That sounds more like you thought Dooku was a plain idiot, not a very cunning and charismatic leader.

no... just a gentleman.

I don't pretend to understand the vast background of Darth exTyraneous, do kOO?

But I do like Barend's notion of the gentleman thief. Or a palatable rogue.
He's Han's dad, actually, but nobody talks about that. All he really wanted to be was the StarWars James Bond/Vincent Price.

Wait, that was Lee. Damn, he's a good actor.

I don't think Barends answer is correct. From what I gathered from the movie (other than mental pain) was that Dooku wasn't aware of much of Palpatines plans. Remember, he was surprised that the Jedi had a droid army.

"That doesn't seem possible. How did the Jedi come up with an army so quickly?"

My answer: Escaping was his primary goal at that point. If he would have wasted time then perhaps more Jedi's or clonetroopers would have gotten there.

If he had tried to kill off Yoda, Yoda would have let Anakin and Obi-Wan die and would defend himself instead. Staying and fighting would have left Yoda no choice but to sacrifice Anakin and Obi-Wan.

It's a typical scene, when the bad guy needs to escape he has to let the good guy the chance to save someone.

Thank you, Barend. The PT in a nutshell.

It is hard to tell exactly what Dooku was up to - a very BAD rap! sick.gif - Rogue Jedi, that sounds like a distinct possibility. AND somehow or another, he was also Darth Tyrranus, which makes him sound like an inhabitant of Jurassic Park gone over to the dark side. huh.gif

Okay, he was tired of the crap with the Jedi Council. Considering what a pack of hidebound morons they were, that is not hard to accept. So he resigns as a Jedi, turning in his secret decoder ring, and takes off. Does he actually turn to the dark side and become a Sith, or was he just waiting in the wings for Darth Maul to bite the big one, and then sidelined again when Palpy settled on turning Anakin? wacko.gif The whole "Only two Sith, one master one apprentice" concept seems a little stretched here. Did he have to take employment with a temp agency, and the only opening was for Sith Apprentice? wink.gif

So how much WAS he in the loop? It seemed to surprise him when Palps told Anakin to kill him. He did warn Obi Wan that a Sith was in control - not in charge, which would immediately have pointed to Palpatine - of the Senate. He did, however, seem to have some chivalry left from his Jedi days. So was that chivalry a deeply held belief that made him incompatible as a Sith, or was it simply ingrained behavior? Yet, he referred to Sidious as "My Master" and was also the custodian (sound familiar?) of the Death Star plans.

Any more "on the other hands" with this character, and it is going to resemble an octopus orgy.

It is one thing to have a character with his own agenda, playing both sides for his/her own advantage. It is quite another to obviously have one go good or bad according to some random system. Maybe GL was playing an RPG and kept blowing some critical die roll? "Okay, George, you're cursed. That means you have to make random alignment checks on your character every round BEFORE you attack."

IMO, I think the only things Dooku was out of the loop on as far as Sidious's intentions were his plans with Anakin. From my understanding Sidious (as Palpatine) was directly involved with the secret creation of the clone army behind the Jedi's back. Dooku left the Jedi after Qui-Gonn Jin was killed and subsiquently seduced to the dark side by Sidious, I'm guessing he probably played him in the same way that he eventially played Anakin into joining. That is to say that Dooku was pissed at the Jedi and felt they were corrupt, Sidious probably convinced him that the Sith would end that corruption.

Supposedly after converting Dooku, Palpatine secretly (secret from the Jedi) dispatched Jedi Master Sifur Diaz to Kamino to order the creation of the clone army. Before Diaz could inform return and inform the Jedi, Sidious ordered Dooku to kill Diaz to protect that secret.

NOW, here's Dooku's side of things AOTC... Dooku once capturing Obi-Wan told him the truth of things in an attempt to get him to join Dooku and eventially turn him to the Dark Side. I would assume that Dooku would like Obi-Wan as his apprentice as Obi-Wan was trained by Dooku's apprentice Qui-Gonn. In the case when Dooku commented, "That doesn't seem possible. How did the Jedi come up with an army so quickly?" I think Dooku was simply playing the seperatists and keeping the secret of the Sith's ultimate plan for the empire.

What the difference is in AOTC concerning the current Sith lords is who they wanted as their own apprentices. Sidious obviously made Dooku a placeholder for Anakin which could be seen when Palpatine demands Anakin kill Dooku immediately in ROTS. If Obi-Wan would have joined Dooku in AOTC I would assume that they would kill Sidious together and then take the Repulic using Seperatist forces. Since Obi-Wan didn't join, Dooku just went along with Sidious's original plans for the Empire unbenounced to his plans for Anakin.

Thats my long rant of a view on the situation...

Great. Now I can see Dooku CGI'd into the new superset.

It's like when I improvise on the keyboard. It sounds way off because I don't know what I'm doing, granted. I can bullshit for days as to why I was changing keys with every note; but it still sounds bad. smile.gif
