it comes down to games,..that fine line is being on some games being just a tad bit too realistic...such as CJ needing to scarf down a bucket of chicken, some tacos, a slice of pizza, or a greasy burger every 5 to 10 minutes.....blah....stick to the game play,...Let ME eat, when "I" get hungry,..not my game character. A game such as San Andreas is so in depth and has so much gameplay already enveloped into it,..making your character have to eat, work out, get fat, etc, etc,.is just to much,...leave all that to games like the SIMs.

A great video game,..regardless of its graphics and/or how technically advanced it is,..all falls under the same principle,.which is,..if a game is really good,.its easy to get into,..has basic gameplay,.and a learning curve...to where the player can learn to do new manuevers (skills) as the game play increases..the game is addictive from the get-go,.and gets the player involved to the point that they feel they are a central part of the action,..they are what keeps the game play flowing,..not meerly an observer of it. ...well,.thats my view on it all...to each their own.

I always thought this topic was about oldies, but then I saw San Andreas, it's going to be a classic but it isn't old. Oldies should be before 1999.

what exactly determines that oldies should be before 1999?. Are you simply referencing the last year in the previous millenium, or is there some other standard that you are basing this off of.

Personally, I would deem an "oldie", as being any game for a console thats no longer mass-produced.
This means that any title for PS2, XBOX360 , Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, GameBoy Advance, or PSP would NOT be considered as Oldies, being that the game the console is made for is still being produced.

So to clarify this,..even the PS2 launch titles like Fantavision and Smuggler's Run are not considered as oldies yet, as PS2s are still being made by Sony. But once Sony stops making PS2s and retires them and starts making PS3s instead,.then all PS2 games,..all 10,000 (or however many of them) would then become oldies., as the ps3 has now superceded the ps2.

So basically, all games made for all other console based systems are deemed oldies by me, with the exception of the consoles aforementioned.

i realize i cant imply this same logic towards pc-based games, so i stay astray from trying to categorize them in the same fashion, since most modern PCs can be upgraded.

It's really a matter of personal reference. I'd say oldie would be SNES/megadrive generation, whereas vintage would be NES/Master System or before. But that's influenced by when I grew up. EwokHunter is considerably younger, so he believes 1999 is old, due to when he started gaming.
