Recently hot weather has stopped me functioning normally. I am unsure about how much electricity air conditioners use up but I am seriously considering of saving up for a good quality one.

So I have an idea and that is to full the freezer full of water containers. After they are frozen I'll put the ice into a bath of cold water with the fan infront of the door to cool my room.

The brightness gets through the window so I might have to put something round it.

Do you think this might work for a short while?

It is a large room with a small bathroom inside. I mean the barthroom as a partition.

By where you do it I meant whether you do it in the Sahara desert or the Antarctica, or anywhere in-between, you see, the climate does have a factor in this procedure. I couldn't scrape together any information of your whereabouts by reading your profile, hence, I asked where you intend to go through this.

I'm sure that EVERYONE WHO MATTERS on this forum knows where you live at, but I'm not one of them, sorry. wink.gif

I'll only say half way up the north of the equator. It is mild and rainy most of the year but it is so hot in the Summer. It has been over 30 degrees today and the bucket of water still needs a lot of time to freeze in the freezer. I am hoping to have a cold bath with that.

I was thinking of buying an old freezer and practically using that to cool the room down with a fan in front.

A- HA! So you live somewhere about halway between the equator and the north pole which uses the metric system!

Wait, that doesn't actually help that much.

And somewhere that measures temperature with Celsius instead of Fahrenheit...

I'd recommend getting big, black curtains to cover the windows. The darker they are, the more light they will absorb. And as someone who's lived in the South her entire life, I can say that during the summer months you can have no greater friend than a fully functioning air conditioning system. It will be well worth the investment in the long run.

Might not even be there, I am just interested to see people's ideas on free cooling. They seem to prefer fahrenheit the most.

I thought of going swimming but what is stopping me:

(1) Possibly getting into a pool full of chemically santized urine that makes my hair itch.

(2) The local pool I last went around ten years ago threw me out. I kept on complaining to the lifeguard about a girl in a group who kept on throwing a ball in my face which kept on hurting. He saw it, kept on laughing and told me to take it easy. It landed on my face once again and I threw the ball back at them and it landed on her face.

She ran out screaming and hitting her head at the lifegaurd. I got out and we had a quarrel, everyone started too look at me discrimatingly whilst arguing. Whilst that girl kept on crying and hitting herself for pitty.

The life guard kept on pushing me into the changing rooms and told me to get changed.

I said "I'll complain about this."
He said "You are lucky they are not calling the police."
"She kept on throwing the ball in my face, I promptly went up to her and politely asked her to stop as it hurt and as it says on the rules. You even saw it, so why didn't you warn here and send her out in the first place?"

"We are not talking about her, we are talking about YOU! She is only a girl."

"For someone that is reasonable tall, can speak, can throw a ball at people's faces she should take responsibility for her own actions in the pool like everybody else so why should she be any different?"
"Come on get changed!"
"In front of you?"
"Yes."
"No way, what are you a pervert, wouldn't you do the same to that little brat?"
"I'll make a note of that." - Now realizing that he means to report me.
"Ah so you are admitting it? So you get a pleasure from seeing people get changed?"
I just put my trousers on above my swimming gear to walk home.
The receptionist was utterly rude and threatened to use the life guard to throw me out as I attempted to use their pay phone.

When I complained nobody was interested to take accounts on what happened.

I'm pretty sure that just using an old freezer would be more expensive (use more energy) than just getting a window cooling unit. The Ice may work, it just depends on the air circulation in your room.

I was thinking of putting large amounts of water inside the fridge to freeze first for a little boost. That is something for me to try as it does not appear to use up much. Only for a couple of weeks I need it.

I still think that your best bet will be to get a window unit, or use the water in the tub. The problem with leaving your freezer door open is that it will try to cool the entire area to whatever temperature the freezer is set to, and you'll wind up blowing out your freezer and paying more for electricity.

Yes, well I would be managing the door but I knew that was not efficient for long term usage. It did work effectively a couple of times on an empty freezer but that was for a short time.

The bucket is starting to form ice at the top. I put the freezer on boost so I hope I'll have a part of the day when it will be cold here.

Someone called me tricky because of my methods of approach even though most were effective.

I could build a little wooden tall unit with a large sink bowl at the bottom and twelve volt fans blowing down on ice with a large fan ontop. I feel this would be a waste of time as my work mainly gets half done before.
