work, traveling, transit strikes, jury duty and a number of terrible computer problems. Now I am officially back and ready rock the internet in a major way. I'm back full force which means up to 10 poorly thought out updates a year for your ready pleasure!
For starters, I thought I'd post the list of awesome Christmas presents I got which should have been posted ages ago.
In My Stocking:
A date to the Natural History Museum
Finally, a signed contract that binds Jen to take me to the Natural History Museum. Hopefully they still have the IMAX movie about vikings!
Udderly sMOOth udder cream
Apparently I have some sort of problem with chapped udders.
St. Ives Whipped silk cream
For when my udder cream runs out.
Tupelo Honey
The actual honey, not the Van Morrison album.
Creamy Butternut Squash Soup
Shamefully I didn't eat the soup Jen gave me last year so it expired and I had to throw it away. I feel an enormous amount of pressure to not repeat that blunder this year.
After Eight Mints
Because peppermint patties just aren't designed for the evening time.
Maple Sugar Candies
The best candy in the world which is unfortunately more expensive than most previous metals.
ReeseSticks
The second best candy in the world which is very fortunately pretty cheap.
Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
The finest vanilla extract on the planet comes all the way from Madagascar for some reason. They like to call it "bourbon," boldly ignoring the fact that you cannot call something bourbon if it's made outside of Kentucky. C'mon, guys, everyone knows that!
Vacuum wine stoppers
To keep my wine fresh after opening. Note to everyone: This does not work with champagne. Learn from my failure.
Under the Tree
Badass Canada Hoodie
Jen's family decided to help me celebrate my Canadian heritage with this awesome, giant hoodie with a maple leaf on it.
Winter Gloves
The best part of these gloves is that they glow in the dark as if by some unholy magic.
Boxer shorts
You know, to cover my butt.
Batman the Movie
The awesome one with Adam West and Burt Ward, not the lame one with Michael Keaton, Bruce Willis or whoever is playing Batman now.
SeaQuest DSV Season One DVD Set
Finally I can enjoy the first 23 episodes of SeaQuest DSV's first season without ever having to subject myself with that travesty known as season two. Note to SeaQuest rights holder(s): Don't bother releasing season two... it sucked. Note to SeaQuest writers and producers: thank you for summarily changing elements of SeaQuest until you removed all joy it ever gave anyone. Seriously, it was a great move. Thank you for destroying something for no reason.
Gratuities for Exceptional Service Mug
It was pilfered for me by a friend that works at Dunkin' Donuts. It's a wonderful coffee mug that doubles as a resource for me to rake in a little extra cash. Feel free to stop by and drop in some silver.
Saturday Night Live the Best of Will Ferrell Vol. 2 DVD
Last year I got Vol. 1. It's a fun way to spend 40 minutes but you can't help but wonder A.) why they left out some of the best skits and B.) why they can't fit twice as much material on the DVD.
The Wiz DVD
For some reason I remember watching this with my dad when I was younger. I think I was too young because it is a really surreal memory. I remember being very confused as to why Michael Jackson was in The Wizard of Oz. And I think they had to take the subway or something. I will have to follow up after seeing it again.
A Mighty Wind DVD
A movie that I should have purchased the second it came out but I was probably too wound up in being poor.
Space Adventures (Rocky Jones Space Ranger and Flash Gordon) DVD
Can you get a more awesome DVD for $0.99?
Superman Cartoon DVD
Apparently you can.
Office Space Special Edition with Flair DVD
At long last, after previewing this movie 40 or 50 times I own a copy. And it has special features!
Salt by Mark Kurlansky
A book about the history of salt and how it shaped the course of entire civilizations!
Giant Salt Grinder
So that I can shape entire civilizations.
Black Sheep - A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing CD
This is the start of reconstructing my late 80's to early 90's hip hop collection. I sold most of it stupidly a few years ago and now I am filled with nothing but regret. Regret and $2.00 per CD.
Soce the Elemental Wizard CD
At long last I have the CD by everyone's favorite RPG-loving rapper.
Star Wars Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry
After stupidly purchasing the young adult version I finally have the real book. Now I can be prepared to marvel at the genius of Dash Rendar.
On Food and Cooking the Science and Lore of the Kitchen by Harold McGee
How else would you be able to read 10 pages about amino acids?
Home Movies Season Three DVD Set
Completing my "Home Movies" collection until May when Season 4 comes out. DVD. DVD!
Star Wars Splinter of the Mind's Eye by Alan Dean Foster
At long last I have this book... again. I had it long ago and read it when it was the only Star Wars book that was not a movie novelization. It's about some weird crystal that makes you invincible. What could be better than that?
The Beatles Diary Volume 1: The Beatles Years
The first part of the 30 year chronicle tells of the Fab Four's early journey from Liverpool to London. It'll be interesting to hear about the band's early years without having to hear it as told by Paul McCartney as he drives a tug boat.
John by Cynthia Lennon
Given the author it will be interesting to see how many times the word "dickhead" is used.
The Ultimate History of Video Games by Steven L. Kent
This is it... the ULTIMATE! For those of us that like to read about how Miyamoto is a genius for inventing Donkey Kong, this is a must read.
Oxo Good Grips Salad Spinner
At last a salad spinner that is not cracked, moldy and falling apart. Now I will almost not hate the prospect of spinning some lettuce. Almost!
Pyrex Mixing Bowl Set
Increasing the amount of bowls I own by 400%. In the unlikely event that I am cooking something that requires two things to be mixed I'll be ready.
300GB Hard Drive
Now I can record and store all the episodes of The Bridge on my computer so I can watch the video of "The Vapours" any time I want.
Creative Inspire T3000 3-Piece Powered Speaker System
At long last the music from my computer stays at the volume that I choose. These speaker are amazing and have instantly improved my quality of life by about 600%.
That's it for now. I'll touch base again later. Please excuse any typos... I'm entering this on the road and can't pay attention to such things. Normally I'm super diligent about making sure every sentence is perfect and is not a run on sentence and that it's perfect and the the sentence makes perfect scense but for now this will have tuo do until i get back home.
